<&>Wellington Corpus of Spoken New Zealand English Version One <&>Copyright 1998 School of Linguistics & Applied Language Studies <&>Victoria University of Wellington <&>side one <&>0:07 i sat there going i don't believe this <{><[>and then when they picked up the scissors i go YES now what are they gonna do are they going to like cut up the shirts <[>yeah i was waiting for them to cut the shirts <{><[>word <[>SAME i thought i thought no they're doing what how <.>many eight or nine performances yeah they're not gonna go through twenty seven shirts no but i thought it was REALly good <{><[><.>it <.>every everyone in the audience was just in utter hysterics it was so good <,> <[>OH it was yeah <.>but but um <,> yeah <.>i i just found that <.>qu oh god that was just so funny i was dying to tell you about it yesterday <,,> i like almost said iron your own fucking shirts to you but i didn't because i thought no yeah i thought that and the period one were really good and the end one was quite funny as well the mop one <&>1:00 inhales OH yeah um the one that was um SAdie the cleaning LAdy <{><[>word <[>SHE did it really well that's my friend hayley oh is that your friend yeah it's hayley from flat fifteen oh and she played the piano all the way through apparently she <.>wrote she sort of arranged the music and everything <.>r do they <.>r who wrote it they all wrote it <{><[>themselves <[>they all wrote it themselves wow quite impressive really isn't it well it's like all from their own experiences <,> you know <.>e everything i mean it's not like directly obvious i was walking down the street and this guy tried to rape me in a bus shelter <{><[>yeah <[>it's not like probably just their thoughts and feelings and things i mean but that probably has happened to one of them so they've written a script around it <,,> sort of become a lot closer i'd say after that yeah definitely but no it <.>was it went on for longer than i expected it was <{><[>quite long <[>what time did it finish <{><[>half ten? <[>it was about mm about that <&>2:00 yeah cos natalie was worried about her sister getting back cause i think they'd mentioned they expected it to go that late oh <&>six seconds untranscribable what did they do while they waiting did they go too no um no i think her sister does boxing on tuesday nights anyway so <{><[>heather <.>does heather <[>what viv heather so it's not a problem like she generally stays on tuesdays till ten or so i don't <{><[><.>think <[>they can wait half an hour for natalie for once i guess yeah <,,> yeah oh we saw anne there as well she was supposed to be going with um one of her friends but she never turned up <{><[>so she came with us <[>what a bummer <,> mm it was quite good but you know what i mean about i said like <,> that i could identify with it but i don't think the guys could as much oh hell no i <.>didn <.>i i really wouldn't mind seeing john's expression at some of those <{><[>things <[>yeah <,> yeah definitely but no they couldn't identify with any of it i don't think no <,,> <&>3:00 mm because it's all foreign to them but <,> i don't know but I have felt that way so many times for some of the <{><[>things <[>oh yeah definitely PAT was really good laughs yeah i know her as well <{><[>sandy <[>do you she's really cool yeah <.>sh i <.>did she's in my psych lab word she's a friend of my cousin she's a friend of your cousin's yeah <,,><&>4 but yeah she was <.>i i LOVED the last one <,,> oh about the running <{><[>over <.>the <[>when she left him in makara and then she ran over the guy and left him laughs yes that was quite funny oh that was classic <.>who do you know who was acting as barbie no i don't know either she was good though she was REALly <{><[>good <[>she MOVED so well to be able to <.>s to stand there in the same position the whole it was at least three quarters of that play it was just incredible <,> you CAN do it I want to know how she walked like that in those heels <&>4:00 she must have practised heaps eh you'd have to they were bloody high things laughs six <{><[>inch heels <[><.>i <.>id i doubt whether i'd even be able to walk in them let alone walk like that that yeah definitely cos that's a lot of control <,,> what else was really good oh the job one was quite good too oh <.>th <{><[>the breeding programme laughs <[>word quite classic really yeah oh our dinner's going on for saturday night possibly saturday right i THINK well <.>that's i said that i don't mind friday or saturday and i think jen and pete decided on saturday mm i don't know i don't know whether jen wants to do it or not truthfully <,> i don't know cos i mean we won't have to have it this saturday yeah like when natalie was saying we don't have to <&>5:00 have it jen was saying yeah well but <.>she's jen's right i mean if we don't have it we'll never have it yeah it just <.>get will get to that stage where that's what will happen we went into this word <,> i don't know <,,> it's just like on monday when i gave her the invitation from petra to the twenty first and um she said oh i don't know if i can come we're cooking dinner for peter and i thought WHAT? it's not his birthday or anything and it sounded like a big group effort JUST for peter and i thought what the HELL she didn't bother saying that it was you and her cooking dinner for <{><[>pete and john <[>pete and john oh right just um cooking it for <{><[>peter and i thought well i'm not cooking anything JUST for peter for no reason at all <[>peter laughs she didn't bother to tell me that i wasn't <.>c that it wasn't me that was cooking it was you lot <&>sighs she's <.>very oh she's so much happier with peter than she ever was with tony you can just see it <.>sh yeah she's so <&>6:00 they're just that <{><[>kind of proper couple <[>relaxed yeah <.>it's it's <.>just <.>f <.>i there was always that tension between her and tony it was like you know don't come too close but mm her and pete are just laughs it's really cool it is great and i think anthony i don't know how he'll i don't know cos he seems to think that you know <{><[><.>he <[>one day jen will come back to her senses and realise he's the one <{><[>or something laughs <[>yeah well he seems to think he seems to think that most of the time their relationship was really good and went really well yeah even at the beginning i know jenny never used to say a hell of a lot about him and stuff do you know what i mean she was always mm putting him down in places and stuff yeah but you never hear that about <{><[>peter <[>she was never very sure about it it was like <{><[><.>sh <.>sh i think she always felt <,> slightly uncomfortable especially sort of physical <[>nah i think so i <.>think i <.>think i <.>think i think basically she thought if she got too close he would always just want sex mm cos that's what he was used to getting you know what i mean so i don't know but yeah her and <.>p her and peter are really good that's good then <&>7:00 we were organising a ski <.>trip it sounds okay cos <.>pete <.>pete if you're not going are you gonna go yeah i probably will because it <.>sounds peter i <.>wasn gonna go oh god but i think peter's not gonna ski so cos of his back is that why i don't know would it be <.>i <,> i thought he skied <,> i thought he <.>d no i don't think he's skied before actually <{><[>oh <[>i think he's just a learner so i think he's not skiing so that means like i'll be able to spend it with him if you know if everyone else has gone skiing for the day yeah are you definitely not going i REALLY don't know <{><[>yeah <[>yeah <.>i <.>i you know <{><[>i'd really like to go though <[>it'd be great if you did cos we're organising cabins guess who got the twosome by themselves <,,><&>3 kate and tony of course laughs we've put the couples together so jen <.>and jen and pete and um jeremy and sue and um natalie and myself and laughs you sound like you're a oh that's <{><[>really hard case <[>and ricks and um hamish and he can change it again but <{><[>word <[>yeah um sue <.>and and pete were sort of talking about that just before two seven one cause i like got there really early like all the first years hadn't come all the med ints hadn't <{><[>come up hadn't come up from zoo <,> i don't know <[>god what's happened here joanne oh cos they have zoo at eight that's riDICulous yeah so they all come in this big mass anyway i got there and dumped my bags off and wandered up to the third floor tut and um <,> <{><[>came <.>back <[>now why would you go up to the third floor joanne laughs well <{><[>anyway laughs <[>and anyway and anyway and um anyway um yeah and i got back and they were just sort of arriving and they talked about it a bit before but i was trying to find my notes desperately in case doctor young asked me what we'd done last time and i couldn't remember so you <.>didn't what were they saying something about oh the <.>th they'd put like the couples together <,> and stuff you know were they happy or not yeah although um <,> think sue said something <&>9:00 about well we'll probably turn up or pete i don't know i can't remember who <.>it so <.>b <.>pr <&>unable to spit the word out <{><[>probably turn out to be that um <,> it'll turn out to be a cabin of people that go to bed at ten and then people that don't go to bed at all <,> you know what i mean <[>laughs mm <.>oh yeah <,,> yeah well i <.>probably if i've got hamish in my cabin we won't be getting to bed at all probably <{><[>not <[>not which is fine cos i'm not skiing so it doesn't matter i don't have to get up like UP early in the morning see i just i don't want to be with the skiers i don't want to be <.>woke they'll probably wake us up ANYway but yeah tony and his bloody alarm oh he can have that he can have kate too laughs yeah those two are by themselves they are staying by themselves <{><[>i'm not i'm not having a cabin with tony if i go <[>yeah no <,> and we <.>d well we decided that we that we'd do cooking by cabins <,> so one cabin would cook <.>one for one night and another cabin would dry the dishes and <.>the the cabin that <&>10:00 hadn't done anything that day would do the lunches and breakfast we haven't sorted out what we're <{><[>taking yet natalie suggested porridge i don't know how many people like porridge <[>mm and i don't know <,,> you've got to make it too you can't just like open a box and eat it i'm a weetbix person myself <{><[>personally <[>mm i think it might just be easier to have cereal <{1><[1>but remember last year everyone sort of clamouring <.>t oh mm can just see it but if i'm not going skiing it doesn't matter cos i'll just potter around cos hopefully if pete is not going and that means we'll have a car that's not <{2><[2>that's not going anywhere <[1>yeah <[2>yeah what days are people going up what skiing yeah no idea see it all depends on the weather cos if it's a really good day saturday we'll probably go up saturday <&>10:43
