Notes on Markup

Text divisions, paragraphs and sentence boundaries have been marked.

Due to lack of time and technical problems we have not used the TEI-defined 
DTD for drama for component A (4 plays by Ibsen). Instead, we have used
our own modifications to the standard TEI DTD to cope with dramatic texts.

A <castList> gives the characters in the play, each of whom gets a
<castItem> giving the name of the part <role> and a description of the
role in a <roleDesc>.  Stage directions are marked with a <stage>
element, which can have a 'type' attribute with possible values:

	movement    - describes the movements of characters
	description - describes the setting of the play or an act.
	business    - other notes about characters behaviour/thoughts

Speeches by characters are marked with <speech> with a 'sp' attribute
saying who is speaking. Within a <speech> there may be a one or more
<spokento> elements. Each of these is speech addressed by the speaker
to a different listener. The person addressed is given by the 'li'
attribute of the <spokento> element.

In the file nor01d11.eci a part of the text was written in the
form of a two-column list of items. This has been coded as a <multi.column>
element consisting a number of <mcp> ('multi-column paragraph') elements.
Each <mcp> contains two <column> elements containing the text of one column.
As above changes to the DTD were made to define these non-standard elements.

Details of the changes in the DTD are in the file nor01.ent.
