n z c e <,,> yeah oh <,,><&>3 it was much better down there too oh shit bloody good one yeah pub crawls real ones laughs <{><[>do you not have them here <[>laughs <,,> too much <{><[>work <[>there was one in what um <,,> in the first term? or the end of the second term the kayak club was going to have one down the avon river through town speaking of that i went and saw brian today <{1><[1>down in the um h v lab <{2><[2>they've got pairs whole lot of rafts there that he was blowing up checking for leaks <{3><[3>and patching them up <,> it was quite i think must be him and the postgrads going white water rafting or something <[1>yeah <[2>yeah <[3>oh right oh yeah mm <,,><&>3 tut getting right into it yeah john when i was talking to john the other day he's into kayaking eh he says oh yeah we're going to go for a kayak <,,> don't know what river the motu or somewhere i suppose out that way yeah yeah it's quite good <&>2:00 MOTU laughter where is that motu as far as i say and i'm not a very good maori isn't that where we were supposed to put a dam on our assignments on the motu <{><[>probably was yeah <[>yeah laughs where is it between <,> te apo and the coast which coast the one by waihau bay <,> east coast oh <,,><&>3 <.>by <.>by and it's a maori word laughter opotiki oh yeah i know where <{><[>opotiki is <[>below opotiki <,> te kaha <,,><&>4 it might even be below te kaha where's that below opotiki laughter oh i see opotiki te <.>hak te <.>ka te kaha and then <,,><&>4 and then waihau bay and <,,><&>3 you've got cape <&>3:00 runaway <,> all round that area <,> rock point <,,> oh pete ferry he's had a haircut laughs looks like someone put a bowl on there <{1><[1>laughs and got a number four comb and just went round underneath the bowl <{2><[2>laughs <[1>laughs <[2>oh right apparently keith's baby's got more hair then you laughs thank you very much <{><[>laughs <[>laughs i didn't say it laughs might be <{><[>word <,> i think i've been pulling mine out the last couple of weeks <,,><&>3 <[>laughs i don't think i've lost any more i'm going grey i looked the other day in the mirror and i'm going grey up here now <{><[>probably stress <[>too much stress <,,><&>3 laughs a year from now and it'll be what it'll be all over yeah <,,> game over <,,> i'm pretty keen on that masters eh <,,> there's a management one i'm talking about my hair being grey not the <&>4:00 oh laughter yeah i i am too actually i don't know the money's good though eh yeah that's right helps in life <,,> but yeah might be different feeling by then but it'd be bloody useful to have what hair <{><[>laughs <[>laughs <[>that too <,,><&>3 so what what <{1><[1>did <.>y what did your car cost about two <{2><[2>two four <[1>voc <[2>two <,,> two hundred and something mm what did they do just clean the injectors clean the injectors new spark plugs <,> compression test <,> um checked all the high tension leads and <,,> changed the timing changed the advance on the did they <{><[><.>ch chuck it on the um <[>word word <{><[>word <[>word yeah c o two emissions and word yeah they did actually do quite a lot eh so they bloody should they said the spark plugs were down you know the other ones were actually going <{><[>down a bit <[>laughs cigarettes is it <,,> <&>5:00 i think it probably was that explains it <,,><&>4 wasn't much people at the library tonight no <,,> in fact it was bloody quiet <,,><&>3 oh apparently down down at um <,> oh down at church corner the pub the bush yeah yeah you take the exam paper um <{><[>in yeah they it's on tonight i think <[>yeah you get a free beer for every exam paper is it only tonight well <{><[>no i know it's on tonight but <[>cos you'd really oh they might carry on with it after exams as well <,> in fact i'm sure they will cos it drew so many people last time apparently i thought it was all days during exams oh could be could well be <,,> get ripped after each exam then yeah <{><[>it covers your exemption yeah get the first one and then you get a bloody skinful and go home <,> <[>recover laughs i can't see many people doing that until the end <,> i said pete's got his exam on friday <,> and i said laughs i said and er <&>6:00 thursday afternoon we're gonna be laughing at you laughs <,,> he's he's got to be word yeah he's booking in on this flight home for the weekend quarter of an hour after the exam finishes laughs that leaves it a bit close just going home for the weekend is he mm <,> cos he starts on er monday oh going down south no <{><[>he's going up to wellington for the weekend and then back down here on monday <[>or up keith <{><[>said is he going out with some woman from up there still or something or <[>voc don't know oh i don't think so cos all his family's down south eh yeah yeah <,> oh voc oh i suppose all his friends from the d s i r and all that are up there mm <,,><&>5 mm <&>7:00 <,,><&>15 i done <.>economic no economics today you not done any study at all read about twenty pages of my notes and that's it mm <,,> jeez i was so TIRED this afternoon mm and i got a bit of a baking in the sun laughs <,,> oh it could've been good then but i wasn't gonna miss the sun <,> you got nothing till tuesday eh <,> cos i've got bloody electronics first yeah <,> yeah i'm just getting into power systems <,> i spent AGES trying to figure out <,> oh there's some oh that's right it was <,> when you're doing the <,> um tut iterative type calculation of the end end voltage <,> you know where you assume it's one and then you calculate <{><[>word and then you go back yes yeah because <.>the there's one of those in the ninety one exam <,> and um it took me AGES to figure it out and i suddenly realised at the end that when you <&>8:00 calculate n to a power you have to conjugate the current <,,> <[>oh i've word lab we did yeah yeah <{><[>keith rang me up cos we had that problem in the lab <[>yeah yeah <,> yeah and i finally sussed it out but <{><[>i spent ages doing it <,,><&>3 but that's okay the more i can sort out like that now it'd be better because some of those questions were quite tricky <,> you got to really think about them just to make sure you don't do any cock ups <[>mm mm <,,> yeah <,,> i wish my calculator could multiply in um <,> polar notation you know that sort of thing won't do it <,,> by putting the <{1><[1>complex mode in you have to do it in <{2><[2>um rectangular yeah <[1>mm <[2>rectangular my um <,> old one was like that <,> you could put it enter it in polar mm but if you entered it in polar <,> it actually thought it was rectangular did its thing on it oh and then the answer would make no <{1><[1>sense so you had to actually make sure you put it into <.>recta put it in polar and then move it to rectangular did <{2><[2>your stuff <&>9:00 <[1>mm <[2>mm mm so you basically use rectangular everywhere mm but this one now doesn't matter eh just does it no matter <{><[>where you are <[>cos you yeah convert <{><[>to word anything and <[>pretty handy cos yeah with my one you might as well just go ahead and do it manually anyway <,> just convert to and from using your rectangular polar coordinate conversions rather than <{1><[1>put it into rectangular every time and then do the multiplications um by the time you type it in and <,> do it again cos you left some brackets out or <{2><[2>something <[1>right <[2>to do mine i just put in one number and then put in the next number mhm and then just go boom and vector it and then it puts it in and word oh yeah well you can call it a <.>vec you can either do a vector or a word percentage if you want oh yeah <,> but if you're in angle mode it takes the second bit cos the angle if not it thinks the second one is just a joke because the um rectangle wonder if it's clever enough to do the um conjugate yep is it oh no it wouldn't cos it's only peculiar to power i'd say if we had to do that yeah it has a conjugate button you push conjugate and it just <{><[>conjugates that second thing for you <[>oh okay mhm oh that's okay then yeah <,> mm <&>10:00 mm and the old one could do that too yeah <{><[>no my one can do that <[>just changes the sin er on the second number mm by pushing it <{><[>you get that <[>oh i wonder if mine does that have to check it's gonna be easier cos otherwise you got to just retype it all in mm <,,> mm but i can do <.>th do an unassemble and go voc voc and takes it back to two normal numbers then you can convert one of them which is the bottom one anyway yeah just push plus minus then voc voc assemble it again and it voc it back in <,,> aha there's no doubt they're hot machines eh <,> mm but they are hard to use <,,> like now if you were to get one now you'd play with it all through the summer holidays to figure out how to <.>u work it sort of thing mm big learning curves yeah i think i'd rather stick with a flasher casio or something <,> word all the bells and whistles much easier eh much well <,> yeah <,> <{><[>at this stage laughs at this stage <[>more normal yeah <&>11:00 yeah <,,><&>3 but i was quite lucky in some respects i sort of grew into it slowly when i got that first one that one that opened up like a <{1><[1>book word <,> i <.>t i had trouble turning the bloody thing on <{2><[2>the day i got it we were over in the we were in the states and john wanted a flash calculator or something and he was still here at university and <,,> we were over there with the oldies and i think we were looking around we actually saw these hewlett packards there and then when we got back we sort of said no we couldn't find anything and the ones they all they all looked pretty expensive for what they were you know they were <.>big better to buy them in new zealand and he said oh it's okay my <.>m mate's just got one of these hewlett packards <{3><[3>and i'm gonna get one of those <,> said it was two hundred and eighty dollars or something and that's a special student price sort of thing yeah <[1>laughs <[2>laughs <[3>word did you buy it <,,> and he told me it was real good real good so i thought oh i'd better have one laughs so i got one and voc i'd never seen one before he just sent me this thing right here it <{><[>is this is it and it come in its box <[>laughs christ laughs oh yeah turning it on was hard enough turning it off <&>12:00 was worse laughs clearing the screen was just oh it was all over the place oh yeah <,,><&>9 but that was in the days i think i got that before i really ever had to use complex numbers very much yeah just at the start of it <,,><&>4 yeah we had to do word complex numbers manually technicians did it the first stage when we had to show them had to go between and you know show by was it dividing or something when you put it over one then you conjugate it chuck it out the right and have two lots of them and mhm do your stuff and all that tut show them that we could knew how to do it <,,><&>3 but they suggested you check a calculator make sure you had the answer right yeah <&>13:00 <,,><&>3 i'm gonna have to go up to word at tusker's bar i'm buying where tusker's it's a new one that's opened up on word road <,,> there's a thing right there for it <,> that's the one laughs oh is this what you were <.>talk yeah that's that one you were talking about yeah you get all your entrees and all that sort of <{><[>little nibbles <[>oh quite nice little place mm <,,><&>6 tut oh pete wanted to go to that um thing on communications the other night that that guy who's doing <,> you know that speech on well the talk <{><[>on friday night friday week <[>oh oh right yeah yeah he wanted to go to that when i when i said i was going <,> reminded him and he he was going to be in wellington he got a bit annoyed jeremy going is he i don't know probably would <&>14:00 <,,><&>6 bound to be eh <,,><&>4 word yeah oh well i think so yeah <,> yeah think so <,,><&>10 i hope these bloody girls do the dishes laughs yeah laughs no exams oh not on saturday and sunday voc i mean they haven't had any today or i don't know don't know <,> oh my finger's stuck digging around there this afternoon eh just something down in there oh <{><[>in your nail <[>and it's all swelling up <,,> i made a hell of a mess of it this afternoon but i couldn't get it thought i word at one stage i <,> was like this and i was going in with this little safety pin thing yep word i must have hit whatever it was in there cos laughs woo hoo <,> it brought tears to my eyes <{><[>laughs still didn't get it and then after that blood started coming out and i couldn't see what i was doing and i'd <[>laughs mhm wipe it off voc quick look then it'd just come out again voc <,,><&>11 different person now than i was a couple of days ago though laughs <,,> forgotten everything eh <,> it's that bloody sun laughs <&>16:00
