was expecting it to be a lot different you know it to be like it's such a commercial place you know you think oh wow this is going to be so something fantastic but i mean <,> <{1><[1>first eh first couple of day i was just like i was quite disappointed it wasn't like anything i expect it to be but in couple of days you sort of get into the rhythm of thing <{2><[2>and you're just sort of wow you know this is great because you're doing your own thing that you enjoy with the <{3><[3>person that you <[1>so <[2>mm <[3>you've got to get used to it first <{><[>and know where basically everything is <[>yeah yeah yeah and then <.>o then it's a lot better <{><[>but <[>yeah i don't know i just i just <&>2:00 expected a lot lot of thing happening but it was just but you're lucky cos you <{><[>can speak the language though do you need to be able to speak it <[><.>b what oh anywhere you go well in in bali yeah you don't you know tut the trouble about being asian is when i went to hong kong they exPECT you to be able to speak chinese <{><[>and being new zealander knowing that you don't really want to open <.>mou open your mouth cos like you know word my accent reform <[>yeah yeah it's like having a accent mm and they're <{><[>expecting you to talk <[>no well when i went back home it was really funny because they thought i was france laughs french yeah <{1><[1>yeah they thought i was french yeah it was really funny word eh and they were speaking to me all this language in front of me right in you know my own language and of course i understand <{2><[2>what they're saying <[1>really <[2>why did they think that you were <{><[>french <[>i don't know it was really funny i was just sitting there laughing my head off you know word because i could understand what they were saying you know yeah cos i can speak it and it was so hilarious laughs it was fun <,,><&>4 nah cos when you go i mean it's quite different because i thought oh yeah i'm just one of them but when you actually go back there you realise you're really different from them you know mm you need a comparison though when you're <&>3:00 going over to a different country don't you mm you need it word <,> is it expensive though <,> <{><[>bali bali expensive <[>what nah nah quite cheap i would love to experience bangkok to tell you the truth yeah it's an <{><[>exciting lively place <[>i know <.>it yeah did you see the documentary the documentary? yeah it that was about oh you should have seen it it was about um children child prostitution in thailand it's <{><[>disgusting <[>i saw that it is <.>so i saw a little <{><[>bit of it <[><.>i <.>i it's so appalling that was really bad yeah i can't believe they would send little kids out at a little age oh they <.>s yeah they sell them how old were they well <.>tha what <.>hap well it's between the age of five i think you know and onward they <.>s they sell them cos the parent <{><[>is so poor and the you know the thing like that and then um so they never see the kid again and <.>the and they put them into prostitution the people who bought them <[>yeah voc say for five hundred dollars and that and like this one <.>ga er no one one girl she she was bought you know for five hundred dollars <,> <{><[><.>and <[>just five hundred <.>doll is <{><[>that new zealand money <[>mm and <.>it <&>4:00 um no their one i think <{1><[1>it might have been or something yeah it was i mean it's next to <{2><[2>nothing and then they <[1>thailand <[2>how <.>can you know what i reckon having sex over there would be like you'd do it get <{><[>pregnant and sell the baby so you can have money <[><.>well well the thing about er the thing about over there is um a lot of people go there tourists you know from yeah western countries just to have um sex with kids because you know cos they can't do it anywhere else mm and it's quite a big you know so that's why <{1><[1>they word yeah so there's this <{2><[2>there's this child <[1>the thrill i suppose eh <[2>i think that's really sick well this child actually died of aids you know so it's <{><[>um <[>how old she was only thirteen so there's a lot of kid out there in thailand that is actually you know well i mean i saw i can't <.>rememb did i see it with you that movie about the red light no about thai the thai ones themselves with red lights on no yeah <.>they at the moment they're trying to illegalise receiving that you know if you get caught because it's <{1><[1>it's still illegal <{2><[2>there <[1>but the <.>thing <[2>but the thing is they <.>don't oh is it illegal it's illegal i mean it's not you know there's i mean any prostitution across the board is illegal but i mean especially for a <&>5:00 child you know yeah child prostitution but they're making it um <,> voc trying to say that if you get caught there right you know any western country they should be word cos they can't touch them because they're not in their country and they're not <{1><[1>according to the law of the country so that when they come over <{2><[2><.>to back to their countries just to get charged <[1>yeah <[2>but is it hey chi how can it be a known thing <,> and people know it's happening because you've got to be caught in the act <{><[>to be able to charge them yeah <[>caught in the act really yeah you can't just you know and they do it you know through different thing different time you know during the night so i mean you can't just go up to people and charge them without having any you know <,> you got to <{><[>catch them in the act <[>but the thing is um they said in the movie that it was a <.>l it <.>w it was like a <.>doc it was actually a documentary mm and they said well i don't actually enjoy doing it i mean i want to get out of it <{1><[1>but there's that's the easiest money i mean you don't want to work a nine to five job when you can be <{2><[2>making easy <.>mo well it's not so much easy money but <{3><[3>good money <[1>mm <[2>mm <[3>but i mean i can't i can't understand what's the you know what the attraction is in a <.>ch child really you know i really don't <&>6:00 understand it there's some there's some sicko out there really is yeah i know <,> incredible it's more like a thrill though isn't it well who knows laughs word <,,> you getting hot? no just right i'm sitting in your sun <{><[>that's why <[>laughs one of my legs is getting <,> <{><[>brown mm i quite like getting brown actually <[>brown word getting probably just get brown from there to there laughs oh can't wear any shorts last time i came back from holiday my face was peeling <,> NOT very nice what's the difference between hawaii and bali then which one would you like to go the more to <{><[>hawaii <.>is that's a bit further away isn't it <[>oh well <.>hawa well it's basically about the same distance mm flying out same <.>distant it's just that hawaii's more commercialised not that bali i'm not saying that bali isn't as commercialised but it's more a lot more people because a <.>lo i think in some way hawaii's much more <.>kn more <&>7:00 known than bali is you know sort of thing yeah as bali's more like um trying to get away from <.>y you know and having bit bit of peace and quiet and <{><[>not so <[>i would love to sit there and have the cocktails <{><[>and have the fresh cocktails every word <[>yeah and <.>a if you yeah i think i think i mean i think personally i would have much more fun in BALI because there's not so many people because when i went to hawaii i just was amazed at you know how many people are asian because all the japanese <{><[>word yeah yeah it's um it's an asian because it's the closest holiday spot for the japanese and chinese to go to <[>hawaii was asian yeah and they go they go there and <,> and there's millions and millions of them and it's all surrounded by high touristy <{><[>hotels <[>if they look like that you'd blend in more so yeah but bali's more of an <.>asia er bali's just as asian isn't <{><[>it <[>yeah but they don't have as many people you know er you know you can still go and find your isolated spot <{1><[1>you go you go there you head out to the beach at waikiki and you go say at nine oclock you know however time and you'd be lucky to find a spot you know you got to be really walking down <{2><[2>for miles yeah oh <.>n in the morning and you know <[1>yeah <[2>nine oclock in um evening or <.>ni morning really it's yeah it's just like people go there you know they clap out on the beach and <&>8:00 they stay there the whole day you know and it's just amazing i mean like a normal day for us was you know we get up have breakfast you know in the hotel and that and then we go <,> i mean like we usually so do <.>dif do a different thing in the morning like <{1><[1>we go and do snorkelling in the morning say and then come back in the afternoon twelve oclock and you know one oclock in the day or later and we just spend the rest of the afternoon in the beach until <{2><[2>dinner time yeah you know just you know playing in the water you know and just yeah that's it and then we go to dinner say six you know six oclock so they always do that you know they're just they're just crazy er for the sun and the beach and that's about it say and do watery <{3><[3>water sport <[1>oh yeah <[2>vegetating <[3>what else though i mean come on it's one of those places <{><[>that <.>you <[>but it's an incredible place to see too though there's a lot of um you get away from yeah cos like when you went snorkelling there's it's just beautiful one of the best you know clear water yeah coral <{><[>reef yeah and even <[>clear water really and you can see all the fishes yeah well <.>w i went to this when i went snorkelling there was this huge i mean we're talking about the size of THIS this long fish right <{1><[1>and you feed them you <{2><[2>know <[1>yeah <[2>that's not little that's big yeah i that's what i mean they all huge and you know <&>9:00 tropical fish yeah they were all kind of fish cos like <{1><[1>um we we this is after we went <{2><[2>snorkelling <[1>oh <[2>i wish there was a underwater camera yeah so did i i wish we did too and we started feeding the fish and they come to you the fish actually come <{><[>to you when you say <[>oh do they <.>d do they give oh you had to buy some fish food <{><[>didn't you you wrote in your letter <[>yeah yeah yeah i did have to <{1><[1>and you <.>just cos if <.>you oh just yeah it's incredible cos i i just standing where cos er me and john we just stand in the water you know and just start feeding the fish cos john went inhales oh fish boy come on and i was and i just thought oh no no i don't want to do this you know and so he starts feeding it and the fish just came to you and it was <{2><[2>incredible and you <.>s you know i i actually touched two of them you know <{3><[3>yeah and they all were swim all around you you know <{4><[4><.>al all all round your legs and that <[1>all of word friends kept on going can we go word laughs <[2>yeah <[3>you touched them <[4>oh was the water quite deep but you guys were snorkelling though no but this is after the snorkel we just went and you know you just went in and just yeah <,> cos you <.>couldn't i couldn't snorkel and feed the fish at the same time i mean i never <{><[>done snorkelling before so and john had to hold my hand while we were you know we were snorkelling cos i thought you know i can't swim for the life of me and i thought i thought i don't want to die here laughs <[>that's true yeah oh it was <{><[>so funny <&>10:00 <[>word <,> so you can talk about an experience that you've actually gone to a place that's very different yeah <,> well i i'm quite lucky though because i been got to travel got to travel around quite a bit you have actually yeah because <.>my well my father's a diplomat so you know given given me a chance even though word that's all and we travel around a little bit yeah true <,> but yeah i'd like to go somewhere totally different though <{><[>radically radically different africa would be nice <[>like where africa <{><[>my friend just came back from india <[>yeah yeah <.>just she had all these really different yeah you know being new zealander and going over to <{><[>india <[>yeah yeah that <{><[>would be totally <[>and and <.>she laughs and she had these gorgeous pictures of the beach and beautiful <{1><[1>sunsets you know how you just look at pictures in a picture frame <{2><[2>well this one's quite different <[1>yeah yeah yeah <[2>yeah yeah but just think somewhere totally radical you know like hawaii and bali are fine for beachy thing and nice watery sport and nice <{><[>relaxation <[>but you want completely different <{><[>culture everything <[>yeah like my girl friend went to africa to do the safari you know word <&>11:00 how about europe i always wanted to go to europe you know paula's going isn't she no she's yeah she's going to australia first though and then to europe my girlfriend's going next <.>y beginning of next year i wouldn't mind going to china i know i i know that i'm chinese <,> but going to china is a is very different i mean it's part of my background <{><[>i suppose <[>oh you should i think you should i mean that's one of the reason why i try to go home quite a bit you know mm i mean to keep <.>i keep in with family i mean as well as you know you got to know your own culture understand it you know <{><[>you're part of it as well <[>mm that's <{><[>true <[>you don't want to lose your culture you don't want to lose <{><[>it <[>no especially cos
