shopping oh what did you get groceries <,> why am i disappointed laughs no i was going to buy jonathan's christmas present actually but working till five you sort of forget that you know everything's closed oh i've still got a <.>hundred i've <.>still i've still got a hundred and twenty dollars pay in my wallet from tuesday claps i haven't had time to go to the bank no cos it's never open yes stupid thing mm and it's always rotten they always shut five minutes before you think they're going to yeah well they shut at i think they shut at four thirty anyway even trust bank does <&>5:00 yeah it's not <{><[>fair what was i going to <.>s yes what's that can i ask what jonathan's getting for his <.>birth chrissie <[>yeah voc oh well we sort of we decided not to get anything anything decent nothing over ten dollars so i found i found this cartoon book in oh yeah in um in london bookshops which was quite amusing it was something <,,> something to the effect of sort of what things to do with useless men snorts and i found it highly amusing so how degrading and it was nine ninety five so jolly good but i never quite made it i could actually if i could be bothered i could go down to the one in cuba street and jo could give me a discount on it but i don't think it's worth the walk no no well i got my father's christmas present today quite by <{1><[1>accident i wandered into the student bookshop and there was somebody there i know started putting a whole lot of books in my hand <{2><[2>and saying buy these buy these um i mentioned i was browsing for christmas shopping and he suddenly got excited just because his wife works there he seems to <&>6:00 want to sell everybody something <[1>oh yeah what was it <[2>laughs yeah laughs anyway <.>i <.>i well i guess it's what they get paid for well HE doesn't or perhaps he does then i could say something REALLY kinky about that but anyway word well he sells them he sells a number of books for various word and lots of anyway er aside from that <.>he he <.>wai he had about five books on me by the time he'd finished and <{1><[1>i said well this one was <{2><[2>roddy clark <[1>yeah <[2>fiction ones or yeah fiction ones and some you know weird feminist stuff <{1><[1>word <.>do <.>does doesn't doesn't sound like my family somehow but he had roddy clarke um the barrytown trilogy which i'd looked at and thought looked vaguely interesting <{2><[2>and and i sort of said well would this be <{3><[3>good for a father and he said yeah it's got a good father character in it <[1>oh god wisc one oh one <[2>mm <[3>laughs oh yeah and as mister doyle's just won the booker prize for another book i thought it would probably be a good idea and it solves my father because he's terrible to shop for as long as he likes it and hasn't read it i don't yeah should be okay <.>i i'm feeling confident on that <{><[>score <[>oh that's good <&>7:00 it's nice to feel you've got something worthwhile <,> <{><[>i don't buy books i think it's a waste of money personally <[>word well i don't buy books for myself but um <{><[>well <[>i don't buy them for anyone yes <.>tha <.>i i've always sort of felt that in some ways well i always think you <{><[>know what's <.>th <[>you can get them get them in libraries yeah precisely that's why <.>the that's why we have libraries <{><[><.>and and <.>i mean unless you're absolutely DESperate to read the you know the LAtest and the BEST and the <[>yeah although it's quite <{><[>nice to have a well stocked bookshelf <[>word that's what jonathan reckons i mean all those you you know all those books on his shelf this year they were all for show basically <{1><[1>laughs you know look what i've got on my bookshelf <{2><[2>all those shakespeare plays and <[1>yeah word some of them <[2>yeah i know i have a very classically oriented bookshelf one full of pressies i've got i've actually got quite a few linguistics books now because this in this german conversation class i went to there was this old guy who did linguistics at york university years and years ago and he was tidying up his house and he wanted to get rid of these linguistics books so he donated them <&>8:00 really <{><[>word <[>yeah and some of them are useful and some of them are sort of NOT useful yeah word but <.>i they're looking fairly good oh that's good at <.>least luckily my father is one of these people who actually likes to OWN books so oh right so i'm safe yes my mother is much more into libraries <{><[>than my father is <[>laughs laughs yeah no so i went shopping and it was exCIting what did <.>you <.>wh where did you shop er new world and is it is it a fabulous experience i have shopped at new world have you it is a fabulous experience isn't it mm yes no i actually only <.>ma i managed to spend only thirty dollars i'm going again on monday oh wow <{><[>you'll look forward to that with your flatmates <[>thankfully word yes oh just one of them the other one's busy but it's graduation week and oh of course have you organised your graduation yet er sort of i mean i know where i'm taking my parents i've told them i've booked in but i <&>9:00 haven't actually <{1><[1>as yet haven't found the time but it should be fun and on the night before hand we're having a dinner party round at the flat with er <{2><[2>the graduands as we're known <[1>laughs <[2>oh yeah are you <.>all you're all graduating are you yeah right so we thought that would be nice there are four of us graduating and what with one person one one partner liz johnson will be there oh god will she yes um oh but hang on <.>sh she's oh is thomas still counted as part of the flat is he well he's coming down for graduation he's not staying with us but he'll be <{1><[1>he'll be there with his partner and yes so that's five of us for the main meal and then <.>some somebody is fronting up about eight oclock <{2><[2>for dessert <[1>oh right <[2>laughs oh that's nice of them word that's a friend who's coming down word a friend of anna who's coming down from new plymouth oh right so that should be fun so <{><[>word <[>mm oh well say <.>i if you see liz tell her i did get <&>10:00 her change of address card and i will write eventually mm right i will tell liz that <.>you i don't know why she sent it to me i mean this is like having not written ALL year or most of last year and i went home in october and found the change of address card on my desk yay <{1><[1>yep well i'll i'll tell her that <.>you you've got the <{2><[2>change of address card and that er you're <.>s seriously considering writing <{3><[3>to her in the near future <[1>laughs <[2>mm <[3>laughs yeah just don't tell her <.>it's clears throat i have several higher priorities oh i'm sure yes i did start writing to kylie oh good well <{><[>done i mean these <.>are these sort of <.>m letters which sort of um are written over many days are usually quite interesting <[>mm mm well i thought i was doing quite well i got up to three pages <{><[>and then it was ten oclock <[>well done oh well there we are then and then i had to go and ring jonathan and give him final instructions final instructions yes two fifty a m at newmans god how awful <{><[>laughs <[>i know coughs it should be an exciting dinner party as we <&>11:00 sort of thomas left on sort of shaky ground oh right <.>when how long ago did he leave <{><[>was it like when varsity finished <[>er <.>about yeah about a month ago now yeah um er you see sort of problems in the <{1><[1>flat arose when i discovered i hadn't really <{2><[2><.>st <[1>laughs <[2>you mean you weren't the only problem in the flat jason oh god no um er i discovered halfway through the year that people <{><[>well anna doesn't actually LIKE thomas <[>yes oh and this this <.>se why hang on WHY were you flatting with thomas then <{><[>or is that a silly question <[>i'm not sure er i'm not sure why but i'm sort of sort of yes well andrew just sort of had nothing to say to thomas at the beginning of the year and <{1><[1>then we sort of moved on to dislike um and then we sort of moved from there to um sort of almost open contempt um but that's nothing compared to what andrew thinks about LIZ <{2><[2><.>it's <[1>mm <[2>oh right um and sort of tension is is laughs particularly strong surrounding the matter of <&>12:00 s e slash <{1><[1>slash um particularly because thomas and liz coughs aren't s e slash slashing um whereas other people <{2><[2>ARE and er thomas has made a few inappropriate comments <{3><[3>about it um <.>an <[1>laughs <[2>laughs <[3>laughs well it must be hard when one's in auckland and one's in wellington mm <{1><[1>indeed it's difficult but um they don't do it when they're together either um somebody has got morals or something <{2><[2>anyway i don't know <.>thom <[1>laughs <[2>laughs is it thomas er er no well thomas made a few comments like when am i ever going to get sex to which andrew responded oh well you could rape liz laughs <{><[>laughs thomas looked <.>a thomas looked a bit horrified and then andrew offered the coup de grace by saying if you could untie her legs <[>yay laughs and i sort of sat there and thought i can't believe andrew just said <{1><[1>that <,> and neither could anybody else so <.>that that was thomas' last night um so i <{2><[2>don't know how liz will be feeling about the sittings <[1>laughs <[2>laughs <&>13:00 no <,> well you're very nice i mean i i sort of feel i i feel i should have actually jumped down <{><[>andrew's throat when he said that because it wasn't a nice thing to say i mean okay sure liz liz's a very nice girl and <.>she's i mean she does have a few funny ideas and sure she's not particularly strong in the conversation department <[>laughs yeah well that's true yes but there's no need to go insulting her like that <{1><[1>word so i should probably nailed my colours <{2><[2>to the mast there but i sort of <.>felt <[1>no <[2>laughs well i must say i can't blame thomas for not liking andrew no i feel at that point that's not a very nice thing to say so um i <.>was what was i going <.>t going on about i felt perhaps i should nail my colours to the mast to the mast on this one sort of side with <{1><[1>thomas but then i thought well <{2><[2>next year's thomas thomas will be in auckland the other side will be sort of one door down the corridor perhaps i should not say <{3><[3>anything <[1>mm <[2>you have to live with laughs <[3>yeah bit of diplomacy so is thomas going to auckland is he er he's sort of thinking about it he's pretty <{><[><.>s <[>to do is <.>he was he the one doing an honours chemistry or something god no oh voc um <.>h he doesn't really i don't know what <&>14:00 he'll be doing there he <.>doesn't i think he wants to get work oh right he's a bit <.>s has a rather large student loan <&>14:05
