father got money in the bank that he could do it no he could mortgage oh he shouldn't do it i know if dave can't do it <,> well i guess he could help dave do it so dave's got a loan but dave can't do it i mean dave doesn't own that farm <{><[>he couldn't buy that farm <[>mm no no he hasn't even been share milking properly yet you know so <{1><[1>word that he's going off to try and er milk cows on a bigger farm to earn more money <{2><[2>so he can come back to the farm but for the meantime <{3><[3>dad has to keep <,> you know <,> <{4><[4>doing it doing it <[1>no <[2>oh yeah <[3>mm <[4>mm mm <,> mm he's been sick of it for years but he could <,> he doesn't have to work it does he no but it gets really just employing people you <&>2:00 know <{1><[1>doesn't get on with them usually <{2><[2>and laughs <[1>mm <[2>mm mm <{><[>word <[>word wine to go with this white wine word yeah i think you could probably use white wine in mussels i'm sure i could find red wine <{><[>word <[>no just to put in the mussels open a bottle mm gosh what are those kids up to watching mickey mouse they're quite happy in there word today when i was mum was out <,> at a meeting and i was looking after sean and douglas and i was just playing with sean i'd forgotten about douglas and i was in the sandpit and then voc douglas started crying around the corner so sean said where's douglas where's douglas so i thought i'd better have a word look laughs and douglas had climbed up into the tree house <,> up the ladder and he couldn't get down laughs he was quite freaked out eh he could have easily fallen and broken his neck laughter there's not much he can get into eh katherine well that's what i thought he <{><[>couldn't damage himself laughs i was wrong <[>laughs got to watch them eh <{><[>yeah <[>well i came back about five minutes later and there was NOBODY in the house except the two kids and sean was up here <&>3:00 and a chair was out here <,> and he couldn't get down off the bench oh laughs <{><[>laughs <[>i was <{><[>on the phone <[>so i called kath and NO kath word i was in the office <{><[>on the phone <[>and the other little one was playing with these things like that oh laughs and the other one's sort of laughs laughs i think you haven't got the true <{><[>word <[>where were you were you in sherily's office i was in the office on the phone well i got annoyed because i was <.>try trying to talk on the phone and sean was on the phone in the other room saying MUMMY MUMMY laughs while i was having a conversation so you said to him climb up on the bench sean laughter then you pulled the chair away go and play in the kitchen <{><[>no play on the motorway <[>and i i chucked him over there and he threw a tantrum so i ignored him and then when he shut up i thought god thank goodness for that and just forgot about him could have put his finger in a socket or something yeah <,> yeah they could do a damage i guess <,> but belinda just ignores them most of the time doesn't she she doesn't check up on them <{><[>no <[>she's probably got a childproof house it's a little bit easier at home i think they've got their own <{1><[1>word they they they know <{2><[2>their <[1>yeah <[2>and they're fenced in on the outside <{><[>which they're not here <[>where they go to you know they're what fenced in they're fenced in <&>4:00 but well i thought the only thing that today that would happen would be could be they'd walk under the mower that dad was mowing around with <,> i didn't think of the tree <{><[>house <[>no i watch them <,,> i wouldn't want to break the mower no that's what i thought laughs laughs but they don't give a stuff about that sandpit that was a real waste of time <{><[>OH word <[>word no they've been playing in it heaps <{><[>today <[>have they heaps and heaps heaps oh yeah <,> yeah they're pretty keen on it <,> it's a bit difficult when it's raining dad laughs <{><[>laughs <[>but there's sand everywhere <{><[>the garden's full of sand <[>kids <{><[>do you reckon <[>kids are softer than they were in my day they didn't care if it was raining <{1><[1>word rain hail or snow you in the <{2><[2>sand <[1>laughs <[2>word word time when it was sunny laughs laughs i've been making up for it now do you want a hand mum no good well it's such a simple meal isn't it mm word <{><[>word <[>those kids aren't going to eat mussels are they no but they love corn oh that's all right then <&>5:00 and they will eat potato i cooked potato mm <&>short section not transcribed susanna had her fourth birthday party on <,> tuesday oh really i went down before and blew up balloons and that but i left before the party why don't know didn't i don't know laughs what was she like what susanna mm she's really um <,> she wasn't very excited actually oh she's really quiet she's quite shy isn't she yeah well she sort of knows me quite good now <{1><[1>and timu but she's just very quiet very she doesn't <,> at the beach she got a bit excitable running round but like these kids are really really boisterous and she's the opposite <{2><[2>very quiet but i think that might be the difference between being a child on your own <[1>mm <[2>mm yeah and being with in a <{><[>family <[>well delia's not really that kind of no gregarious sort of a girl no and she's really quiet and voc um susanna spends heaps of times with her grandparents and they're really quiet mm sue and stan they hardly talk is delia working yeah at night fulltime <&>6:00 three <{><[>twelve hour nights <[>three <.>twel yeah three twelve hour god well it's terrible because she has these baby sitters when she's working and she needs baby sitters while she's sleeping the next day her parents have her have susanna at night time and susanna goes in the play centre <,> or whatever <,> in daytime oh <{><[>is she <.>hap <[>except in the weekends when her parents have her again mm so her parents are really doing a lot mm <,> do you think they mind no i think they accept it as their lot mm and is she happy working like that no she's sick of the job especially in i h c because they've reduced the workers no she's really <{><[>unhappy <[>you'd think she could get on the d p b she's oh she doesn't want to be on the d p b word fair enough <,> good on her she'd rather be working than be on <.>ben benefit <,> and she she reckons she could hardly survive on a benefit she probably couldn't like she'd have to give up her car and stuff like that mm but it's like voc to me her life is like <,> it just stretches ahead forever <&>7:00 mm like i remember a while voc back when i was here oh i don't know if it was delia or alli that said about delia just seeing nothing changing until she retires so she's sort of planning she puts she's got some sort of superannuation scheme or something <,> <{><[>you know <[>so when she's sixty her life can begin or something well it's just like her life is planned delia's got superannuation? she's got some policy or something yeah paying for your house is meant to be your best superannuation oh right mm okay but she's so bored she's just so bored she voc i mean <,> yeah <,> to me she just seems really flat eh <{><[>mm <[>really blah it must be the pits having a kid on your own <,> like the woman next door to me's got a kid sort of on her own but she has lots of support like the father has it mm the kid goes out to other people all the time yeah and delia's hardly got any friends here yeah yeah like <,> so nothing's really happening yeah i don't think it's it's probably to do with having a kid but it's it's to do with where she's living and that <&>8:00 yeah mm would you rather have fresh fruit for pudding or a cake <{><[>oh <[>what sort of cake date and walnut cake both laughter okay <,> okay you're gonna whip one up you didn't even ask me did you mum <,> laughs yeah i've been bloody drinking beer and eating ice cream for the last couple of weeks have you yeah i'm a bit sort of doing macrobiotics a little bit but <{><[>not you know it's sort of out the window a bit really <[>mm mm you should come down to wellington with me why don't you come down i've got lawns to mow tut someone else will do it <,> just ring them up i need the money i'm really broke you wouldn't spend much in wellington laughs <{><[>i word <[>you have to you have to catch the bus up mind you <,,> mm yeah i'm really broke it's a pain eh i'm sick of it see i'm i've got i'm gonna let out my sleepout now get <&>9:00 forty <,> dollars or so for that so that'll i can use that for therapy treatment i decided oh that's a good idea cos i <.>c you know i've been <{><[>getting by <[>what can you do for forty dollars oh <,> anything <,> well <{><[>not anything but <[>mm shit yeah i'm going to see this woman next week <,> i've spoke this woman i this other woman told me about her she does kind of <,,> oh she does lots of different sort of stuff <{><[>but it's more sort of healing work than counselling i think <[>mm mm i reckon i need healing mm it was good seeing cynthia OH YEAH HOW DID IT GO it was good <{><[>yeah <[>she had she told me she's been going to this therapist for about a year and she didn't know if she's done her any good or not but she's gonna keep going mm she's been depressed for quite a while and that is she still with that woman she was with about three or four years ago no she's <{><[>with a new woman <[>mm <&>10:00 <{><[>mm <[>who's a set designer for tele or something quite <,> <{1><[1>well to do and i said god at least she's got um <,> kind of <,> at least your girlfriends are kind of healthy and got good paying jobs even if <{2><[2>you're not a success <[1>mm <[2>mm but when like when she was in first in aussie she was doing training <,> drama sort of stuff eh yeah she's not doing she said she's doing a little bit of clowning mm and a little bit of home nursing but it's like she's not feeling very confident about anything oh right so she's good but she's not great you know has she gone back now yeah <{><[>she just stayed over night on the way up <[>mm oh that would be neat she was over here a couple of weeks ago with her girlfriend they were travelling around oh yeah and i never saw her and i thought oh cos when i went <.>d down to taranaki mum told me and i thought oh that's a shame yeah it would've been really good oh i <{1><[1>would've liked to have seen her too actually <{2><[2>if she was in wellington <[1>so that was neat <[2>yeah i tried to get her to stay i said you should stay and come down and see katherine with me oh but she had stuff organised to go back or something mm but she was looking good <{><[><,> and sounded pretty good <[>yeah yeah oh and i saw her younger sister last night <,> <{1><[1>sharon did you ever meet her singali she used to be <{2><[2>she was in ananda marga <&>11:00 <[1>who's that <[2>yeah oh yeah i have met her and now she's sort of hanging out with this really rough crowd voc i went out to this new nightclub in auckland and <{><[>they were there <[>mm mm like quite rough <,> and she's sort of still really kind of <,> gentle and innocent sort of like she's really kind of <,> i don't know she seems like a really innocent sort of girl well she can't be i think she is quite i don't know well she's she'd be <,> about thirty no she's not not much younger than us yeah she'd be a bit younger than us mm she's younger than my younger sister oh yeah <,> <{><[>huh <[>mm but <{1><[1>she's really she's really nice and sort of pleasant and everything <{2><[2>you know <[1>word <[2>mm so she's left <.>anand ananda marga oh absolutely <,> but then <.>sh she's playing in this band um i think it's sort of just heavy metal sort of women laughs so different to ludina eh voc yeah god mm <&>11:58
