  <WSC#DGZ050:0005:CL>
      and like i've NEVER been out of new zealand before and i want to
      know about how to take um money because they did suggest that we
      could set up an account but i'm not gonna be there for very <.>long</.>
      like a bank account

  <WSC#DGZ050:0010:SA>
      <O>tut</O> how long will you be in <{><[>america for</[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0015:CL>
      <[>UM</[></{> <,> i'll be at camp for NINE weeks but probably
      another three months after that as well <.>so</.>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0020:SA>
      right

  <WSC#DGZ050:0025:SA>
      three months in the same spot?

  <WSC#DGZ050:0030:CL>
      <slowly>NO</slowly> i'll be travelling

  <WSC#DGZ050:0035:SA>
      okay so we <?>know</?> <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0040:CL>
      NINE weeks in the same spot

  <WSC#DGZ050:0045:SA>
      you're right

  <WSC#DGZ050:0050:SA>
      it CERTAINLY wouldn't be worthwhile to take um open up a bank
      account mainly because <.>getting</.>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0055:SA>
      the situation in america a lot of the banks are small

  <WSC#DGZ050:0060:SA>
      um there isn't a NATIONwide network

  <WSC#DGZ050:0065:CL>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0070:SA>
      of ONE particular banking group in sufficient towns where <.>y</.>
      if you had a cheque <&>1:00</&> account that you could open <.>funds</.>
      er take <.>out</.> draw funds from that account over the states

  <WSC#DGZ050:0075:SA>
      so you've got um <,> THREE options

  <WSC#DGZ050:0080:SA>
      you can either take a set <.>am</.> er amount in cash which
      would be advisable to get you started but CERTAINLY you wouldn't
      want to take excessive amounts in <{><[>cash</[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0085:CL>
      <[>mm</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0090:CL>
      would <.>that</.> is that travellers cheques do you mean <{><[>or
      cash cash

  <WSC#DGZ050:0095:CL>
      right</[> okay

  <WSC#DGZ050:0100:SA>
      <[>no CASH yep</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0105:SA>
      and you could then do TWO other aspects

  <WSC#DGZ050:0110:SA>
      you can either <O>tut</O> lodge the balance of your funds into a
      credit card account <,> and then you can draw from that credit
      card account sums of money as you wish <{><[><O>inhales</O></[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0115:CL>
      <[>so</[></{> that's <.>like</.> you know how you said there's
      not a nationwide bank but putting it into your credit card means
      that you can use your credit card in any sort of <,> <{><[>machine</[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0120:SA>
      <[>at any sort of bank</[></{> well

  <WSC#DGZ050:0125:CL>
      <.>or</.>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0130:SA>
      mainly you'd go through a bank because of course <?>your</?>
      credit card would be a new zealand issued one

  <WSC#DGZ050:0135:CL>
      yeah

  <WSC#DGZ050:0140:SA>
      and wouldn't <.>be</.> i er would doubt you would find it would
      <.>use</.> be used <.>at</.> or useful at er bank machines or
      money tellers <{1><[1>and so</[1> on <,>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0145:SA>
      <O>tut</O> it would be a situation where you would <&>2:00</&>
      go to a bank

  <WSC#DGZ050:0150:SA>
      er you would have <.>m</.> normally <.>a</.> a visa card is by
      certainly the most common one used and you'd take a cash advance
      against that visa account

  <WSC#DGZ050:0155:SA>
      <O>tut</O> <O>inhales</O> the advantage in that particular
      system is that your credit card <.>company</.> because your
      account will be in <&>telephone rings</&> CREDIT will actually
      pay you interest <{2><[2>on</[2> your money <,>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0160:SA>
      the DISadvantage is that credit cards um use a LOWER exchange
      rate than <{3><[3>what</[3> is the CURRENT exchange <.>rate</.>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0165:SA>
      so say for example the exchange rate for the u s is fifty three
      right now the rate that the credit card company would be using
      would be say fifty one point five or fifty <{4><[4>two</[4> at
      the <.>ma</.> at the <.>best</.> because the reason is they have
      to put a BUFFER cos they draw that fund out of your account not
      imMEDiately

  <WSC#DGZ050:0170:SA>
      there is a period of time later <{5><[5>and</[5> the currencies
      change in between

  <WSC#DGZ050:0175:SA>
      so that's the <.>o</.> one option then <.>there's</.> the OTHER
      option would <.>be</.> is travellers cheques <,>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0180:SA>
      <O>tut</O> the <&>3:00</&> advantage in the travellers cheques
      <&>telephone rings</&> is a that not only banks but also shops
      or hotels will cash them um so you have greater flexibility in
      where you can USE them

  <WSC#DGZ050:0185:CL>
      <[1>right</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0190:CL>
      <[2>right</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0195:CL>
      <[3>right</[3></{3>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0200:CL>
      <[4>mm</[4></{4>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0205:CL>
      <[5>mm</[5></{5>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0210:CL>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ050:0215:SA>
      um and the um exchange rate that you buy it at is a SET rate so
      it's not gonna fluctuate

  <WSC#DGZ050:0220:SA>
      you've known what it's cost you to buy that money and then it's
      just a <&>telephone rings</&> situation of going out and
      spending

  <WSC#DGZ050:0225:SA>
      the OTHER aspect I always like about er travellers cheques is
      that um as the <.>currency</.> as you SPEND it the currency
      actually <?>just appears</?> so you <{1><[1>can actually <.>get</.></[1>
      disappears <{2><[2>so <?>in</?></[2> other words you can CONTROL
      <{3><[3>what</[3> you're spending

  <WSC#DGZ050:0230:CL>
      <[1><?>what sorry?</?></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0235:CL>
      <[2>yeah</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0240:CL>
      <[3>right</[3></{3>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0245:CL>
      you <{1><[1>can</[1> physically see it you <{2><[2>mean</[2>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0250:SA>
      <[1><.>wh</.></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0255:SA>
      <[2>you see</[2></{2> it <{><[>gone</[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0260:SA>
      exactly

  <WSC#DGZ050:0265:SA>
      where with a credit you're always in a situation where it's a
      hidden amount

  <WSC#DGZ050:0270:CL>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0275:CL>
      yeah

  <WSC#DGZ050:0280:SA>
      you have NO idea what the cost of the holiday <{><[>is</[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0285:CL>
      <[>right</[></{> yeah

  <WSC#DGZ050:0290:SA>
      so <O>voc</O> i <.>use</.> PREFER to recommend that <?>you</?>
      use credit card as a back up er <?>but</?> you actually carry
      the funds with you

  <WSC#DGZ050:0295:CL>
      yeah

  <WSC#DGZ050:0300:SA>
      um if you record your serial numbers of your <&>4:00</&>
      travellers cheques you'll have no problems if you have them lost
      or stolen getting them replaced

  <WSC#DGZ050:0305:CL>
      yep

  <WSC#DGZ050:0310:SA>
      um the trick is of course is knowing WHAT the serial numbers of
      the travellers cheques the AMOUNT and the VALUE of the
      travellers cheques each coupon what its value is and then just
      keep a record <.>as</.> as you SPEND them <{><[>so that</[> if
      er at any time you can say right i've spent this many and this
      is what i've got left

  <WSC#DGZ050:0315:CL>
      <[>right</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0320:CL>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ050:0325:SA>
      <O>tut</O> help?

  <WSC#DGZ050:0330:CL>
      YEAH no <{1><[1>that's good

  <WSC#DGZ050:0335:CL>
      i <.>think</.></[1> it's really HARD for when you first go
      overseas

  <WSC#DGZ050:0340:CL>
      you just don't know ANYthing about <laughs>making <{2><[2>travel
      arrangements</laughs></[2> or <.>just</.> i just feel like a
      real <,> ignorant but um <{3><[3><O>tut</O></[3>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0345:SA>
      <[1><O>laughs</O> <O>coughs</O></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0350:SA>
      <[2><O>laughs</O></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0355:SA>
      <[3>that's</[3></{3> all right <,>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0360:SA>
      i actually did work in a camp

  <WSC#DGZ050:0365:CL>
      oh did you

  <WSC#DGZ050:0370:SA>
      <?><O>voc</O> like</?> what you're looking at doing

  <WSC#DGZ050:0375:CL>
      <{><[>yeah</[> yeah

  <WSC#DGZ050:0380:SA>
      <[>mm</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0385:SA>
      yeah i did it in colorado

  <WSC#DGZ050:0390:CL>
      right

  <WSC#DGZ050:0395:SA>
      <O>voc</O> in a camp up there for er twelve months

  <WSC#DGZ050:0400:CL>
      oh you worked for TWELVE months

  <WSC#DGZ050:0405:SA>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ050:0410:CL>
      i'm just working for nine weeks

  <WSC#DGZ050:0415:CL>
      was it through what um because i KNOW in new zealand you can go
      through camp counsel or camp america <{><[>or</[> there's
      another organisation <&>5:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0420:SA>
      <[>mm</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0425:SA>
      well <.>this</.> i worked with the y m c a camp

  <WSC#DGZ050:0430:SA>
      <O>tut</O> it's actually the largest y m c a camp in the world
      and when i worked there the camp <&>telephone rings</&> could
      accommodate four THOUSAND people

  <WSC#DGZ050:0435:CL>
      MY GOD

  <WSC#DGZ050:0440:SA>
      and we had everything from a resident artist through to its own
      bowling alley to its own hospital <O>tut</O>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0445:CL>
      wow

  <WSC#DGZ050:0450:SA>
      to um <?>an</?> olympic size swimming pool so it was an <.>AMAZING</.>
      it was <?>a</?> complete village its own post <{><[>office</[>
      um its own craft centre <?><.>and</.></?>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0455:CL>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0460:CL>
      and you got a visa for a whole year obviously <{><[>yeah</[>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0465:SA>
      <[>mm</[></{> <.>so</.>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0470:CL>
      cos we get a visa just for the <.>time</.> to work JUST for the
      time when we're at camp

  <WSC#DGZ050:0475:SA>
      <quietly>yep</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0480:CL>
      when we <?><.>finish</.></?>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0485:SA>
      it's INVALUABLE <{1><[1>well</[1> worth it <{2><[2>you</[2> know
      it's <.>a</.> an AMAZING experience

  <WSC#DGZ050:0490:CL>
      <[1>mm</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0495:CL>
      <[2>mm</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0500:CL>
      MM

  <WSC#DGZ050:0505:SA>
      so don't miss out on it

  <WSC#DGZ050:0510:CL>

  <WSC#DGZ050:0515:CL>

      <.>just</.> just realised i've got all these little things that
      i don't know anything about that i've got to find out about and
      find the best way <.>to</.> to deal with it but um

  <WSC#DGZ050:0520:SA>
      <O>tut</O> all right?

  <WSC#DGZ050:0525:CL>
      yeah yeah that's good <&>6:00</&>
</I>
