  <WSC#DGZ065:0005:AP>
      now minutes of last week's <,> meeting <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0010:AP>
      <.>anybody</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0015:AP>
      are they okay <,,> <?>yvonne</?>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0020:YD>
      can i just say that i didn't get any minutes so <.>i</.> <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0025:YD>
      <{><[>i usually</[> get them sent to me <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0030:YD>
      <.>this</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0035:AP>
      <[>right <.>i</.></[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0040:AP>
      ah well that <{><[>that would have been me</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0045:AP>
      i <&>1:00</&> didn't know that

  <WSC#DGZ065:0050:YD>
      <[>and it happened <.>that</.></[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0055:YD>
      and i think that patricia gets <{><[>them too mm

  <WSC#DGZ065:0060:YD>
      that's right</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0065:AP>
      <[>yes <,> right um</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0070:AP>
      well i'll um <,,> i'll get nicola to do a couple of extra copies

  <WSC#DGZ065:0075:YD>
      thank you <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0080:AP>
      or actually maurice will have them

  <WSC#DGZ065:0085:AP>
      if you ask marie to do a <{><[>couple of extra copies</[> <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0090:AP>
      right well if it's the minutes okay

  <WSC#DGZ065:0095:AP>
      matters arising

  <WSC#DGZ065:0100:AP>
      the only one that I identified was the er information for
      masters <,> students is

  <WSC#DGZ065:0105:AP>
      i don't know whether there's anything else anyone <,,><&>3</&>
      <O>voc</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0110:CO>
      <[><whispers><?>okay</?> <unclear>word</unclear></whispers></[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0115:CO>
      maurice robertson was going to look into that <?>for us</?>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0120:AP>
      yes so we'll just have to leave <{><[>that</[> <,> till next
      week <,,><&>4</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0125:AP>
      the locked store room

  <WSC#DGZ065:0130:AP>
      there's no <,> further problem with that is there

  <WSC#DGZ065:0135:CO>
      <[><O>clears throat</O></[></{> <&>2:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0140:CO>
      <{><[><O>voc</O></[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0145:YD>
      <[>no</[></{> <,,><&>3</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0150:AP>
      just in connection

  <WSC#DGZ065:0155:AP>
      can i just mention with the um information for masters students

  <WSC#DGZ065:0160:AP>
      though i probably really ought to talk to um maurice and karen
      about that

  <WSC#DGZ065:0165:AP>
      there was er <drawls>a</drawls> mention in the staff circular
      last friday that there's going to be a two hour seminar

  <WSC#DGZ065:0170:AP>
      which the graduate students i think have organised for
      themselves <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0175:AP>
      over in the student union <.>b</.> building on <.>s</.> saturday

  <WSC#DGZ065:0180:AP>
      so i thought i'd go along to that because there may well be
      things like grievances <,> and grievance procedures come up

  <WSC#DGZ065:0185:AP>
      so i'll have a talk to dan about that so i'll report back to
      that next week <O>inhales</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0190:AP>
      reports from managers michael <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0195:CO>
      <O>tut</O> um <O>clears throat</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0200:CO>
      everything seems to be <&>3:00</&> flowing quite smoothly <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0205:CO>
      there's no real problems that are on <.>our</.> on our plate at
      the moment <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0210:CO>
      we're just working towards our publications for nineteen ninety
      four <,> um other than that everything's okay

  <WSC#DGZ065:0215:AP>
      <O>inhales</O> um yes i'm <.>s</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0220:AP>
      your section's making me suffer at the moment

  <WSC#DGZ065:0225:AP>
      but i'm i'm one inch through my two inch <,> pile of letters for
      the fees office <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0230:AP>
      i hope to knock off the other inch today

  <WSC#DGZ065:0235:AP>
      i've decided not to count them but i did measure them and
      they're JUST under two inches

  <WSC#DGZ065:0240:CO>
      we'll take you out for lunch for that

  <WSC#DGZ065:0245:AP>
      thank you

  <WSC#DGZ065:0250:BF>
      how kind <{><[><O>laughs</O></[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0255:AP>
      <[>but then</[></{> i won't <laughs>have any strength <{1><[1>left</[1>
      for this

  <WSC#DGZ065:0260:AP>
      <{2><[2>lift a cup of coffee i</laughs> don't think that's
      <unclear>word</unclear></[2> <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0265:AP>
      pam

  <WSC#DGZ065:0270:CO>
      <[1><O>laughs</O></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0275:BF>
      <[2><O>laughs</O></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0280:BF>
      um <O>tut</O> right well <.>we've</.> approaching <,> deadlines
      <.>for</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0285:BF>
      we've passed the deadline for the enrolment handbook <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0290:BF>
      um all we're really waiting for now is the the <,> er final
      details <&>4:00</&> from politics <drawls>who</drawls> seem to
      have some issues with with what was printed

  <WSC#DGZ065:0295:BF>
      i think there's something between sandra and maureen camp
      slipped down the cracks

  <WSC#DGZ065:0300:BF>
      and anyway we're in the process of getting that sorted out

  <WSC#DGZ065:0305:BF>
      i had to ASSURE maureen that helen knew exactly what it was all
      about and that she would sort it out

  <WSC#DGZ065:0310:BF>
      please just let us have the information back <{><[>um</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0315:AP>
      <[><?>is this</?></[></{> timetabling <{><[><?>tabling</?></[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0320:BF>
      <[>timetabling</[></{> mm

  <WSC#DGZ065:0325:BF>
      so that's good and in the information handbook we'll have we'll
      have <drawls>the</drawls> v u w timetable and the course
      schedule

  <WSC#DGZ065:0330:BF>
      we'll have the courses being offered at the c i t separately

  <WSC#DGZ065:0335:BF>
      the wellington polytechnic separately

  <WSC#DGZ065:0340:BF>
      and <drawls>the</drawls> wellington college of education

  <WSC#DGZ065:0345:BF>
      we'll put them all under separate headings

  <WSC#DGZ065:0350:BF>
      and their courses they're offering and the timetable for each
      course will be detailed under a separate heading

  <WSC#DGZ065:0355:BF>
      so it should be nice and clear for everybody

  <WSC#DGZ065:0360:BF>
      and <,,> <&>5:00</&> we'll probably add as much information
      under each heading as we can about ensuring that they know which
      institution to enrol at etcetera <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0365:BF>
      <drawls>um</drawls> so that's looking pretty good <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0370:BF>
      the enrolment

  <WSC#DGZ065:0375:BF>
      preenrolment forms are beginning to look more complicated
      everyday

  <WSC#DGZ065:0380:BF>
      as we sort of manage to slip out of larry <.>meyer's</.> mayer's
      simple format and got back into putting everything that <{1><[1>everybody</[1>
      wants <laughs>it and everybody</laughs> <{2><[2><drawls>needs</drawls></[2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0385:BF>
      so we'll see how those go

  <WSC#DGZ065:0390:BF>
      um <,> but they should they should be pretty good

  <WSC#DGZ065:0395:BF>
      um so that's it

  <WSC#DGZ065:0400:BF>
      and EXAMS exams are coming along

  <WSC#DGZ065:0405:BF>
      the timetable

  <WSC#DGZ065:0410:BF>
      er the rooming and everything is all all well underway <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0415:BF>
      um <quietly>what else have we got</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0420:BF>
      that's about it

  <WSC#DGZ065:0425:BF>
      we're really now setting out to pack preenrolment material once
      it's it's printed

  <WSC#DGZ065:0430:BF>
      so it's all go

  <WSC#DGZ065:0435:BF>
      um we're busy but you know everything's well in hand <&>6:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0440:AP>
      <[1>oh</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0445:AP>
      <[2><O>laughs</O></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0450:AP>
      so <.>we</.> we're doing <,,> all packing here or?

  <WSC#DGZ065:0455:BF>
      <.>y</.> all the RETURNING students

  <WSC#DGZ065:0460:BF>
      <{1><[1>those</[1> are the students in nineteen ninety three
      will be done at gallaghers

  <WSC#DGZ065:0465:BF>
      we're having rather a nice little envelope that everything will
      go into this year

  <WSC#DGZ065:0470:BF>
      and <drawls>the</drawls> returning students' preenrolment forms
      will be preprinted

  <WSC#DGZ065:0475:BF>
      and the little package will have a square cut die

  <WSC#DGZ065:0480:BF>
      you know die cut hole in it for the address

  <WSC#DGZ065:0485:BF>
      and they will be cellowrapped at gallaghers

  <WSC#DGZ065:0490:BF>
      again because of the the bits open

  <WSC#DGZ065:0495:BF>
      um the rest will just be enveloped and packed HERE

  <WSC#DGZ065:0500:BF>
      we'll get a team of people to pack them here

  <WSC#DGZ065:0505:BF>
      we did last year and it seemed to work very well

  <WSC#DGZ065:0510:BF>
      and they're even

  <WSC#DGZ065:0515:BF>
      they're much simpler this year without um maurice's allowances
      and loans material

  <WSC#DGZ065:0520:BF>
      so we'll do that here

  <WSC#DGZ065:0525:BF>
      and they'll all <{2><[2>go</[2> out well

  <WSC#DGZ065:0530:BF>
      they'll all be ready to go out at the beginning of october <,>
      <&>7:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0535:AP>
      <[1>oh</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0540:AP>
      <[2><quietly>oh</quietly></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0545:AP>
      right

  <WSC#DGZ065:0550:BF>
      <O>tut</O> i can't think of any any problems that should arise
      unless all the printing goes haywire <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0555:CO>
      <O>clears throat</O> we we cannot rely on the ministry to have
      the <{1><[1>material</[1> to us

  <WSC#DGZ065:0560:CO>
      so we're we're working by mail this year where students will
      <{2><[2>request</[2> information from us

  <WSC#DGZ065:0565:BF>
      <[1>yeah</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0570:AP>
      <[2>right</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0575:AP>
      the <?><.>rates</.></?>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0580:AP>
      if there's double mailing costs then presumably <,,><&>3</&> <.>that</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0585:AP>
      yeah <.>i</.> is there money for that <{><[>too

  <WSC#DGZ065:0590:AP>
      <?>yeah</?></[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0595:CO>
      <[>well i've i've</[></{> i've spoken to uga and mary mcdonald

  <WSC#DGZ065:0600:CO>
      and they're prepared to pick up the tab for <{><[>for</[>
      postage paid

  <WSC#DGZ065:0605:CO>
      see how those go

  <WSC#DGZ065:0610:AP>
      <[>oh</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0615:AP>
      marie <,> how are <{><[>you</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0620:YD>
      <[><drawls>um</drawls> well</[></{> patricia has gone over to
      liaison <,> this week and sandra's gone into patricia's
      <,,><&>3</&> for um half past eight till twelve each day

  <WSC#DGZ065:0625:YD>
      we interviewed and took on a girl called kath <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0630:YD>
      johnson i was going to say but <,> it's just

  <WSC#DGZ065:0635:YD>
      <laughs>kath at <&>8:00</&> <.>th</.> this stage</laughs>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0640:YD>
      who seems an EXTREMELY good person and i think will be very good
      for other people

  <WSC#DGZ065:0645:YD>
      and later on she's um <O>tut</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0650:YD>
      she starts on friday and she's got <drawls>an</drawls> arts
      degree and double major

  <WSC#DGZ065:0655:YD>
      and she's <,> doing <{1><[1><unclear>word</unclear> <?>papers</?></[1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0660:YD>
      she was a student <{2><[2><?>here</?> mm</[2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0665:AP>
      <[1>was she a student here</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0670:AP>
      <[2>so she's sort of</[2></{2> broken in to being <{><[>a
      student</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0675:YD>
      <[>yes

  <WSC#DGZ065:0680:YD>
      she</[></{> knows the background of the institution

  <WSC#DGZ065:0685:YD>
      and um <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0690:AP>
      right <.>that's</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0695:AP>
      so she's <,,><&>3</&> is she <.>w</.> she's fulltime <{><[>is
      she <?>or is she parttime</?></[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0700:YD>
      <[><O>tut</O> no she's only going to work</[></{> er half past
      eight to twelve

  <WSC#DGZ065:0705:AP>
      mm

  <WSC#DGZ065:0710:YD>
      up until december

  <WSC#DGZ065:0715:??>
      <whispers><unclear>word</unclear></whispers>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0720:YD>
      um i think we're going to have a bit of a problem actually
      because they're talking about <.>going</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0725:YD>
      mary um <,,> <O>tut</O> from c s c <O>tut</O> was <.>com</.> in
      yesterday talking about getting on with degree audit

  <WSC#DGZ065:0730:YD>
      which means that harriet's going <&>9:00</&> to be taken out too
      for <,,> a half a day <,,><&>3</&> for every day of the week

  <WSC#DGZ065:0735:YD>
      so things are going to be fair to middling for a while

  <WSC#DGZ065:0740:YD>
      but that's just floating at <{1><[1>present</[1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0745:YD>
      but it's something that'll need to get looked <{2><[2>at</[2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0750:AP>
      <[1>right</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0755:AP>
      <[2>yeah</[2></{2> well that's something she'll have to talk

      <{><[>talk over with jenny <unclear>word</unclear></[>

      <quietly>right</quietly>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0840:YD>
      <O>tut</O> i think that's all that i can report on <,,><&>3</&>

      i think maurice's actually first

      <.>his</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0860:YD>
      i see something

  <WSC#DGZ065:0865:YD>
      he's got something here about his um trouble with architecture

  <WSC#DGZ065:0925:AP>
      yes <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0930:BF>
      yes

  <WSC#DGZ065:0935:ES>
      <O>laughs</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0940:AP>

      as part of <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0950:ES>
      oh <{><[>yes</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0955:AP>
      <[>janet holmes'</[></{> research project on use of new zealand
      english

  <WSC#DGZ065:0960:ES>
      yep

  <WSC#DGZ065:0965:AP>
      yes so if you'd like to breathe very deeply <{><[>you're just</[>
      in time for you to give your report <&>11:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0970:ES>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0975:ES>
      oh goodness <,> i've got jet lag <O>laughs</O> <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0980:ES>
      um <O>clears throat</O> actually nothing much except <,> our
      office is totally depleted because of the <laughs>liaison</laughs>
      <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:0985:ES>
      um

  <WSC#DGZ065:0990:YD>
      yes funny that

  <WSC#DGZ065:0995:ES>
      problem <unclear>word</unclear>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1000:ES>
      so i <.>we</.> i went

  <WSC#DGZ065:1005:ES>
      i did the expo <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1010:ES>
      first day of the expo yesterday in new plymouth

  <WSC#DGZ065:1015:ES>
      <O>laughs</O> it was absolutely disastrous

  <WSC#DGZ065:1020:ES>
      we had <.>to</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1025:ES>
      i had to get a flight <{1><[1>to auckland</[1> to get back to
      new <laughs>plymouth</laughs>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1030:ES>
      <{2><[2><O>laughs</O></[2> so i got there half an hour after the
      thing started

  <WSC#DGZ065:1035:ES>
      but um <,> and kit and vivian are up there for the next two days
      <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1040:ES>
      but apart from that um

  <WSC#DGZ065:1045:CO>
      <[1><O>coughs</O></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1050:CO>
      <[2><O>laughs</O></[2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1055:BF>
      <[2>oh did you</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1060:AP>
      that's sort of an expo for secondary schools <{><[>is it</[> or
      senior <.>s</.> <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1065:ES>
      <[>yes</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1070:ES>
      no all <{><[>secondary schools</[>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1075:ES>
      it's about um six hundred to a thousand <,,> a day going through

  <WSC#DGZ065:1080:ES>
      it's worthwhile being there

  <WSC#DGZ065:1085:ES>
      but um it's unfortunate that that it was so rushed for us

  <WSC#DGZ065:1090:ES>
      anyway <,> it's all under <&>12:00</&> control now

  <WSC#DGZ065:1095:ES>
      and um <O>tut</O> beth <,> disappears next week for her first
      south east asian experience <O>laughs</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1100:ES>
      that's why i kept her back this week <O>laughs</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1105:ES>
      crisis control <O>laughs</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1110:ES>
      um otherwise everything's going fine <,> i think <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1115:AP>
      <[>yes right</[></{>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1120:AP>
      <O>tut</O> right <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1125:AP>
      well if i give a um <,,><&>3</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1130:AP>
      <?>i've prepared</?> a little report um

  <WSC#DGZ065:1135:AP>
      <.>last</.> since last meeting i've been <drawls>to</drawls> a
      meeting which jenny asked me to go to of

  <WSC#DGZ065:1140:AP>
      it's an informal little committee

  <WSC#DGZ065:1145:AP>
      the working group working with students with DISABILITIES <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1150:AP>
      <drawls>um</drawls> we were talking about whether it should
      continue as a <,> permanent <,,><&>3</&> <.>meeti</.> um
      committee as part of the sort of STRUCTURE of committees

  <WSC#DGZ065:1155:AP>
      and <&>13:00</&> i think it's a group that really ought to <,>
      ought to be set up more formally

  <WSC#DGZ065:1160:AP>
      i found it a very interesting meeting

  <WSC#DGZ065:1165:AP>
      <drawls>um they</drawls> spent some time with a severely hearing
      impaired student who came along with her <,> interpreter

  <WSC#DGZ065:1170:AP>
      and this raised a very interesting question in my mind <,> about
      people such as <.>y</.> people with severe hearing impairment as
      to how how we cope with them

  <WSC#DGZ065:1175:AP>
      because you know it's it's not a <.>f</.> not an impairment you
      pick up very easily

  <WSC#DGZ065:1180:AP>
      i don't know when <.>w</.> she suffered the severe hearing loss
      because she speaks very well

  <WSC#DGZ065:1185:AP>
      i mean she obviously learnt to speak while she could still hear

  <WSC#DGZ065:1190:AP>
      so that you wouldn't tell from

  <WSC#DGZ065:1195:AP>
      i mean she'd be able to front up to a counter okay and speak <,>
      which wouldn't trigger off in people's minds that <.>she</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1200:AP>
      so whether in fact she copes by coming in and saying to people
      <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1205:AP>
      <{><[><.>i'm</.></[> <&>14:00</&>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1210:YD>
      <[>is this</[></{> here is this a student we have <{1><[1>here

  <WSC#DGZ065:1215:YD>
      is she a blonde girl

  <WSC#DGZ065:1220:YD>
      yes we</[1> don't have any trouble <{2><[2>with her</[2>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1225:AP>
      <[1>yes <unclear>word</unclear> yes <.>so</.></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1230:AP>
      <[2>so so she</[2></{2> tell

  <WSC#DGZ065:1235:AP>
      yes <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1240:YD>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1245:AP>
      but it was <{1><[1>interesting</[1> that you know <.>some</.>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1250:AP>
      i mean i hadn't really stopped to think about that before

  <WSC#DGZ065:1255:AP>
      but it was actually quite interesting watching the interpreter
      um interpret for her

  <WSC#DGZ065:1260:AP>
      she spoke for herself and then he interpreted what people were
      responding <O>tut</O> <O>inhales</O>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1265:AP>
      um so um i'm going to report to jenny about this and and that's
      a committee i'd like to sort of keep on keep on working with

  <WSC#DGZ065:1270:AP>
      um <,> don't know whether that should <?>leave us any</?> um
      <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1275:AP>
      <drawls>some</drawls> of the things they touched on was to do
      with um <,,><&>3</&> departmental support for helping students
      over things like assessment or special xeroxing and things like
      that

  <WSC#DGZ065:1280:AP>
      sort of internal matters which jess's <&>15:00</&> going to take
      up <,> the

  <WSC#DGZ065:1285:AP>
      <.>not</.> not things sort of affecting registry <unclear>word</unclear>
      <O>tut</O> <,,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1290:AP>
      and <.>one</.> <.>the</.> another one which i went to um which
      <,> <{2><[2>jenny normally</[2> goes to was student union
      support <,> group

  <WSC#DGZ065:1295:AP>
      which is the one where i picked up that little <,> brochure
      about workshops

  <WSC#DGZ065:1300:AP>
      <&>next utterance addressed to ES</&> <?>esther pardon me</?>
      you might be interested in that

  <WSC#DGZ065:1305:AP>
      which was also a very

  <WSC#DGZ065:1310:AP>
      mm that'll be a useful record to go to um <,>

  <WSC#DGZ065:1315:AP>
      i don't know whether people

  <WSC#DGZ065:1320:AP>
      sorry to be fluffing around

  <WSC#DGZ065:1325:YD>

      do we have this brochure in student records or <.>any</.>
      anywhere <{1><[1>where we could</[1> <{2><[2>keep</[2> it

  <WSC#DGZ065:1340:YD>
