  <WSC#DGZ044:0005:SG>
      all right <,>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0010:SG>
      now you're going overseas

  <WSC#DGZ044:0015:SG>
      whereabouts are you going to <{><[>and for how long</[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0020:CL>
      <[>to the states</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0025:CL>
      um to the states for nine weeks i'm going on summer camp
      <slowly>and then</slowly> probably <.>another</.> at the most
      three months staying in the states and then probably to canada

  <WSC#DGZ044:0030:SG>
      okay

  <WSC#DGZ044:0035:SG>
      all right <O>inhales</O>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0040:SG>
      now when you talked about opening up an off shore account how
      did you view that as being of benefit to you

  <WSC#DGZ044:0045:CL>
      um well some friends of mine are going overseas <&>14:00</&> and
      they said that they'd got an off shore account because what they
      did is bought <&>pronounced brought</&> um some english money
      <{><[>and</[> put it into their um this account and it meant
      that it was sort of quite stable with the <,> um currency rates

  <WSC#DGZ044:0050:SG>
      <[>mm</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0055:SG>
      mhm <O>tut</O> <{><[><O>inhales</O></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0060:CL>
      <[>until</[></{> they went and transferred it <.>into</.> oh i'm
      not actually sure but they just said oh why don't you go and get
      <laughs>one</laughs> <{><[><O>laughs</O></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0065:SG>
      <[>okay</[></{> and when are you going

  <WSC#DGZ044:0070:CL>
      i'm going in <.>five</.> five and half weeks

  <WSC#DGZ044:0075:SG>
      right

  <WSC#DGZ044:0080:SG>
      are you going on one of those y m c a camps <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0085:CL>
      <O>tut</O> um <.>yes</.> yeah <{><[>something</[> like that

  <WSC#DGZ044:0090:SG>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0095:SG>
      so's <.>one</.> so's my flatmate <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0100:CL>
      oh right <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0105:SG>
      YEAH <{><[><O>laughs</O></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0110:CL>
      <[><?>holiday</?></[></{> camp counsellor

  <WSC#DGZ044:0115:SG>
      yeah <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0120:CL>
      yeah <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0125:SG>
      yeah he's going to san diego

  <WSC#DGZ044:0130:SG>
      which part are you off <{><[>to</[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0135:CL>
      <[>um</[></{> new york

  <WSC#DGZ044:0140:SG>
      new <{><[>york</[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0145:CL>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0150:SG>
      how EXCITING <{1><[1><O>laughs</O></[1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0155:SG>
      okay all right <,>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0160:SG>
      what an off shore account does <,> <O>tut</O> is basically
      you're right you buy currency at a certain rate and <{2><[2>you</[2>
      leave it in that currency okay <O>inhales</O> and then when you
      want to take it <&>15:00</&> you can either have <?>it</?>
      converted back to new zealand or you can take it out in that
      currency

  <WSC#DGZ044:0165:SG>
      if you're going in five weeks though i wouldn't recommend
      opening one okay

  <WSC#DGZ044:0170:SG>
      first of all because <O>voc</O> the <O>voc</O> um the fees <{3><[3>okay</[3>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0175:SG>
      what happens is when you put the money in okay it costs you
      nothing to put the money in but when you take it back out you're
      gonna have to take it out in travellers cheques or in draft in
      some form or another

  <WSC#DGZ044:0180:SG>
      we have to convert it back to the new zealand rate at that time
      to work out the fees and then convert it back into the kiwi <.>rate</.>
      er the u s rate so it all stays on the <.>same</.> it all stays
      in the same rate okay

  <WSC#DGZ044:0185:SG>
      <.>it's</.> all stays in u s dollars but we charge you the fees
      at that time <{4><[4>for taking it</[4> back out in the
      equivalent of new zealand <{5><[5>dollars</[5>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0190:SG>
      also the other thing is is we wouldn't OPEN an off shore account
      for it to be only <.>o</.> used for five weeks <{6><[6>anyway</[6>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0195:CL>
      <[1><O>laughs</O></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0200:CL>
      <[2>yeah</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0205:CL>
      <[3>mm</[3></{3>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0210:CL>
      <[4>oh right</[4></{4>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0215:CL>
      <[5><quietly>so <.>you</.></quietly></[5></{5>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0220:CL>
      <[6>right</[6></{6> right

  <WSC#DGZ044:0225:SG>
      okay <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0230:CL>
      <quietly>right</quietly> <&>16:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0235:SG>
      so what I recommend <,> is that if you're wanting to avoid
      currency fluctuations okay you <.>start</.>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0240:SG>
      are you <O>voc</O> looking at buying just in little amounts or
      are you looking at buying the whole lot now

  <WSC#DGZ044:0245:CL>
      well i'm not actually sure

  <WSC#DGZ044:0250:CL>
      i guess i should start looking at what the um exchange rate is
      <.>and</.> probably in little amounts i'd say and <.>then</.>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0255:CL>
      i don't know

  <WSC#DGZ044:0260:CL>
      what's it like at the moment

  <WSC#DGZ044:0265:SG>
      okay well the rate at the moment is actually not too <{1><[1>bad
      if you're</[1> looking at purchasing <,> for u s dollars

  <WSC#DGZ044:0270:SG>
      i'll just grab my rate sheet for today <,> <O>tut</O>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0275:SG>
      i noticed yesterday <O>voc</O> <?>the</?> where the new zealand
      dollar's getting a bit stronger <{2><[2>against it</[2> so your
      new zealand dollar's buying slightly more than it did um six
      months ago okay

  <WSC#DGZ044:0280:SG>
      er six months ago it was you know every one new zealand dollars
      <.>would</.> would buy about fifty cents american <O>tut</O>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0285:SG>
      now you're getting about fifty three fifty four cents american

  <WSC#DGZ044:0290:CL>
      <[1><quietly>right</quietly></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0295:CL>
      <[2>oh is it</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0300:CL>
      <quietly><?>right</?></quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0305:SG>
      <O>tut</O> okay <O>inhales</O>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0310:SG>
      now how much are you <&>17:00</&> looking at taking overseas
      with <{><[>you</[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0315:CL>
      <[>um</[></{> probably in travellers cheques two thousand

  <WSC#DGZ044:0320:SG>
      <drawls>right</drawls>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0325:CL>
      i'm not actually sure because either i um <,> put some in my
      visa account

  <WSC#DGZ044:0330:SG>
      <quietly>mhm</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0335:CL>
      but someone just recommended to me yesterday that that's sort
      <.>of</.> it's really hard to judge how much money you've got
      because when <.>it</.> when you use your credit card um <O>tut</O>
      you don't know what the exchange rate for the day so you don't
      know actually how much you physically got

  <WSC#DGZ044:0340:SG>
      and if it'll <{1><[1>go through</[1> that day which it <{2><[2>may
      not go</[2> through for a couple of <{3><[3>days</[3> later <{4><[4><quietly>mm</quietly></[4>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0345:CL>
      <[1>in the bank</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0350:CL>
      <[2>yeah</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0355:CL>
      <[3>yeah</[3></{3>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0360:CL>
      <[4>um</[4></{4> so he recommended that i just took <quietly>quite
      a lot of</quietly> travellers cheques and use that just as a
      back up if you get stuck

  <WSC#DGZ044:0365:SG>
      <quietly>mm okay</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0370:CL>
      but i don't know

  <WSC#DGZ044:0375:CL>
      what do you think about that <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0380:SG>
      well I always suggest to customers when they go overseas that
      they use a selection of everything <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0385:CL>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0390:SG>
      they take some in cash cos when you arrive obviously you're <?>gonna</?>
      need to get a cab from the airport <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0395:CL>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ044:0400:SG>
      things like that <,>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0405:SG>
      you take a selection in cash

  <WSC#DGZ044:0410:SG>
      you take some in travellers cheques cos they <&>18:00</&> ARE
      handy for um just you know going and getting some cash

  <WSC#DGZ044:0415:CL>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0420:SG>
      and bits and pieces and as you say you know about the exchange
      rate but also to use some in your visa okay <O>inhales</O>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0425:SG>
      um the visa as sort of a back up <quietly>as well <{1><[1>okay</quietly></[1>
      so that you've got something in there just <.>to</.> to tide you
      through should anything happen to your travellers cheques

  <WSC#DGZ044:0430:SG>
      i mean like your travellers cheques <?>you</?> always get them
      replaced <,> <{2><[2>okay</[2> but there is a <.>per</.> maybe a
      period where you're going to need something to get you

  <WSC#DGZ044:0435:CL>
      <[1>mm</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0440:CL>
      <[2>mm</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0445:CL>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0450:SG>
      somewhere okay

  <WSC#DGZ044:0455:SG>
      so i always say to people take a selection of everything and
      <quietly>then you're right</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0460:SG>
      now <O>tut</O> for the amount that you're looking at taking <.>over</.>
      what you've got about five thousand new zealand saved have you
      <.>or</.>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0465:CL>
      <drawls>um <{><[>no</drawls></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0470:SG>
      <[>or <.>a</.> or are</[></{> you talking two thousand new
      zealand <{><[><quietly><?>to travel</?></quietly></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0475:CL>
      <[>yeah two thousand</[></{> new zealand

  <WSC#DGZ044:0480:SG>
      okay all right

  <WSC#DGZ044:0485:SG>
      in THAT case i would suggest because that would only convert
      back to being <&>19:00</&> about <{1><[1>one</[1> thousand <,>
      <{2><[2>american</[2> in THAT case i would actually suggest you
      just put it <?>on</?> take <.>some</.> half <.>in</.> take some
      in cash and put the rest in your visa <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0490:CL>
      <[1><?>one</?></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0495:CL>
      <[2>yeah</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0500:CL>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ044:0505:SG>
      yes travellers cheques are actually a <.>more</.> <.>are</.> are
      an expensive way of purchasing

  <WSC#DGZ044:0510:CL>
      right

  <WSC#DGZ044:0515:SG>
      <O>tut</O> okay <O>inhales</O> um

  <WSC#DGZ044:0520:SG>
      for example <.>we</.> <O>voc</O> we charge a commission on what
      you're purchasing

  <WSC#DGZ044:0525:SG>
      now if you're purchasing cash we charge one per cent new zealand
      with a minimum of five dollars <,> um and for travellers cheques
      we charge one per cent new zealand minimum of ten dollars

  <WSC#DGZ044:0530:SG>
      so for the amount that you're looking at if you were to purchase
      cash AND travellers cheques you <O>voc</O> it would actually
      cost you fifteen dollars

  <WSC#DGZ044:0535:CL>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0540:SG>
      just in commissions alone as opposed to if you <.>put</.> if you
      took over say two three hundred u s with you in cash and put the
      rest on your credit card it's only gonna cost you <,> five
      <&>20:00</&> <.>hundred</.> er five dollars

  <WSC#DGZ044:0545:CL>
      <{><[>mm</[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0550:SG>
      <[>new zealand</[></{> in commissions

  <WSC#DGZ044:0555:SG>
      otherwise <.>it's</.> you start eating into what you've saved

  <WSC#DGZ044:0560:CL>
      right <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0565:SG>
      by taking it in commissions

  <WSC#DGZ044:0570:CL>
      <quietly>right</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0575:SG>
      <?>of</?> course if you want to take travellers cheques then
      that's fine

  <WSC#DGZ044:0580:SG>
      um <.>that's</.> you know that's again <O>inhales</O> another
      idea but for the amount that you're looking at the fluctuation
      in rates probably isn't going to affect you TOO much <,> okay if
      that's your main concern

  <WSC#DGZ044:0585:CL>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0590:SG>
      being the rates

  <WSC#DGZ044:0595:SG>
      um <,> it's probably only going to affect you by a couple of
      dollars each <{1><[1>way</[1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0600:SG>
      see people look at rates and think oh WOW you know if it does
      this or if it does that that's going to affect me by quite a bit
      but when you actually sit down and work out the rates <?>the</?>
      reality is it <.>only</.> will only affect you by a couple of
      <{2><[2>dollars</[2> when you're looking at a couple of thousand
      new zealand

  <WSC#DGZ044:0605:CL>
      <[1>mm</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0610:CL>
      <[2>a little bit</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0615:CL>
      right so it's not worth sort of <{><[><unclear>word</unclear></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0620:SG>
      <[><loudly>well</loudly></[></{> <O>voc</O> i've got to be
      honest and say <&>21:00</&> <O>voc</O> probably the reality is
      um <,> that i mean you might save five dollars either way <{><[><.>so</.></[>
      <?>or</?> spend five dollars either way if you buy now or buy
      later <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0625:CL>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0630:CL>
      yeah

  <WSC#DGZ044:0635:SG>
      yeah

  <WSC#DGZ044:0640:CL>
      <quietly><?>it</?> doesn't really matter</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0645:CL>
      <{><[>like</[> um <.>what's</.> also is it better like i thought
      maybe i'd leave some money in an account here <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0650:SG>
      <[><unclear>word</unclear></[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0655:SG>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0660:CL>
      so that if i need it i can transfer it or would it be better to
      leave <.>so</.> do that or just to take ALL my <.>money</.> all
      my money i <quietly>possess in the whole world or just all my
      savings

  <WSC#DGZ044:0665:CL>
      you know what i mean</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0670:SG>
      <O>tut</O> <O>inhales</O> well i can't answer that question <{1><[1>for</[1>
      you

  <WSC#DGZ044:0675:SG>
      it's really a decision as to you have to decide

  <WSC#DGZ044:0680:SG>
      okay um

  <WSC#DGZ044:0685:SG>
      <{2><[2>it depends</[2> on your personal circumstances <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0690:CL>
      <[1>mm</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0695:CL>
      <[2>but how <?>easy is it <.>to</.></?></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0700:CL>
      yeah <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0705:SG>
      <?>how easy</?> is it?

  <WSC#DGZ044:0710:SG>
      <{><[>um</[> if you leave money here in new zealand

  <WSC#DGZ044:0720:CL>
      <?>to get it</?> <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0725:SG>
      you can <,> either contact us by fax or <{1><[1>phone</[1> or um
      give somebody authority to operate on your accounts and contact
      THAT person get them to arrange for money to be sent
      <&>22:00</&> over to you OR the bank that you're banking at over
      in the states or canada <?>you</?> can get them to <.>contact</.>
      contact us and send <{2><[2>money</[2> over

  <WSC#DGZ044:0730:SG>
      we charge twenty five dollars for telexing it

      <[1><?>right</?></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0740:CL>
      <[2>right</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0745:CL>
      right <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0750:SG>
      okay

  <WSC#DGZ044:0755:SG>
      there will be <.>ba</.> charges that the american banks will
      charge too

  <WSC#DGZ044:0760:SG>
      um because they differ from bank to bank i couldn't even begin
      to give you an indication <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0765:CL>
      yeah <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0770:SG>
      as to what charges you are likely to get at the other end
      <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0775:CL>
      <quietly>that's quite a <{><[>lot</quietly></[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0780:SG>
      <[>there</[></{> <.>is</.> it IS easy enough to organise but
      what the charges <.>are</.>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0785:SG>
      we charge twenty five dollars if you want a telex <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0790:CL>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ044:0795:SG>
      um which normally is the way because normally people who <&>pronounced
      whos</&> leave money here in new zealand and want it sent over
      to the country where they're in are normally pretty desperate
      for it so <{><[><laughs>they want their money</laughs> as</[>
      fast as possible

  <WSC#DGZ044:0800:SG>
      i mean we could send it by a bank draft but by the time that was
      posted over to you <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0805:CL>
      <[>right <O>laughs</O> yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0810:CL>
      yeah

  <WSC#DGZ044:0815:SG>
      um and the funds were <?>cleared</?> er

  <WSC#DGZ044:0820:SG>
      i mean that is another option but if you're leaving money here
      you're not going to want that until you <&>23:00</&> really need
      it <{><[>are you</[>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0825:CL>
      <[>mm</[></{> mm

  <WSC#DGZ044:0830:SG>
      <.>so</.> but it is easy enough to organise if you want to do
      that um <O>tut</O>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0835:SG>
      i normally recommend to people if you're gonna leave money here
      <O>inhales</O> um to give um parents or a family member
      authority <{1><[1>to</[1> operate on that account so that then
      <.>yo</.> when you <.>wri</.> if you need the money you can ring
      them and say look i'm stuck can you get money sent over and they
      can just come in and organise it and it cuts out one lot of fees
      from the u s bank end um and it saves on faxes and things <{2><[2>like</[2>
      that

  <WSC#DGZ044:0840:CL>
      <[1>mm</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ044:0845:CL>
      <[2><quietly>mm</quietly></[2></{2> <&>23:32</&>
</I>
