yeah good idea <{><[>i haven't seen one like that <.>i <.>wh was it recently <[>mind <.>you um this morning's paper oh really? why don't you ring up and see mm i suppose i'm thinking nobody will want to buy <.>a an external er frame but somebody MIGHT mm and if you flogged it off <.>then but it any case whether you flog it or <.>not off or not why don't we get you another one mm it's a long time since we've done a proper <&>4:00 tramp <{><[>overnight tramp <[>it is isn't it that's right we've <.>never <.>we've yeah we haven't used our tent since the bike ride <{><[>that big bike ride we did <[>no i'd quite like to do something over summer actually yeah it's a bit COLD this time of year isn't it really for overnighters yeah it is a bit do you think <.>although but we've both got sleeping bags <.>a theoretically <.>a which can cope with it what are you thinking of say doing something in august well i think for an overnighter we could do over a weekend we <.>can mm head out from butterfly creek somewhere <.>or <,> i don't know go somewhere else mhm <,> just to get a bit of practice in well yeah it would be a bit of an adventure eh yeah still keen to do some biggish south island ones like um tut the routeburn <{><[>and all those <[>yeah i'd <.>love i'd really like to do the routeburn mm that would be a nice <{><[>thing to do eh <[>well if we plan to do that over summer perhaps well we also were talking about australia over summer mm <,> as well and boating round the abel tasman laughs it all seems so much we'll have to stay at home <&>5:00 just <.>t <{><[>recoup our energies <[>that's right that's right be too complicated to do it all mm perhaps we <.>c we might have to make some decisions around that mightn't we we'll have to look at our finances and then see yes i <.>suppose well probably <,> <{><[>um <[>actually um <.>just just off that for a minute um myrtle at work her brother has just bought a farm down in the sounds yeah and attached to the farm is a camping ground with facilities tut and it's right on the water's edge <,> so i was thinking it would be lovely one weekend even if it was a long weekend to take the um car over on the ferry yeah and it's two and a half hour's drive from picton <,> and take the rubber dinghy with us oh yes and the <{><[>motor and some fishing gear <[><.>and yeah <{><[>and um <[>and <.>she's she'll be happy to have us use that oh yes it's <.>public it's a public camping ground <{><[>anyway <[>oh i see oh great and er she said it's just a wonderful spot <.>whereabout two and a half hours from picton in <.>wh which <{><[>direction do you know <[>yes i don't know <.>i i don't know that area at all well all i know is from picton <&>6:00 to nelson but i don't know the sounds very well <,> oh there's some lovely fishing still there i <{><[>think in the right possies <[>mm well she went out fishing she's just come back from there and all she caught was a spotty <.>but that's not very encouraging no but they must have cod and all sorts of things there well they used to have a lot of blue cod <{><[>lovely blue cod cooked fresh and <.>oh <[>mm so we'll have to take a chilly <{><[>then to take it back with us <,> <.>and <[>it's wonderful <.>how <.>w i <.>s suppose we could take <.>a take a few chilled couldn't we back mm <,> could we i don't know can <.>we <.>i don't suppose there's any way really of freezing them and getting them back is there it's too long yes tut it's a pity we'll just eat them <.>all eat them there eat them <.>c <{><[><.>yeah mm <[>eat them fresh straight from the pan catch them on the saturday eat them on the saturday night and <{1><[1><.>sou sounds lovely i mean it's a <.>h area that's really close to us <{2><[2>and um <[1>or eat <.>them <[2>mm but i used to <.>like what we'd do when i was a kid in the sounds we used to sometimes catch <.>fish catch blue cod and <.>th just head for the beach and light a <.>b fire on the beach mm? and have a frying pan with us and <{><[>actually just cook them on the <.>fish on the beach and <&>7:00 eat them straight away <[>mm how lovely they were MARvellous <{><[>absolutely brilliant <[>mm when were YOU there as a kid i had <.>a i spent about <.>s when i was in my deeply religious phase ah i used to go down there with this group called the <{1><[1>um the crusaders yeah <{2><[2>and i went down for about three summers <[1>crusaders <[2>ah mm and then i was um invited down there <,> by this guy from lower hutt who invited all these teenage boys down mhm mm he was very laughs was he laughs he was indeed laughs oh dear fortunately he <.>d he didn't ever make any kind of um advances to me but i'm sure he was sleeping with one of the other boys on the boat at one stage oh was he <{><[>shame <[>what my mother thought she was doing letting me go off <.>with no i <.>mean i <{><[><.>w i would have <.>thought i suppose she just was very naive <[>mm probably was <{><[>probably thought it was fine yeah <[>could've been very awkward voc oh dear if it hadn't've been for the um crusaders <&>8:00 probably i wouldn't have got all that interested in tramping really <{><[><.>h how did that happen <[>mm cos um oh no <.>that's that's not quite true cos er my tramping interest was reinforced by marvin later but um i went on a crusaders camp to um national park mm and you know we did a tramp <.>across oh in fact climbed up tongariro and down the other side and did that track it was lovely oh good yeah yeah <.>though we did some good things <.>they we had a LOT of fun at the camp it really was just brilliant mm yes we did too <{><[>it was glorious <[>we did things like we used to chase the geese round <,> and once we were given permission by the farmer to actually CATCH one <{><[>and have it for dinner laughs <[>mm and did you yeah it was horrendous <.>we we <.>just what we did was we just ROWED <.>after after them until one of them got so tired it dived ah and then we jagged it with a fish hook on the end of a bit of stick that sounds cruel <{><[>as anything horrible little boys <[>laughs we were we were horrible little boys ah dear mind you if it was dinner i suppose it was a <&>9:00 different matter tut it was what <.>we i can remember we had <.>a <.>a what's that game where you have to go off and find strange objects you know? er <.>ts it called? yeah i can't remember <{><[>yeah <[>a treasure hunt yeah treasure hunt was it treasure hunt tut i think so you have a whole list of things <{><[>that you've got to bring back <[>mm like four leafed clovers yes that's right and we had <.>th <.>th my group had this guy in it who was really thick mm? so we er we looked on our list to find something that was absolutely easy to get mm and gave it to him and it was <.>w the thing we chose was a goose feather i mean given that there were hundreds of geese around the place mm we figured <.>it it would be VERY straightforward and what he did was er he came back with a whole goose <{><[>laughs he <.>put one had crash landed on the beach in front of him and broken it's neck would you believe <[>laughs good <{><[>grief poor guy <[>laughs <{><[>deary dear <[>ah dear it was quite fun so we should plan to do that yeah i think that's a good idea <.>i very easy to <.>s talk about these things and not do them isn't it it is yes much easier to sit in the warm and <&>10:00 talk about them really mm laughs i mean i'd <.>ra <.>the the picton trip i'd rather do towards summer perhaps in spring would be nice <,> <{><[>when it's starting to warm up and get a bit lighter and that <[>yes that's true we could perhaps organise a you know now <.>we can be a bit more flexible with holidays maybe we could organise a long weekend to do it on even mm <{><[>because <[>go down on friday night and come back <.>s monday <.>mor monday afternoon or something like that <&>10:20
