fundamental <{><[>to life <[><.>symbolic yeah fundamental to life yeah they were <,> <{1><[1>symbols of civilisation oh my list thank you <{2><[2>yeah <[1>your list's here <[2>laughs really yeah that's great that's a <.>nice yes what do they call them in painting like in literature they call it running themes when you have the same image used all through the <{><[>book <.>or <[>oh yes a running theme <{1><[1>er yeah i don't know <,,><&>4 <{2><[2>symbolics <[1>yeah <[2>oh my head is so blocked that i might take a panadol <{><[>word yeah it's just REALLY stuffed <[>still is? like your nose always is all that smoking i had about <,,> tut i must have had over fifteen camels between the time i went to get them at kahlo's and the time <&>2:00 i went to bed <,> <{><[>that's just crazy <[>mm fifteen camels in one head <.>that's <{><[><,> it's uncomfortable <[>laughs laughs yeah <,,> mm do you think we'll meet for dinner later on today? tonight? <{><[>when? <[>no yeah it's a <.>po er well of course sure i mean i've got my <.>ch my chicken soup tut i <.>wi <{1><[1>i will be going back for chicken soup at some stage it'd be nice for you to come and join me i don't know if you even like chicken soup <{2><[2>it's just that i <.>can't <[1>yeah <[2>or we could meet afterwards after i <.>do i don't have to be at varsity till twelve tomorrow i tell you what we could make <.>you we could give you a choice you could have either chicken soup or you could have chicken laughs <{><[>chicken stew <[>laughs pasta or <{><[>chicken on toast <[>chicken yeah <.>that's chicken and beans or hm <{><[>chicken with mango chutney <[>yes wow that sounds yummy sounds good? but um i won't thanks i'll <.>kill i'll have something to eat and then i'll come over <{><[>maybe and would you have me <[>mm oh <&>3:00 laughs certainly would <,,> <{><[>yeah you can <.>just consider yourself had consider yourself had pardon <[>cos um voc i don't have to <.>be at varsity till twelve <{><[>tomorrow <[>sniffs ah oh aha that's <{><[>reasonable <[>is that a hassle no <,> that means i might see you later in the <.>even in the evening <{><[>all going well <[>yeah even yeah wow that'd be great <,,><&>3 mm tut yeah it's good having a half day on monday voc <{><[>gently EASE your way into the week <[>quite nice yeah <,> <{><[>yeah exactly <[>rather <.>than rather than <.>like <,> wednesdays <.>or like um friends of mine like once you get to your third year and most people don't have schedules like mine mainly you just have like <,> two lectures you know two papers that you're doing mm and so you have like one <.>da <.>one only like maybe two or three days where you're at varsity and the rest are <.>just <,,> time is your own really <&>4:00 you know like magda she only has lectures on wednesday and thursday she has two on wednesday and two on thursday so she has monday tuesday and friday off it's supposed to be a harder year isn't <.>it third year than the second or <{><[>first <[>you're supposed to do more work on your own and i suppose lots of people are easing themselves into jobs you know so they're working parttime at places they might want to work in in the future tut and so a lot of people are only doing two papers lots most even and how many are you doing <,,> i'm doing one five six ? two no i'm doing more than that i'm doing about eight mm laughs <{><[>yeah <[>word or is it all essential is <{><[>it to make word <[>it's <.>all if i don't do them all i won't get my b a this year mm <,> yeah it'll be good to get out of the way and then you <.>can mm get on with other things yeah <.>you you'll be able to do next year more things that you're interested in will you <.>or tut masters yeah or honours honours i don't know it would depend i don't <&>5:00 know what i'll do but is <.>it those tend to be more specialised for degrees <.>don't aren't they really they'll be <,> <{1><[1>you won't have to <.>do you won't have to do mainstream stuff like medieval english or anything like that <{2><[2>you know <[1>yeah for sure you <.>will you'll be able <.>to <[2>oh no no you wouldn't have to that's true but i don't know if <.>i i'd do that maybe i'll go back to law even maybe mm how are you finding that medieval english stuff voc is it um kind of <{><[>ghastly laughs <[>voc i mean is <.>it does it really <,,> give you insight into the language that we use everyday or what or does it not really at all i think what's the purpose doing medieval? a lot of actual literature you know not the actual language but the literature that's written <{><[>now is influenced by literature written then like a lot of chaucer's tales <[>mm yeah have influenced like writers like t s elliot or john charles or people like that really so um you know they're interesting from that <&>6:00 point of view you find out background <,> <.>but probably influence everyone who ever did <.>a a b a in english yeah exactly <{><[>yeah you know they're <.>just laughs <[><.>why why could that be laughs oh yeah exactly but it's also an interesting time that was when the first universities were opened in england when chaucer was writing mm and that i think laughs i could be wrong but <.>i that's the impression we got speaking of medieval english would you like another chocolate biscuit <&>sound of crackling of biscuit packet continues over next four turns laughs i'd love one thanks mm they're kind of nothing aren't they <,,> yeah but they're a quite nice nothing though as nothing goes that would have to rate it quite highly laughs <,> nah i <.>think <,,> i know what you mean if you're going to have chocolate you might as <.>well <,> have <.>them have it <.>lavishly everywhere ravishing something word <&>7:00 yeah <,,> have you ever had bounty bars mm got coconut inside <,> it's quite yummy emma and i were addicted to that once they're like um milkos aren't they tut i don't think i've had that oh <,,><&>5 tut they've got a lot of coconut cream and mixed with condensed milk aha mhm sniffs <,,><&>5 <{><[>shall i do one of my primal screams <[>oh yes laughs <,> no <{><[><.>i <[>word mister johnson might be a bit alarmed i suppose mm <,,> <.>he's he's good isn't he he's a good neighbour <{><[>next door <[>he's nice i like him tut <,> shall we lure him up for a hudson wafer <,,> <{><[>shall we <[>do you think oh <,,><&>3 i don't know <,,> <&>8:00 tut i should really be more neighbourly shouldn't i <,> <{><[>it's just there's nowhere for anyone to sit <[>word mm <,,><&>7 <{><[>yeah you <.>didn't when you saw clare yesterday you didn't think she <,,> was like what she might have been like laughs i mean she wasn't what you imagined <[>tut word she looked a lot older than sandra i suppose <{><[>word <[>oh she is she's in her her late twenties mhm i think she's thirty this year or something mm <,,> yeah is she um did you say she's at varsity this year tut no she's an illustrator oh right and um tut she's just applied for this job that she thinks she's really <,> great for mm so <.>hopefully jobs for illustrators just don't exist surely yeah it was for um who was it for <,> tut um the correspondence school they <.>wanted mm tut someone tut to do <.>the <&>9:00 that'd be a terrific job it would be wouldn't it <.>and i read the ad it sounded amazing <{1><[1>so she's all excited and <{2><[2>organising her c v and things <[1>mm <[2>yes she's applied for this job mhm well mm yeah i sort of thought should i tell ann about it but then it seemed a bit mm disloyal laughs to clare oh no well i <.>think i think they wanted lots of experience <{><[>anyway <.>so <[>mm i think clare would have a bit more experience and <.>also yeah well <.>a ann is just starting off right mm tut but she's REALLY NICE she's just such a sweetie she's <{><[>just this REALLY <,,> you know she must have had such a sort of sheltered up bringing but she's just really cool and <.>not <,,> you know <.>like <[>mm she's <.>not you always er well i do sort of equate <{><[>experience with being interesting you know people who've done more are more interesting <[>word yes i don't know what you mean by that or maybe <&>10:00 they've got a greater store of anecdotes or something like that maybe that or <.>just no i <.>mean <,,> your mind is <.>more expanded you know <.>you but then she's like <{><[>me you know she went to sort of a private school and she's travelled a lot in her youth <.>and <,> word and things and so <.>maybe yeah <[>is it yeah <,,><&>3 <{><[>word <[>all of my amazing times are when i was too young to remember it <,> tut really no i think your life's sounds amazing all of it <{1><[1>really you never seem to have a dull chapter before you go slightly <{2><[2><,> berserk and start chopping people's heads off or something <[1>not really <[2>laughs well <{><[>oh <[>you do don't you you can't <.>h you can only handle so <.>much routine repetition and routine and then you <.>start yeah <.>getting laughs <{><[>laughs laughs <[>spastic it's true isn't it it IS true but that's not very good is it it's bad well it means <.>you if you <{><[>keep it on from <.>the <[>it means my life's <&>11:00 so boring that i have to create my own melodramas <,,> laughs well if you're not going to do it who is <,> then well with some people it just happens to them like my MUM just misfortune and adventure <.>sh seek her out <,> you know <,,><&>4 yeah but she must be feeling a bit <.>s <,> anti climactic <&>pronounced as anti climatic recently though <{><[>nothing much <.>has yeah <[>working in the the library i think she really likes <.>it <{><[>she just you know like <.>she's hopefully like she's got more hours now she works from twelve to eight thirty tut and then soon she'll be able to apply for one of those positions where they'll train you to be a librarian <[>mm mm and send her to <{><[>varsity and and pay for that yeah soonish like i think you have to be in that position for a while <[>she will be able to do that now well she's fulltime now isn't she well i don't know i <.>don't <{1><[1>i mean according to her HOURS she should be <{2><[2>but <.>then <{3><[3><.>maybe i don't know what the definition of fulltime is <,> <{4><[4>no she's only permanent staff that's right she's only permanent staff from four thirty to eight thirty but these extra hours she's working <.>she's it's just a contract until someone comes back or something <[1>voc <[2>mm <[3>they didn't recognise her as such <[4>mm <&>12:00 mm so <{1><[1>word word no but um she wrote this letter to the um librarian or whatever <{2><[2>suggesting all these new improvements they can make in the library and they got all excited and they said oh how nice it is that people are interested and they <.>t had some meeting and she had to present her ideas and everyone was really pleased all the council people <{3><[3>and that so it was really good <[1>is this in word <[2>mm <[3>mm <&>12:53
