<&>Wellington Corpus of Spoken New Zealand English Version One <&>Copyright 1998 School of Linguistics & Applied Language Studies <&>Victoria University of Wellington <&>side one <&>0:15 he comes every tuesday morning at ten oclock <.>and um after he's done his truck delivery and he stops and he has a chat and cup of coffee and then i normally go off to school about ten to twelve oh right and the tuesday before he brought <&>pronounced bought maryanne who lives up here oh yeah <.>sh and she works on the truck as well occasionally <{><[>and <[>what's he deliver um i think it's pick up and delivery for apple and pear board i'm not sure er <{1><[1>he does that you know he does it down to new world and back and <{2><[2>word <[1>oh right <[2>are you having an affair with him no oh he just calls in to see you yeah these are my friends just like shirley and <{><[>that coming see a lot of people seem to think that <,> oh that's like that <.>guy that <.>guy the other guy i went out with the security guard he would never come and meet my friends <&>1:00 <[>oh i see yeah yeah why well he'd meet the women that's sexist isn't it oh <{><[>yeah <[>he would come and meet the women but he couldn't handle meeting the guys yeah <,> <{><[>yeah <[>even when like eddie came for tea that night he rang up FIVE times <,> to come and um <,> come over or check what i was doing <,> eddie didn't help with little comments he made off the phone and then he came as soon as eddie left about oh about ten oclock at <{1><[1>night he came down the driveway and it was like he was WAITING <,> <{2><[2>and i know somebody else did that to a <.>f another friend of mine eh used to spy on them <.>li if they were going out with anyone else after their relationship was finished <[1>mm <[2>oh yeah who's this who did they came down the drive to see this is this guy <{1><[1>i sort <.>of yeah yeah oh this group of <{2><[2>yeah <[1>oh that you were going out with <[2>was he jealous yeah couldn't handle that i tell you what we did something really interesting on on um on thursday a group of four of us <.>did got our <&>2:00 colours done you know that <{><[>where <.>you you do <.>that yeah it's really interesting that's why i'm wearing silver these are the only clothes i can wear laughs <.>that that are my colours <[>oh that's supposed to be really good where <{><[>did you get the word <[>i've been wearing them for five days to word <{><[>laughs <[>but don't you believe in that some colours <{><[>you know yourself you suit i like blues and i'm trying to get away from blues <[>yeah yep oh yeah yeah and um so <.>silv what are your colours then karen oh they first of all they put your hand on this gold cloth and silver cloth and it's amazing what makes your hands look long and slender <.>or and less wrinkled <.>ar are your thing then she drapes all these colours round here and it actually <,> <{1><[1>if you look at your face no but she watches and then oh this woman and <.>darren kay gerard came in <.>an and they were sitting round and you <.>cou when other people were getting it done i couldn't see it so much in myself but you could REALLY see a visible difference when she'd say focus on the skin <.>and and <{2><[2>it would actually look less wrinkled and smoother in certain colours and as soon as you put <.>a another colour round your skin would look more wrinkled and it was AMAZING and she'd say voc stops of a line that would flow up naturally you know and actually can see a difference whereas and <.>y and you can be winter and summer and spring <.>this and what's it spring and autumn so <.>that and they're cool colours and warm colours and MY ONE i'm a cool person and i've always thought i suited the browns and rusts and all that she said no i'm a dramatic <,> you know that <{3><[3>kind of colours and she makes you up then then and it's incredible i've <.>never red this bold red lipstick absolutely berry red <{4><[4>aMAZing she put silver earrings on and did all <.>your all your eye make up in really DARK bold colours and it looked stunning you wouldn't <{5><[5>believe the difference <{6><[6>but i wear <.>very <[1>because you can't really see yourself eh what your skin <[2>and the shine or anything <&>3:00 else eh <[3>mm <[4>laughs <[5>yeah i did that <[6>but also sometimes it's hard to do a change isn't <{><[>once you're used to a certain way <[>YEAH i just couldn't beLiEVE the <.>d and watching it and kay gerard's got quite sort of POCKED skin through old <{1><[1>acne you know i mean she's <.>a not that you judge people on that and she made her up and she hardly ever wears make up she's real sort of tomboyish and stunning she just looked amazing eh in the right colours and then you get this wad of colour things like taking home a paint chart you <.>go <{2><[2>to get clothes and you flip it out and say no but it's quite good cos it eliminates a whole lot of things that don't make you look good <[1>mm <&>4:00 <[2>laughs yeah so <.>it <{><[>it limits your choice <[>yeah yeah but isn't it good having friends <.>l like tonight okay my boots weren't ready so i had to wear my other black shoes you know <{1><[1><.>like sort of like boots things my black leather trousers and then i had this white top i was going to wear and i HAD that jersey that i <.>kn knitted but it's sort <.>of it's getting commonplace now not like it's a special thing <{2><[2>anymore and i was saying to shona about it and she say oh i've got these two jerseys in the drawer one's a sweatshirt type thing and one's a jersey that are evening wear <.>that that <{3><[3>look i was looking for but she's got nothing else to wear <.>w with so we tried both of them and i've got one of them to wear <&>5:00 tonight and it's white and it's a sweatshirt material but it's got these beautiful flowers down it and it's done in black and that shiny silver <{4><[4>which sets off the black leather the black leather <{5><[5>and the other one was all in white jersey with white pearls on and sort of like a stripe right down like here but caught the light <{6><[6>it was nice but cos the other had the black on <[1>yeah <[2>mm <[3>yeah <[4>oh lovely <[5>oh that's neat <[5>word <[6>yeah yeah yeah it set off the black trousers <{1><[1>and the earrings she gave me tonight she said and these <{2><[2>these you know laughs and she says <{3><[3>you're all coloured coordinated you'll look <{4><[4><.>f evening wear and that little bit voc so i had the clothes at home but they were <.>summer summer wear <[1>mm <[2>oh neat yeah <[3>very nice <[4>yeah yeah <.>too not warm enough <{><[>and so it's was really good of her she said <.>s now all i need is i've got the jersey oh i need something to go <.>with <[>yeah that's good isn't it yeah and it was just good eh sort of all working out what clothes to wear but i'm like you <.>i've i only like the blues and i wear a lot of blues <{><[>i'm trying to get away from it <.>i and i suit black but um red's not too bad but needs to be broken with something else <.>it's <&>6:00 <[>mm yeah <{1><[1>these <.>colours yeah can wear reds but it'll <.>si show whether to get that orangey based red or the <.>thing and all of us are all shocked and going oh no we don't want <.>to we <.>don't they had a lot of coming to terms with colours like raewyn's a warm and that suits all those rust word <{2><[2>spring colours that <.>war and those colours and she's horrified but <.>they she made her up with this beautiful <{3><[3>coral lipstick and she's a blonde and she's always worn the blues and <{4><[4>pinks and word <[1>not a colour i really pick <.>but <[2>mm <[3>laughs sort of thought <[4>actually my hair's got darker and darker as i've got older um <{><[><.>how how did you go about having the party <[>looked amazing well we got invited to another make up thing and the woman there does these consultations and they're sixty five bucks yeah <{><[>i knew that <[>it's it's an hour or more on each person <{><[>an hour and a half <[>but it sounds like it'd be quite worthwhile though eh yeah oh well it was amazing <{><[>i mean all of them <.>really <[>maybe you could have one of those colour parties up here mm don't invite liz though <{><[>it's <.>not laughs <[>sixty five dollars for each <,> um person it's quite dear <&>7:00 do you have to pay sixty five <{><[>dollars <[>yeah yeah to get it done they don't have <.>a a group rate or something yeah that's the group rate it's ninety five if you have it individually god <.>like but she spends a lot of time i mean it sounds like it was worth it eh mm just would you use all the colours that she chose though oh <.>i well i will i haven't got my thing i would have brought it in to show you actually but um <{1><[1>she <.>she <{2><[2>i'm a winter one it's not you <.>don't you're not limited you can wear all the colours but then the shades of them like <{3><[3>word <[1>what <.>colours did she tell you <[2>well <.>liz liz's actually got the book shirley <[3>liz's got the book and she's shown us and she's had it against like <{1><[1>we did it one time and tom was having a laugh when we the colours <{2><[2>against us but it is actually like you said but i suppose if the material somebody <{3><[3>would have it would be easier than a book <[1>oh <.>yeah oh did you <[2>mm <[3>yeah mm and just reading from it <{><[><.>because <[>well no they've got these little cards where you can just put it out and say well it doesn't flow and that's well that's not going to <{><[>look good on me <[>did you find that some <.>colours yeah well some colours if they picked a winter colour winter as your thing that all the colours didn't really suit you yeah or just parts of them no <{><[>they did suit me <&>8:00 <[>must have <.>just did they they're all the shades <.>of <.>th like the right shade of yellow the right shade <.>of and she'll put whether you should wear a winter white or plain white see plain white which i never would have <.>thought i've always thought i'd be a cream no i've had to <{><[>wear cream i've got word <[>person it <.>was <.>i and she said it's got nothing to do with my hair changing colour now it's grey but i always thought gold jewellery looked better on me but no when she put the silver on with this BRIGHT red lipstick i felt like marilyn monroe god it was <{1><[1>funny big lips i <{2><[2>felt <.>really and i had it on and i called into the dairy where i usually go and get my cigarettes <{3><[3>laughs and he was LOOKING at me and then suddenly realised i had this huge big red lips <{4><[4>and i felt really selfconscious and i sort of shuffled out he laughed eh cos i usually go in <.>with i don't wear make up <[1>laughs <[2>laughs <[3>laughs <[4>laughs <&>8:45
