  <WSC#DPC308:0005:NG>
      well mark tell me in no more than two thousand words your life
      story

  <WSC#DPC308:0010:VC>
      i don't think it's very interesting

  <WSC#DPC308:0015:VC>
      i can tell you about today <,,>

  <WSC#DPC308:0020:VC>
      why why i haven't been in my office all day

  <WSC#DPC308:0025:NG>
      i'm sure that's fascinating

  <WSC#DPC308:0030:VC>
      <?>oh well</?> <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0035:NG>
      why haven't you been in your office <&>1:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0040:VC>
      because um this morning i had to go to the airport at at er <,>
      to meet the chap off the plane from auckland at eight oclock

  <WSC#DPC308:0045:NG>
      oh that one <{><[>oh</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0050:VC>
      <[>yeah</[></{> er and then i um because it was such a lovely
      day i mean it really was a nice day this morning <{1><[1>and i
      knew</[1> that i started work at eight oclock cos that's when i
      met up with this chap and was bringing him back and so i brought
      him back a long slow route around the waterfront and up mount
      victoria and then we looked at everything around and looked at
      the layout of the city and stuff like that

  <WSC#DPC308:0055:VC>
      <{2><[2>so i got back here</[2> at a quarter past nine having
      dropped him off <,> at the terrace regency <&>door closes as
      research assistant leaves room</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0060:NG>
      <[1>it was</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:0065:NG>
      <[2><O>coughs</O> oh</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0070:VC>
      and made sure that he was all right and <{><[><?>showed him
      where to go</?></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0075:NG>
      <[>he WAS booked in</[></{> was he

  <WSC#DPC308:0080:VC>
      yes <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0085:NG>
      so so it wasn't that <unclear>word</unclear> <{><[>i mean
      <unclear>word</unclear> made the</[> arrangement

  <WSC#DPC308:0090:VC>
      <[>yeah no</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0095:VC>
      no he got <{><[><laughs></[> yeah he got booked in all right</laughs>

  <WSC#DPC308:0100:NG>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0105:NG>
      yeah that was right

  <WSC#DPC308:0110:VC>
      and um so then i came up here <,> <drawls>and er</drawls> i did
      spend half an hour in my office <,> before coming to a
      wonderfully inspiring <&>2:00</&> meeting of our management
      group

  <WSC#DPC308:0115:NG>
      it was it <{1><[1>it</[1> was only two hours <{2><[2>too</[2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0120:VC>
      <[1><O>voc</O></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:0125:VC>
      <[2>it was</[2></{2> one of our more inspiring achievements
      <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0130:NG>
      mind you you did all walk out at the end just as i was trying to
      get one question <laughs>resolved</laughs>

  <WSC#DPC308:0135:NG>
      <{><[><quietly><O>laughs</O></quietly></[> oh about that ad in
      <unclear>word</unclear>

  <WSC#DPC308:0140:NG>
      but that's all right we've resolved that

  <WSC#DPC308:0145:VC>
      <[>which is what</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0150:VC>
      oh i didn't want to resolve that question and then what what on
      earth was gonna resolve it at well what happened WHO resolved it

  <WSC#DPC308:0155:NG>
      <O>voc</O> <&>name of party</&> resolved it

  <WSC#DPC308:0160:VC>
      by doing what <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0165:NG>
      so oh we we're going to do our own thing and <{><[>so</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0170:VC>
      <[>with</[></{> your own <?>punnet</?>

  <WSC#DPC308:0175:NG>
      our own punnet as it were yes <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0180:VC>
      oh <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0185:NG>
      yes <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0190:VC>
      oh

  <WSC#DPC308:0195:NG>
      so er

  <WSC#DPC308:0200:VC>
      okay <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0205:NG>
      although funnily enough there is um a reference in the blurb
      that we were sent about <.>th</.> the the great benefits of the
      internet so which i think is what probably gave us the idea

  <WSC#DPC308:0210:VC>
      oh <{><[>yeah</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0215:NG>
      <[>initially</[></{> about <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0220:VC>
      so we should actually have <{1><[1>looked at it a bit more
      seriously</[1> i'm sorry about that

  <WSC#DPC308:0225:VC>
      i <{2><[2>i was sort of feeling a bit <laughs>tired by then</laughs></[2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0230:VC>
      i didn't want to resolve the issue of punnet

  <WSC#DPC308:0235:NG>
      <[1><?>think it might get</?></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:0240:NG>
      <[2><O>laughs</O></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0245:NG>
      no well it wasn't it wasn't a great issue it

  <WSC#DPC308:0250:NG>
      i i was just writing some notes and <&>3:00</&> <laughs>looked
      up and everyone was walking out the door</laughs> <O>both laugh</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:0255:VC>
      er so <{1><[1>anyway that was a</[1> wonderful inspired er
      meeting that we had

  <WSC#DPC308:0260:VC>
      and then and then we had to meet up with this chap no i there
      was something else i had to do but it was all down here and then
      we had to meet up with this chap and take him to the staff club
      for lunch

  <WSC#DPC308:0265:VC>
      and then um i had to take him down and get <,> the <,> the group
      down at hunter working with him and thinking through a few
      issues and resolve things about where we're going for dinner
      tonight and all that sort of <{2><[2><?>stuff</?></[2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0270:VC>
      so er then i had a meeting at three oclock with er with er the
      new dean of education to discuss her problems

  <WSC#DPC308:0275:VC>
      she's got a terrible room

  <WSC#DPC308:0280:VC>
      she's got a little box of a room about <,> about ten foot square
      i suppose

  <WSC#DPC308:0285:NG>
      <[1><O>voc</O> but i'm not defensive</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:0290:NG>
      <[2><O>laughs</O></[2></{2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0295:NG>
      oh

  <WSC#DPC308:0300:VC>
      and <,> she's working and it's just awful

  <WSC#DPC308:0305:VC>
      i mean i hadn't realised the accommodation in education was as
      bad as <{><[>it is</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0310:NG>
      <[>oh i think</[></{> it's fairly basic sort of the rooms <{><[>i've
      seen yeah</[> <&>4:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0315:VC>
      <[><?>yes</?> but basic</[></{> is not the word <{><[><?>actually</?></[>
      it's just terrible

  <WSC#DPC308:0320:VC>
      i said why the hell don't you get yourself a decent room at
      least you know <,> to work in

  <WSC#DPC308:0325:NG>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0330:NG>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0335:VC>
      but apparently it's regarded as being politically undesirable in
      the education service to get yourself a decent room

  <WSC#DPC308:0340:NG>
      oh

  <WSC#DPC308:0345:NG>
      so <O>tut</O> so i've just come from there you see <,,>

  <WSC#DPC308:0350:NG>
      <?><O>tut</O></?> not having <,> done anything useful all day
      really

  <WSC#DPC308:0355:NG>
      so you see this is why i haven't been in my office

  <WSC#DPC308:0360:NG>
      yes oh well that's one reason i didn't catch you when when i
      rang

  <WSC#DPC308:0365:VC>
      so i'm sorry about that

  <WSC#DPC308:0370:VC>
      why haven't you been in YOUR office

  <WSC#DPC308:0375:VC>
      why why were you phoning my office

  <WSC#DPC308:0380:NG>
      oh just to see if you er were there

  <WSC#DPC308:0385:VC>
      ah and well when when the phone rang and i didn't answer you
      concluded i wasn't

  <WSC#DPC308:0390:NG>
      yes and at the same time i heard you in the corridor so all was
      revealed

  <WSC#DPC308:0395:VC>
      right <,,> yeah okay well see i've been talking for my requisite
      ten minutes <{><[>i've contributed at least</[> a thousand words
      to the database <,,> <&>5:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0400:NG>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0405:NG>
      yes well well my day has been much more prosaic <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:0410:NG>
      i had to <,> i had to go to a travel agent and get my tickets
      because we had a deluge of relatives in the weekend and i forgot
      all about them

  <WSC#DPC308:0415:NG>
      as i as i'm <{><[>going tomorrow</[> this was rather <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0420:VC>
      <[>relatives</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0425:VC>
      tickets

  <WSC#DPC308:0430:NG>
      rather urgent

  <WSC#DPC308:0435:VC>
      cos you're going tomorrow

  <WSC#DPC308:0440:NG>
      yep mm

  <WSC#DPC308:0445:VC>
      on on on on another extensive o e

  <WSC#DPC308:0450:NG>
      not very extensive <{><[><unclear>word</unclear> <O>laughs</O></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0455:VC>
      <[>add that to the database quickly</[></{> <O>both laugh</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:0460:NG>
      yeah no no not not very extensive

  <WSC#DPC308:0465:NG>
      um <.>s</.> actually it'll probably be rather hot

  <WSC#DPC308:0470:VC>
      where is it sydney <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0475:NG>
      sydney

  <WSC#DPC308:0480:VC>
      mm yeah probably will be

  <WSC#DPC308:0485:NG>
      <?>never</?> been there in february before

  <WSC#DPC308:0490:VC>
      no <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0495:NG>
      mind you the first time i i'd never been to australia until i
      was well in my forties

  <WSC#DPC308:0500:NG>
      and the first time i went was at the end of june

  <WSC#DPC308:0505:NG>
      and i left here in seven degrees good old wellington june day

  <WSC#DPC308:0510:VC>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0515:NG>
      arrived in the er the hottest june day on record in sydney it
      was twenty six which is <&>6:00</&> <laughs>probably not <{><[>bad</[>
      even for this time of year</laughs>

  <WSC#DPC308:0520:VC>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0525:VC>
      no no well yeah no twenty six would be pretty nice in sydney
      this time of year i think i suspect it <?>will</?> <{><[><unclear>word</unclear></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0530:NG>
      <[>yeah it could be not not dressed</[></{> the way i was

  <WSC#DPC308:0535:VC>
      mm <O>laughs</O> <{><[>why hadn't</[> you been to australia
      until your midforties

  <WSC#DPC308:0540:NG>
      <[><unclear>word</unclear></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0545:NG>
      <O>tut</O> um well opportunities had never presented <{><[>themselves</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0550:VC>
      <[>er no</[></{> there's something something fundamental about
      about the kiwi character <?>that</?> you'll see the rest of the
      world before you see australia

  <WSC#DPC308:0555:VC>
      when i when i er graduated i had an opportunity of of <,> of
      actually doing a p h d in melbourne

  <WSC#DPC308:0560:NG>
      oh <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0565:VC>
      rather than christchurch and i didn't take it because it was
      melbourne

  <WSC#DPC308:0570:VC>
      so when i went overseas i was not going to go to melbourne i was
      going to go overseas <{><[>you know and and and that</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0575:NG>
      <[>yeah yeah i think i think i suspect yeah i <.>was</.> you're</[></{>
      probably right in that

  <WSC#DPC308:0580:VC>
      yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:0585:NG>
      basic feeling

  <WSC#DPC308:0590:VC>
      i mean <.>th</.> there's i think kiwis divide into two classes
      those who who want to see sydney and those who go round the rest
      of the <laughs>world but won't see sydney</laughs> <O>laughs</O>
      <&>7:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0595:NG>
      i actually like sydney

  <WSC#DPC308:0600:NG>
      <{><[>i i've been back two or three</[> times since <O>voc</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:0605:VC>
      <[>yeah i think it's a wonderful city yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0610:VC>
      anyway

  <WSC#DPC308:0615:NG>
      yeah <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0620:VC>
      yeah so so you're gonna be over there for how long

  <WSC#DPC308:0625:NG>
      oh about five <?>or</?> five days six days

  <WSC#DPC308:0630:NG>
      then i'm coming back on the sunday cos i <,> i've got stranded
      with their <{><[>flights</[> are all full

  <WSC#DPC308:0635:VC>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0640:VC>
      yeah there's it's wonderful the the the the abundance of flights
      between wellington and sydney

  <WSC#DPC308:0645:NG>
      mm

  <WSC#DPC308:0650:VC>
      usually you you either get stranded in the city for an extra day
      or three or or you come back through auckland or christchurch

  <WSC#DPC308:0655:NG>
      yeah i could've done that rushing things on friday

  <WSC#DPC308:0660:NG>
      i just thought oh <{1><[1>may as well if i'm</[1> there anyway
      <{2><[2><?>i'm</?> a bit desperate</[2> eh yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:0665:VC>
      <[1>mm <O>sniffs</O></[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:0670:VC>
      <[2>enjoy it</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0675:VC>
      oh yeah so you got your tickets

  <WSC#DPC308:0680:NG>
      yeah got my tickets got here still managed to find a park <,>
      not too far away

  <WSC#DPC308:0685:NG>
      that was a an achievement

  <WSC#DPC308:0690:VC>
      i've found actually there's a very close park

  <WSC#DPC308:0695:NG>
      i i know a good park that's often often free because it's it's a
      bit difficult to get into

  <WSC#DPC308:0700:VC>
      we won't tell kim this <.>w</.> <{><[>will we</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0705:NG>
      <[>no i'm</[></{> not going to tell you it either <O>both laugh</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:0710:NG>
      <laughs>but i can often get it <{><[>quite</[> late</laughs>

  <WSC#DPC308:0715:VC>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{> <&>8:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0720:VC>
      <O>laughs</O> <O>sniffs</O> mm right but but i don't <.>even</.>
      i don't have a university parking sticker you see <{><[>so i</[>
      i have to <?>go round</?> <.>k</.> <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0725:NG>
      <[>oh okay</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0730:NG>
      well actually <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0735:VC>
      well you see i i i i live fifteen minutes away

  <WSC#DPC308:0740:NG>
      mm

  <WSC#DPC308:0745:VC>
      fifteen minutes walk and um i use the car for from here about
      maybe once a month

  <WSC#DPC308:0750:VC>
      <{><[>so i</[> end up paying a hundred and eighty bucks for a
      parking ticket parking right that i use once a month it's
      ridiculous

  <WSC#DPC308:0755:NG>
      <[>mm</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0760:NG>
      well what we should probably do is um sell you the <.>temp</.>
      shortterm rights to the <&>name of group</&> park

  <WSC#DPC308:0765:VC>
      are you <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0770:NG>
      as as a means of <laughs>revenue generation</laughs>

  <WSC#DPC308:0775:VC>
      how much substantially less than a hundred and eighty dollars i
      would <?>hope</?> <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0780:NG>
      oh yes yes i mean you know

  <WSC#DPC308:0785:VC>
      mm

  <WSC#DPC308:0790:NG>
      ten bucks a time or something

  <WSC#DPC308:0795:VC>
      oh i see what you mean

  <WSC#DPC308:0800:VC>
      actually i would willingly pay say um two or three dollars a day
      for the right to park here <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0805:NG>
      mm

  <WSC#DPC308:0810:VC>
      it's the thought of paying a hundred and eighty dollars for
      <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0815:NG>
      <quietly>mm</quietly> <&>9:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0820:VC>
      cos that that would actually work out a hundred and eighty
      dollars or whatever it is works out at about ten dollars a day
      which i think's a bit steep

  <WSC#DPC308:0825:NG>
      but well the alternative is that when we start selling parking
      coupons we can sell you a coupon and you can park out on the
      street

  <WSC#DPC308:0830:VC>
      i don't need it <{1><[1>i don't need a coupon to</[1> park out
      on the street cos i've got a kelburn <{2><[2>sticker you see</[2>
      i'm a kelburn <{3><[3>resident</[3>

  <WSC#DPC308:0835:NG>
      <[1><.>o</.> on on a daily basis</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:0840:NG>
      <[2>oh okay</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DPC308:0845:NG>
      <[3>oh right</[3></{3> well even better

  <WSC#DPC308:0850:VC>
      this this this entitles me to park anywhere <,> that you need a
      coupon in kelburn

  <WSC#DPC308:0855:NG>
      mm <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0860:VC>
      but not in clifton terrace

  <WSC#DPC308:0865:NG>
      no <?>oh well it's</?>

  <WSC#DPC308:0870:VC>
      because i discovered <{><[>to my horror clifton terrace</[> is
      different from kelburn

  <WSC#DPC308:0875:NG>
      <[><unclear>word</unclear></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:0880:NG>
      mm <,,><&>3</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0885:VC>
      mm

  <WSC#DPC308:0890:NG>
      <O>tut</O> <?>yes well</?> i don't know if that counts as
      kelburn does it

  <WSC#DPC308:0895:NG>
      i suppose it does should do it's west of the motorway <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0900:VC>
      it doesn't count as kelburn as far as the parking stickers are
      concerned <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0905:NG>
      no <,> <{><[><?>nutcase</?> city council isn't it</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0910:VC>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{> <O>laughs</O> yeah all right there we
      are

  <WSC#DPC308:0915:VC>
      <.>y</.> you must have used up your thousand words

  <WSC#DPC308:0920:VC>
      have you are you keeping track of the time here <&>10:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:0925:NG>
      no i'm not no how much is left on the tape <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:0930:NG>
      oh it's going round

  <WSC#DPC308:0935:VC>
      oh you'd better go on with the rest of your day then

  <WSC#DPC308:0940:NG>
      rest of <{><[>well the rest of it</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0945:VC>
      <[>sounds sounds</[></{> a dead bore so far

  <WSC#DPC308:0950:NG>
      yeah oh <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:0955:VC>
      add that to the database <{><[><unclear>word</unclear></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:0960:NG>
      <[>no no it it actually</[></{> was quite good because it meant
      that leaving a little later i was able to play a game with my
      daughter this morning before i took her to school <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:0965:NG>
      with the result that she missed the bell by a minute but it was
      worth it

  <WSC#DPC308:0970:VC>
      play what game

  <WSC#DPC308:0975:NG>
      oh just a you know one of these twenty questions types of game

  <WSC#DPC308:0980:VC>
      you play those with your daughter before school

  <WSC#DPC308:0985:NG>
      oh occasionally well it just fills in time

  <WSC#DPC308:0990:NG>
      i mean otherwise it who knows might have family arguments or
      they might get scratchy

  <WSC#DPC308:0995:VC>
      mm oh well yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:1000:VC>
      i i <,> i don't have that sort of relationship with my daughter

  <WSC#DPC308:1005:VC>
      my my my relationship with my daughter in the mornings consists
      of <.>l</.> largely of yelling and <{><[>throwing things</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1010:NG>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{> <O>laughs</O> yeah well yes yes this is
      oh we seem to have got beyond this gradually

  <WSC#DPC308:1015:VC>
      every now and again she takes me completely by <&>11:00</&>
      surprise by being organised and ready to go <,> and and and
      everything's serene and perfect <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1020:VC>
      but um that happens very rarely and takes me very much by
      surprise <{><[><?>then</?></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1025:NG>
      <[>no</[></{> we we have two extremes

  <WSC#DPC308:1030:NG>
      emily actually gets up early she's the first of our children who
      ever has

  <WSC#DPC308:1035:VC>
      aha

  <WSC#DPC308:1040:NG>
      took us four to get there

  <WSC#DPC308:1045:VC>
      <quietly><O>laughs</O></quietly>

  <WSC#DPC308:1050:NG>
      and she she is does tend to be sort of up and ready for things
      whereas mona is consistent with the rest of them and so <{1><[1>that's</[1>
      usually um a rather more vociferous relationship <{2><[2>particularly</[2>
      in the morning

  <WSC#DPC308:1055:VC>
      <[1>oh</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:1060:VC>
      <[2>mm</[2></{2>

  <WSC#DPC308:1065:VC>
      so who do you <{><[>play</[> twenty questions with

  <WSC#DPC308:1070:NG>
      <[><O>voc</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1075:NG>
      emily this morning

  <WSC#DPC308:1080:VC>
      oh <quietly>yeah</quietly> yes

  <WSC#DPC308:1085:NG>
      yeah she she's generally in sort of a bit bit more placid <.>m</.>
      mona is about a hundred and thirty octane

  <WSC#DPC308:1090:VC>
      you should have stopped when you found out how it was done

  <WSC#DPC308:1095:NG>
      <drawls>well</drawls> yeah if one could predict the future one
      might make all <laughs>sorts of <,> rearrangements</laughs>
      <&>12:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:1100:VC>
      yeah all right yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:1105:VC>
      so so so you've picked up the tickets today

  <WSC#DPC308:1110:VC>
      i know you went to the staff club i know you were at a meeting
      here this morning

  <WSC#DPC308:1115:NG>
      yes i was yes you're right i was here at a meeting this morning
      <,> <O>tut</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:1120:NG>
      <drawls>i</drawls> <,> started my day after that <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1125:NG>
      finally managed to go and get some lunch at about twenty to two
      <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1130:NG>
      even read a paper <,,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1135:NG>
      <drawls>um</drawls> <,> came back er

  <WSC#DPC308:1140:NG>
      god knows what i've done since <,,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1145:VC>
      well there you are you see

  <WSC#DPC308:1150:VC>
      you've been preparing for this

  <WSC#DPC308:1155:NG>
      yeah i probably was really mentally

  <WSC#DPC308:1160:VC>
      yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:1165:NG>
      preparing myself

  <WSC#DPC308:1170:VC>
      what do we have to do about to get the mars bars

  <WSC#DPC308:1175:NG>
      i think just sort of reach that far and pick them up

  <WSC#DPC308:1180:VC>
      can we do it now <{1><[1>or <unclear>word</unclear> do you</[1>
      think somebody's listening <{2><[2>who's going to</[2>

  <WSC#DPC308:1185:NG>
      <[1><?>yeah</?> mm</[1></{1>

  <WSC#DPC308:1190:NG>
      <[2>the the <.>s</.></[2></{2> the sound effects would be
      interesting wouldn't they

  <WSC#DPC308:1195:VC>
      yeah yeah i'm sure we must have done our lot <&>12:59</&> <&>sound
      of mars bars being unwrapped for eight seconds</&> <&>13:09</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:1200:NG>
      and how do you spell that

  <WSC#DPC308:1205:VC>
      yes

  <WSC#DPC308:1210:NG>
      right

  <WSC#DPC308:1215:VC>
      yes put that into phonetics <O>both laugh</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:1220:VC>
      translate that for linguists <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1225:VC>
      peculiarly WRAPPING sound <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1230:VC>
      right so we can we turn this off or is it is it locked

  <WSC#DPC308:1235:NG>
      <O>laughs</O> <O>voc</O> well i imagine we can turn it off

  <WSC#DPC308:1240:NG>
      <drawls>um</drawls> <,> hasn't got a keyboard though

  <WSC#DPC308:1245:VC>
      no it's a very low tech device isn't it

  <WSC#DPC308:1250:VC>
      it's got a power switch

  <WSC#DPC308:1255:NG>
      it looks a bit like our video <,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1260:NG>
      i have to get felicity to work that <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1265:VC>
      hey i actually did something get this on this this is worth on
      ANY database

  <WSC#DPC308:1270:VC>
      I I drove our video last night

  <WSC#DPC308:1275:NG>
      <O>laughs</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:1280:VC>
      i did i i looked <.>at</.> looked up where the <&>14:00</&>
      programme was on in the <.>pap</.> you know in the paper

  <WSC#DPC308:1285:NG>
      mm

  <WSC#DPC308:1290:VC>
      <drawls>and</drawls> i picked up the video thingie you know the

  <WSC#DPC308:1295:NG>
      is this the g code <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1300:VC>
      the remote one

  <WSC#DPC308:1305:VC>
      no no <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1310:NG>
      no <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1315:VC>
      no no no just <drawls>the</drawls> just an ordinary remote

  <WSC#DPC308:1320:VC>
      and i pushed the appropriate buttons and it ALL worked

  <WSC#DPC308:1325:VC>
      and i had to set the time and the date from scratch and i set it
      up and it recorded at exactly the right time

  <WSC#DPC308:1330:VC>
      and do you know what went wrong cos it you know that something
      went wrong <{><[>otherwise i wouldn't be telling you this story
      <?><.>quite</.></?></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1335:NG>
      <[><unclear>word</unclear> <O>laughs</O> you got</[></{> the
      wrong channel

  <WSC#DPC308:1340:VC>
      quite pointless if nothing

  <WSC#DPC308:1345:VC>
      no no no everything was perfect

  <WSC#DPC308:1350:NG>
      oh

  <WSC#DPC308:1355:VC>
      no it was silly um the silly <drawls>er</drawls>

  <WSC#DPC308:1360:NG>
      the programme schedule was <{><[><unclear>word</unclear></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1365:VC>
      <[>yeah the <.>p</.> programme schedule</[></{> was completely
      screwed up

  <WSC#DPC308:1370:VC>
      <{><[>the</[> the um it was it was channel two and i was
      supposed to be recording <title>the lair of the white worm</title>
      <O>laughs</O> it's a ken russell

  <WSC#DPC308:1375:NG>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1380:NG>
      oh

  <WSC#DPC308:1385:VC>
      ken russell horror story and it was supposed to start at five to
      twelve <,,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1390:VC>
      and instead the silly rugby sevens went on you know the rugby
      league sevens

  <WSC#DPC308:1395:NG>
      mm <latch> <&>15:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:1400:VC>
      went on until twelve thirty so i'd carefully set this thing up

  <WSC#DPC308:1405:VC>
      now if i'd left it it wouldn't have mattered too much catching
      half an hour of the silly rugby sevens but i <{><[>didn't</[>
      know when they finished <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1410:NG>
      <[>mm</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1415:NG>
      yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:1420:VC>
      and it was a three hour tape

  <WSC#DPC308:1425:VC>
      and i didn't know how long <title>the lair of the white worm</title>
      went on for <{><[>because ken</[> russell can make some pretty
      long movies <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1430:NG>
      <[><O>laughs</O></[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1435:NG>
      <laughs>yes</laughs> <O>laughs</O>

  <WSC#DPC308:1440:VC>
      and so <drawls>um</drawls> i had to take <?><.>undo</.> it</?>
      no that's right i couldn't undo the programming cos having
      programmed the damn thing having got all that set up i couldn't
      then undo <{><[>the</[> programming <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1445:NG>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1450:NG>
      that's right you've got to unless you just undo the whole lot
      and start again

  <WSC#DPC308:1455:VC>
      i couldn't figure out how to do it i tried that i tried i i i in
      the end i decided i have to undo the whole lot start again

  <WSC#DPC308:1460:VC>
      but i couldn't change anything

  <WSC#DPC308:1465:VC>
      so as far as i know having set it up it still turned itself off
      at two oclock and there's probably another half an hour of
      <title>the lair of the white worm</title>

  <WSC#DPC308:1470:NG>
      <?>yeah</?> <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1475:VC>
      unrecorded

  <WSC#DPC308:1480:NG>
      <.>a</.> and and the thrilling climax <&>16:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:1485:VC>
      yes <,,>

  <WSC#DPC308:1490:NG>
      <?>oh</?>

  <WSC#DPC308:1495:VC>
      but BUT <.>th</.> the whole point about this is i solved the
      technology problem i had programmed the video

  <WSC#DPC308:1500:VC>
      no i solved part of the of cos i couldn't figure out to turn it
      off

  <WSC#DPC308:1505:VC>
      i couldn't undo the programming once it had started <{><[>once
      it</[> started <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1510:NG>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1515:NG>
      no i've had that problem with our <.>o</.> <.>o</.> original
      simple one

  <WSC#DPC308:1520:VC>
      i thought it was just me

  <WSC#DPC308:1525:VC>
      maybe <{><[>maybe</[> it's the way the japanese make videos

  <WSC#DPC308:1530:NG>
      <[>yeah</[></{>

  <WSC#DPC308:1535:NG>
      no i i <?>submit</?>

  <WSC#DPC308:1540:NG>
      as far as i'm concerned the um programming video machines makes
      <?>cobol</?> look a lot better

  <WSC#DPC308:1545:VC>
      yeah that's true

  <WSC#DPC308:1550:NG>
      <&>noise</&> <noise>right</noise> well i was talking to somebody
      the other day who was complaining that they had episodes one two
      and four of some serial and the reason they didn't have three
      was because they were away and had it all set up on the right
      day

  <WSC#DPC308:1555:VC>
      mhm

  <WSC#DPC308:1560:NG>
      but because the cricket was washed out one day they brought that
      the next day's programmes forward

  <WSC#DPC308:1565:VC>
      right <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1570:NG>
      which seems a crazy way to do it and so they missed and they
      <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1575:VC>
      they brought the next day's programmes <{><[>forward?</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1580:NG>
      <[>forward</[></{> a day from the thursday to the <{><[>wednesday
      or whatever</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1585:VC>
      <[>this must have been</[></{> t v n z

  <WSC#DPC308:1590:NG>
      presumably yeah

  <WSC#DPC308:1595:VC>
      mm <&>17:00</&>

  <WSC#DPC308:1600:NG>
      which sounds <.>absolu</.> absolute lunacy

  <WSC#DPC308:1605:VC>
      <O>laughs</O> <?>oh for</?> sure right okay well we've
      definitely done enough <{><[><?>now</?></[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1610:NG>
      <[><?>no</?></[></{> no i think that's yes <latch>

  <WSC#DPC308:1615:VC>
      absolutely there must <{><[>be an off switch find an off switch</[>

  <WSC#DPC308:1620:NG>
      <[>perhaps they don't use <?><.>m</.></[></{> must be an</?> off
      switch <&>17:12</&>
</I>
