they were good they were good yeah um tut exam dates we've got all those third form exams that's coming up on the thing anyway um school c programme we're supposed to look through each maths teacher's school c programme <{><[>word <[>what does that mean oh no more room? no <{><[>no word <[><.>th that threw me out of stride too when i didn't have to <{><[>type mine <&>6:00 <[>so we haven't got forms yeah you did you <.>well yeah i'm supposed to be word just have a look lucy for mistakes um so if i get it in by <.>th <.>ch thursday and um helen has got the other one and that's all <.>i in hand um the b n z maths competition i started to organise that the other day and i thought i'd read my staff manual and when i got to the when i came to that <.>page when i came to page three it says b n z senior maths competition senior staff member in charge l n oh <{><[>god does it <[>and assistant so at that stage i'll just hand this over to lucy oh god laughter clapping one more thing to go <{><[>down the tubes <[>you never know <.>what no i'll tell you <.>what what i'll suggest is that you <{1><[1>give it to me tomorrow read it through <.>and and because i think we <.>only it's probably half a dozen kids at the most <{2><[2>a side <[1>i'll read it tonight <[2>oh that's a good one to pick wasn't it laughs yeah and there's <.>no you don't have to collect money oh that's even better <{><[>yes it's it's in the <,> hand there <[>my own clears throat um <,> formula for senior exams i'll pass this around if you can have <.>a if you want to have a look bob oh i see pass this through <{><[>to word word teachers but we'll get those run off for this <.>co this coming exam we'll get a set run off <[>yeah <&>7:00 yeah yeah i've actually seen <{><[>this <[>hey i didn't get one of those somewhere else um that's just for bursary that is um now the national <.>certificate are you all quite aware of this um national certificate achievement based um sort of yeah <{><[>not completely <[>no yeah well <.>i i'm not brilliantly aware of it either but i think it's <.>gon it's gonna be all the same english maths science but the others are <.>you you're aware of it word achievement based things one to four scale the kids get graded on <,,> what level all levels yeah oh the sixth seventh form <{><[>yeah but i've just written away to the guy to get get um thing i'll pass <.>this i'll pass this one around too that came i can't really understand this thing for about it's about length of units but i'll pass it round for everyone to have a look at and er <,,> yeah this <&>8:00 is it here achievement based assessment criteria it says achievement based <.>criter assessment criteria has now been developed in drama maths and music and will be available to schools from the beginning of term two full list of sixth form certificate subjects for which sets of criteria may be obtained is as follows so ALL of them have got the same criteria it's the same as english i think and they <.>k <.>they kids can get graded on one to four don't they they have to fit into a one to four <.>or i think it's a one to four scale but i've sent away for it <[>oh okay YES and they all end up with <.>s i'm not sure <{1><[1>how it works for each word but it's all coming into <{2><[2>line there anyway <[1>threes <[2>yeah it's too small a grant um <,,> where are we the draft <.>curriculum word i <.>won't the course was reasonably good as <.>a <.>as as a follow up to it there's one you might be able to see it word coming up soon at <&>name of school which um margaret and i are going to go to it's a DAY course and then there's a three hour session follow ups afterwards so it's basically on the <&>9:00 draft curriculum but BASically the <.>draft i mean the whole draft curriculum it's not the content that's changed at all in fact the content's basically the same basically <.>it's it's a methoDOLogy of how to teach it and er rather than learning a whole lot of facts and figures that it's it's how <.>you kids learn mathematics and it's geared towards a lot of group work um tut um i guess problem solving investigations and the rest of it er <.>the <.>there's and it's not going to be easy er <.>t <{><[>obviously no it's not going to be easy to implement <.>and and possibly people won't change so as long as people enter into the spirit of it i think um the maths course in the holidays was quite good although a lot of it was repetition of stuff i'd seen before and i guess a lot of those people er those sort of those course junkies that go around all the courses and <.>they they know it all as well so <[>to implement? you mean yeah but otherwise it was quite good but this inset one that's coming up in i think next month some time and it's at <&>name of school <&>10:00 and it's being run by um rochelle <.>r rochelle <.>r robson robson yeah um clears throat now <.>i i'm very keen to have a third and fourth form problem solving evening and i've pencilled down next thursday night but i think that's far too <{1><[1>soon and margaret and i talked before and i think what we'll do is AFTER the school exams we'll have a thursday <{2><[2>night one <[1>too soon <[2>you'll have to wait till after midterm break cos straight after school exams the third forms go to camp <.>in <{1><[1>in that last word <{2><[2>i've just written it in it has to be after midterm break <[1>do they <[2>yeah wait till after midterm break so i'll be here when is the er the <&>name of region maths one that's <.>the <,,> that's the other point cos we'd need to have it before then <{><[>what's word <[>the end of july wouldn't you middle of july end of july i think thirteenth after midterm break ALso mm what i suggest we do is we have another school one but have a block out of the auditorium for a day and so we <{><[>set desks up <[>and when are you going to do that i think mhm? when are you gonna do it do we need to? WHEN are you going to do it oh after well i'd say <.>pr possibly after midterm but the one we're gonna do the <.>next oh is this different from the evening one <&>11:00 yeah the evening one will be just one team from each class or two if you can get two? yeah two if you have two but <.>i i think we might be struggling to get two <{><[>your class had two eh? <[>to <.>get to get kids my class would be REALLY <{><[>struggling to get <.>two to get ONE <[>yeah no a couple of mine would get two but i think we <.>just insist that they have one we're just <.>i <.>we're MINIMUM of one yeah we have to twist a few arms even you know i'm <.>like i mean i asked today how many would like to go in in the evening one and you know two or three of them put their hands up but <.>i i <.>think i THINK um if <.>y if the right <.>approach if you went up to someone like tia and said you know you were really good at this tia and we'd like to see a GIRL in this you know and whatever as well <{><[>and teach them <[>when i told mine that <.>it that it was coming up they were keen clears throat were they yeah but that was STRAIGHT after they'd just done <.>the done the one where <.>they cos they didn't like the idea of being in um <{><[>where <.>we <.>m where we put them in you know where a lot of them we split up and spread and they were quite keen to have a go in there with their mates or with the people who they thought <.>w they <.>were were able <[>mixed mm mm i think they er you know <.>i <.>i i got a <&>12:00 feeling that they all enjoyed <.>it the kids had enjoyed it i think if we run along the lines of having <.>a another whole day and we <.>had put all the third and fourth formers through and then we have a night one where we get our best ones out and then we pick our teams for <.>the for the um schools' competition i think we'll get a fairly <.>good fairly good fourth form team mark sanderson's very good and you know not just at problem solving i think the THIRD form we should be quite <{><[>good shouldn't we <[>quite strong yeah with tom and all those kids yeah and hugh bennett <.>and yeah <.>we we'd get a good team mm cos we should try and compete and try and er do well in that and er <{><[>word <[>well it'd be the biggest build up that we've seen i mean i didn't see any of this last year no no <{><[>no the kids are used to <.>it experience practise it <.>and <.>and <[>the kids have had lots of experience at it especially if you do two more just in the tactics eh mm so i thought we'd get <.>it throw it open and get parents to see if they want to come along it'll only be an hour and a quarter hour and a half length we could run the third and fourth form one exactly the same time probably mm couldn't we margaret mm i can't see why not yeah and just <.>have and they're all in together it's much better the thing is we're <&>13:00 gonna need help with it that's the thing yeah but i thought <.>w i thought monique's kids might be quite good <{><[>but word <[>yeah well i mean <.>who whoever <.>is with helpers there too <.>i <.>i <.>it the parents are able to WATCH them move around without <.>s saying and they'll enjoy that yeah just like at a <.>proper <{><[>proper night <[>yeah we can run one like that and have some of them on the <{><[>mike and sort of giving questions for the word we could actually look at getting some sponsorship i suppose too couldn't we <[>mm yeah right why not what about <.>pr probably enjoy that get someone from down here from down there to sponsor it yeah just give a few prizes out a few spot prizes yeah have <.>a have cup of tea afterwards for the parents <.>and it's quite a good public relations <{><[>exercise <[>mm <[>mcdonald's will always give you <.>s blimmin vouchers too okay well <{><[>perhaps we'll all get a sub committee to organise that later on um programmes of work how are we getting on with programmes of work <,,><&>3 <[>kids like those that's why i want to see the fourth form exam david so i <{1><[1>know whether my kids have done all that we're supposed to have done for the <{2><[2>exam <[1>all right <[2>yeah i'll just run through it here now i had <.>a you know it came through today i had a <&>14:00 look through the um midterm one for last year and it's basically it's the same except we've got pythagoras and trigonometry in this year which we didn't have in last year <.>h what <.>else what else is in there though what other <.>s so we've done the first six we've got calculators we've done this year <{><[>word <[>it was <.>only it was two hours last year it's only an <.>hour or is it an <{><[>hour and a half or two hours <[>yes hour and a half yeah there was TWO hours last year yeah whole numbers now that would include er i <.>would i would assume that would include decimal places significant figures standard form rounding factors multiples powers they would have all been in the calculators assignment <{><[>word anyway <[>yeah decimals fractions and ratio <,> integers equations angles and shape including bearings er internal and external angles of polygons <{><[><.>pyth <[>it's actually in the third form too yeah laughs yeah um pythagoras and trigonometry and statistics and probability <,,> well i've got to do <{1><[1>pythagoras and trigonometry <{2><[2>and word <[1><.>we did we do <.>s <[2>there's some multi choice <{><[>questions word <&>15:00 <[>i've got to do all the stats cos <{><[>i haven't done any stats <[>i know word that shouldn't take two weeks though oh all <.>that <{><[>god it takes me <.>l that long with the fifth form <[>oh well we've got <{><[>to just make <.>sure <[>you know I was amazed today to discover <.>s kids still not able in a practical sense to use the <.>x the squared button and the square root button on their calculators <,> <{><[>and i <.>mean <[>yeah but <.>that's that's not YOUR problem <{><[>word <[>no i know but i mean it's a HOLDUP mm tut i <.>think if we're doing pythag and they <{><[><.>d
