and um tut oh and the <.>l the people down the road they've <.>got they've got a very nice selection of roses and one of them i was fascinated with <{2><[2>called hot chocolate <[1>yeah <[2>yeah oh and oh it's a real brown pink wonderful it's <{><[>the most amazing colour <[>oh sounds gorgeous <{><[>i LOVE those sort of blush pink and you know really skin coloured you know flowers i love those <[>sniffs well this was more i mean i wouldn't know how <&>3:00 to describe it you'd say it was more brown you'd say it was a brown rose oh with a slight <.>p tinge <{1><[1>towards a red but you know how you can get lipsticks that are really brown <{2><[2>say for example and that there's a little bit of pink in them <.>it's <{3><[3>it's sort of like that really more brown than anything else <[1>yes <[2>yeah oh yes yes <[3>yeah yes but depending on what stage it's at it um you know whether it's just um come out <{><[>or whether it's just about to die off <[>mm yeah they change colour oh and it is <.>re it you know er antony has lots to say about jenny and her garden word <{><[>and she's always changing things around and she just can't leave things put for <.>five and she always changes her mind where she's going to put things <[>laughs laughs it's terrible it's quite funny because you know when you get to know someone you know a bit better you suddenly realise <{1><[1>that especially children of people that you know and they suddenly have their <.>ru you know their OWN personalities you know because you look at tony you think oh yes he's his mother's son or you know oh he's a lot like <&>4:00 hamish <{2><[2>isn't he it's funny how word and he's just his own person <[1><.>b <.>b <[2>laughs oh absolutely he really is absolutely it was so funny i mean this is tut it's a bit naughty but i mean it's typical really but jenny <.>went she was putting this fertiliser i can't <.>remem yes i think she was doing it just after choir <{1><[1>or something and she said she was putting this fertiliser on and she was wondering why it oh oh no i think it <.>w might have been a spray <{2><[2>it might have been an insect spray <[1>laughs <[2>oh i think <.>it for aphids and things that's right and she wondered why the aphids were still thriving inhales and she thought this spray isn't any good you know <.>we i followed all the directions for a wonder she said <{><[>and um and that was all right <[>laughs for a wonder yes <{1><[1>so she went off to the garden centre she went complaining about the <{2><[2>the spray <[1>word <[2>spray yes and the lady looked at her and she said um how long have you had it <{><[>and jenny jenny said oh about twenty five years <[>word oh she didn't laughs <{1><[1>laughs and this lady just <{2><[2>looked at her as though to say <.>WH <[1>oh <[2><.>she oh oh <&>5:00 and ROLLED her eyes word i <.>think yeah well antony was saying <.>how <.>how how quite fiscally tight they both were <{1><[1>which was quite interesting because you know i mean they always look a well dressed couple and <{2><[2>you know have the latest in things <{3><[3>and you know <[1>yes <[2>mm <[3>inhales i think it was actually <.>thir oh ten or so years ago you know at that time jenny would bustle in over dressed and look sort of oldfashioned in a way oh and i remember one day when we had a church barbecue and it was down at the new tennis courts you know mm and jenny had this flowing nylon dress on <{><[><.>with it had little pearl buttons down the front and um <.>sh like you'd wear almost to a sort of a party <[>word mm in a way yes and scott just said dressed to <.>the and dressed for the occasion i see as usual <{><[>oh he's got a sharp tongue that boy <[>laughs and it was so right <{><[>laughs <.>and and you know i mean it was really witty but i mean <.>and and antony and the other guy used to growl at her for <.>looking why don't you dress a bit modern these days you know and um so now he <&>6:00 sees her in the outfits that you see her now in denim things and <[><.>it oh yeah <{><[>she really tries hard now <[>and stuff like that yeah so she's conscious of it you know well she's always been um er a meticulous dresser i think in many ways <{><[>and i think her mother is <[>yes inhales she IS actually for an older person she is yeah and she <.>ge has agnes been by herself for a long time or oh gosh i can't remember i think it would've been at least ten years mm yes isn't it terrible you sort of lose track of time you <{><[>know <[>you lose the track of time <{><[>yes yeah <[>mm but um cos she lived in kelburn originally oh did she <{><[>oh <[>yes in central terrace mm and you know that was a very nice house and then she so why did she come to wadestown because i think she just wanted to be closer <{1><[1>to jenny <{2><[2>mm and i think jenny felt a bit threatened by that because she sort of um felt that mum would be watching every move <{3><[3>that kind of idea yeah and <.>it that's when jenny said i'm quite thankful that she didn't have to word actually word she can't see what we're doing she said if she knew some of the <.>things the amount of times i go out <{4><[4>and <&>7:00 <[1>close <[2>yeah word <[3>well she is <[4>yes well this is it i mean when she was sort of you know hoeing into mothers for you know going out and leaving their babies and i sort of thought hang on a minute <{><[>laughs you know you can't just sit at home and do nothing and i know anna hasn't never sat and home and done nothing and <[>mm mm <{><[>mm <[>you know i mean <.>that's and the part of the reason why she IS such a kind generous person is because she does think about other people isn't it who jenny mm <.>sh yes <{><[>yes <[>she does <.>she she's always thinking about other people voc <{><[>yeah <[>you know what she can do for them to i know you know make them feel better it might not be what they necessarily want but <{1><[1>word that's right exactly you know but <.>she's she's going to do something to help you know <.>she <{2><[2>she's not a person that would just sit back and and you know feel as if you know oh well you know they're struggling i'll leave them to their struggles oh no <{3><[3>no no no i'll sort out their problems for them and you know that'll be really good i've done something to <{4><[4>help <[1>but they're going to get word <[2>laughs <[3>voc laughs <[4>laughs and i know what they want <{><[>and what's going to be good for them laughs word <[>and i know what they need laughs oh it's good <&>8:00 though that you can laugh about it you know i'm i'm pleased you can laugh about it yeah you know i'm pleased you're not angry with me about it oh why would i be well you might be i mean you might be you know well i'm <{><[>word <[>might think all sorts of things <.>think think that i think that you're awful saying those things or something mm oh you know you might think that of me no laughs <{><[>laughs <[>well i mean you're i mean you've been here longer than i have and you know it's always horrible being a new person to a neighbourhood <{><[>you know <.>and and it's one of the things well i think you know i didn't mix with anybody for a year because you <.>ALWAYS you can't help it but you always feel as if you're treading on somebody's else's territory <[>yes mm <{><[>mm <[>and you don't need to but you know it's like the time that liz asked me to play for band practice and here i'm thinking oh what about angela <{1><[1>you know that day and you know <.>e nobody had told angela that she WASN'T playing oh well that she WAS playing <.>sh <{2><[2>because liz had rung me and then i started to feel oh you know i mean maybe angela did really want to play and hadn't been <&>9:00 asked because i was there and oh you know and it's it's <.>h sometimes you <{3><[3>think you know should i get involved at ALL because you're only going to hurt people <[1>yeah word yeah <[2>yes <[3>yeah well i think that you see very <.>g you are a very sensitive person in a <.>nice i mean that in a you <{1><[1>know as a compliment i mean <{2><[2>you are not going to jump in boots and all <[1>yes <[2>oh i do i always <.>fe i always feel for other people and i think <{1><[1>well you know maybe i shouldn't be you know <{2><[2><.>sh you know <[1>mm <[2>well i think that you know i mean angela was hoping and praying that somebody else would play and <{1><[1>and um and she was so relieved <{2><[2>but i mean if you didn't <.>really you see there's not always the communication <[1>mm <[2>mm mm and you know that was very nice of you to say that and i suppose yeah you see the thing is too years and years ago when i was married and everything i think a lot of the people we associated with wouldn't always say things as they really were <{1><[1>and yet they can be pleasant <.>they you can feel <{2><[2>very word <[1>no <[2>that could be worse actually i <{1><[1>think they can be worse <.>i've you know um you know how the other day when i was at choir and um i told um you <&>10:00 know people how i was feeling a bit more confident <{2><[2>or something was that at choir and i was doing a selfdefence course <[1>it was terrible <[2>yeah yeah inhales oh wait a minute i mightn't have heard that oh <{1><[1>see that's <.>so yeah i was doing a selfdefence course <.>and and i've become a lot more confident and one of the things that you know i've started to do is to stand up for for you know women's rights in the firm that <{2><[2>you know a lot of the wives do a lot of work you know in the firm and get no recognition <[1>well you told me <[2><.>s mm whatsoever point word actually <{1><[1>and anyway so i thought right we're going to have a wives' committee and you know because these guys they go off quite a bit and all the sort of the and the young guys and things happen which shouldn't happen <{2><[2>and you know only because wives aren't there and aren't included and you know they have little <.>l family time as it is tut so i thought right the answer to this is you know we have a wives' committee and er we put in a bid whenever these guys go away so if they go away for a conference we put in a bid and say yes you know we'd like to come along on this conference and we'll pay our own way and <{3><[3>we'll organise activities for ourselves and you know um and and book our own accommodation <[1>yeah word laughs <[2>laughs <[3>voc <&>11:00 word but anyway i've got known around the place as <.>rather as a bit of a tyrant <{><[>now <[>laughs bit of a stirrer well only because sure i thought you know that i'd stand up for my own rights but you know now i feel really awful that you know <.>i <.>i i've got people into trouble because other wives have challenged their husbands as to you know why they they weren't invited and things like <{><[>that and they've had rows with their husbands and husbands have had rows with you know other higher members of the management team and it's all because of me <&>11:32 <[>yeah right
