yeah yeah er i mean he's a pretty live wire isn't he this boy oh yes he is yes he <{><[>is <[>he even likes coming to the vet yeah yes oh he couldn't resist he's calmed down yeah so he likes going for walks and oh yes and he's a big wussie with other dogs too he's good with other dogs? yeah <{><[>yes <[>oh that's good so it's quite good because er i was out with <&>17:00 a women's two um <,> oh two or three nights ago about that she has two beagles right and <,> i think she's thinking about switching to your clinic too is she yeah i know one for sure that er is and that's um paulette coates she's got a collie oh right have you been <.>recommend singing my praises have you laughs well actually i'll tell you something word backpacker with me no i'll start from scratch he works in backpackers the motel yeah and he's got two dogs and he's got them sorted out but sends them on to backpackers you see so all these different nationalities come up <,> so i saw him the other day and i said er i tried to get um tut <,> oh he said how's it getting along with the two beagles and i said well it's healthy i said with the weight cos i said i've been told to take one and half kilos <,> off him i said before i take him back to the vet's he said god that must be central park veterinary clinic <{><[>laughs laughs i said you take your dogs there he said no cos i don't think they'd go anywhere frankly <&>18:00 er no but he said er two or three mates i know he said take their dogs there and he said they all get told the same thing laughs <[>laughs let them lose weight you know why because most of them are overweight yeah <{><[><.>oh oh he dotes on these two beagles and actually she's the fanatic she weighs their food <[>mm mm and strict and that <{1><[1>and oh it's wonderful to watch the three dogs there's and all got the same <{2><[2>tails down these bush tracks and <{3><[3>word <[1>mm <[2>laughs <[3>so <.>di did you recommend her to come and see me did you yeah yeah word she got some problems with them or just no no she's as i say she's a fanatic with them and er she loves the beagles word <{1><[1>word word no i've said to her you know she said we'll talk about it particularly she knew me when <.>y you know with <{2><[2>amigo as well you kept him going <,> but <{3><[3>it's paulette's fed up with the <,> word and that i said well that's the reason i said bob took <.>am amigo away i said back in eighty seven <[1>oh right <[2>yeah yeah <[3>oh that's good yeah that's when you started coming to see me wasn't me then yeah yeah cos i was in hospital that time <&>19:00 yeah all the nurses wanted to come with bob too when they saw you on t v laughs they said oh we'll help you with your dog <{><[>laughs <[>oh god <,> okay so um we're due for vaccine <,> and um now any other problems clare? <{><[>at all <[>no no actually i the er eh? one thing i wanted to ask you about was the quantity of baking soda for the peeing? yeah have you tried it yeah do you think it's worked it's working laughs but i'm a bit worried what's happening inside him well <,> you're how much are you giving him about a teaspoon to a bowl of water? yeah and the bowl'll hold one and a <.>h half pints yeah all you got to do is alkalise his urine that's all <{><[>word <[>yeah cos i noticed <{><[>that you know <[>word what i suggest you do is do that for a while mm drop me a urine sample and i'll just check it and make sure it's not going too alkaline oh that's a good idea you know yeah so <,> if you just drop me a urine sample i'll just put a dip stick in it and if it was going <&>20:00 very very alkaline it could leave him prone to bladder stones so <{><[>it'd have to be i mean this is all very general you know i mean you'd have to be changing it dramatically <[>yes yeah there's no real way that you'd word i i thought that the one thing that was hard on him when i was put up to the <{><[>hospital word and the smell <[>well i was <,> yeah well well put it this way just check his urine i mean this is all on the outside a very very remote chance that it'll do anything to him because it's all being excreted it's just baking soda yeah it's just that i i keep his water bowl in the cupboard i always have mm it's a sliding cupboard it's always left open cos you don't kick it over and kick you know somebody <{1><[1>kicks it and i've noticed that the paper i left it on er crackling creping where he keeps he's a <{2><[2>sloppy he's a splasher and amigo was a very clean word <{3><[3>word word <[1>mm <[2>word <[3>yeah yeah well baking soda's alkaline but it won't be it won't be doing the least harm to him but i mean once again it's it's only an empirical thing a teaspoon is plenty <.>just probably a half try a half a <{><[>teaspoon yeah <[>yeah i thought i might cut it down and er okay but i mean it's only it's just as a general thing which i've found over the years it never seems to do any harm to them and <&>21:00 well he's loving his water better is he yeah and i i tried it you know er these little fingers <{><[>it's a lot softer and sweeter <[>yes mm and er yeah well that's <{><[>good <[>yeah the number i'm word here <{><[>too <[>that's right so i'll just make a note of all that so he's due for his vaccine no other problems though? no he's been good what about worming do you want me to worm him <{><[>for you <[>oh yes please i usually do that for you do we dare weigh him? yeah <{><[>laughs <[>laughs <&>dog barks i'll <.>w i'll weigh him on the way out laughs see the reason we've got to think about it cos we know how much of a difference it makes to him to keep him healthy yeah keep him <.>slim you know it's like people <{><[>you know same thing <[>yeah oh he got a stitcher on sally last time because <.>y you know on about his weight and he's looking at the sweets' jar and she says what's he <.>li doing when he's left something over there and i said well i said he's possibly smelt the the lollies and she's oh not for you she said you're too fat and <{1><[1>laughs nah just she's setting mummy an example wasn't she <{2><[2>laughs <[1>oh well that's pretty mean isn't it <,> i think we could give her one <[2>eh? <.>she she's a bit of a hard <&>22:00 taskmaster is sally if you ever come along and say <{><[>sal <[>no i like her and er yeah well she's still with me she's operating today on word <{><[>word <[>no she's very um no i've got great confidence in her good word i mean because we're so busy at the moment oh so busy yeah well <.>l you know bob used to say don't recommend too many or he won't have time for <{><[>us laughs <[>laughs baking soda for um er for mm right okay um now let's just have a look at your <.>ey cos you had this op with the eyes once didn't you yeah they seem to be all right now you don't <{><[>seem to have any word <[>yeah cos my neighbour took over putting the drops in <,> you know the radiologist guy i told you about oh right he's fascinated with the never had anything to do with an animal before you see hasn't he? no and he likes silver oh yes silver adores him oh word that yeah says parnell yeah he's gone to christchurch hasn't he for four days for a conference word <&>next two utterances addressed to dog word i'll just have a bit more of a poke and a prod at you silvy you look pretty relaxed you haven't had any you're got <&>23:00 this big flea collar yeah that's good mm haven't had any fleas at all? yeah he's <{1><[1><.>a a bit low down <{2><[2>there <[1>word <[2>yeah they <.>al they they when they're neutered they lose their without their testosterone they <.>g get their muscles get weaker and they just sag oh that's what you notice as well as his body line yeah <{><[>word <[><&>next utterance addressed to dog that's why they're calling you fat you're really not <{><[>fat laughs <[>oh is that what it is they always do put on more weight when they're neutered <{1><[1>so got to remember that <&>next utterance addressed to dog no you look pretty good <{2><[2>silver <[1>yes <[2>oh if he hadn't been neutered i don't know what he would be like well he could've been er the word dog of haitaitai couldn't he yeah laughs <&>next two utterances addressed to dog we'll give you a couple of wormers <,,> sit <{><[>sit sit sit <[><&>next utterance addressed to dog sit sit sit silver <&>next utterance addressed to dog sit <&>next utterance addressed to dog that's it i think food's <.>his <.>p main preoccupation isn't it mm? food's his major <{><[>preoccupation <&>24:00 <[>yeah oh you want to see him when i'm cooking i <.>th i try to stop him gets his just gets his tips of his claws on the edge of the bench so i do all the chopping up further over you see watches anything you do with baking or anything just in case a little bit comes <{><[>his way <[>yep laughs the patience honestly i've never known a dog like it oh yeah cos it just just in case there's a slight chance a tidbit will be there yeah <,> now he's not going to kennels at all over summer is he no no <&>next utterance addressed to dog hang on silver here he's got a memory like nobody's business because i was feeding the neighbour's cat for three days and yeah it's two houses away <,> and you like you know try and sneak up there and voc so he wouldn't know i was feeding jack but as soon as the owners came back and jack was out feeling a bit safe again he copped him in the drive and laughs chased him home laughs laughs <,,> <&>next two utterances addressed to dog good boy all done you'll have a word when you get a word to eat laughs mm? <&>25:00 so i think everything's fine clare i think everything's really good can't see any problems his teeth i've had a look at they're um little bit yellow there but the back ones are good and healthy yeah i give him brisket bones does he have a good chew on them yeah and er the only thing is that he's never gonna chew the whole lot without wanting a <,> comfort <{1><[1>stop when he's had a bone i've tried different times of the day giving <{2><[2>him bones <[1>oops <[2>a comfort stop you mean <{1><[1>he's got to have a pee or <{2><[2>word bowels <[1>mm <[2>word yeah mm and inevitably with a bone mm so er i've tried different times you know but er always seems to be the same well i mean you know just an occasional <{><[>one oh you only need one a week is the maximum <[><.>j oh i give him three a week and i thought that was being mean oh i don't know i don't even give my dog any cos she just throws them up even with <{><[>brisket <[>yeah oh renee used to do that and <{><[>word <[>so some of them you have to um you know clean their teeth if you can't do that but yeah he's pretty good he'll be right for <{><[>word <[>how how lovely teeth you know white teeth i'll put him out to the car and then i'll <{><[>come back <[>okay that's fine then <&>25:56 <&>both move away from tape recorder
