  <WSC#MUC014:0005:BK>
      although as we look further south because we're south of
      lancaster park er it looks like er things could lighten up a
      little bit

  <WSC#MUC014:0010:BK>
      but it's wet weather tyres for the cars that are lining up

  <WSC#MUC014:0015:BK>
      the eleven cars that are on the grid for the lady wigram trophy
      race

  <WSC#MUC014:0020:BK>
      a historic trophy

  <WSC#MUC014:0025:BK>
      a trophy with names on it that's like a who's who of world motor
      racing

  <WSC#MUC014:0030:BK>
      jack brabham

  <WSC#MUC014:0035:BK>
      jacky stewart

  <WSC#MUC014:0040:BK>
      jimmy clark

  <WSC#MUC014:0045:BK>
      bruce mclaren

  <WSC#MUC014:0050:BK>
      stirling moss

  <WSC#MUC014:0055:BK>
      <?>jochen rin</?>

  <WSC#MUC014:0060:BK>
      <?>kecky rothburg</?>

  <WSC#MUC014:0065:BK>
      roberta marino

  <WSC#MUC014:0070:BK>
      it's a fantastic trophy and it really is sought after and and
      recognised world wide

  <WSC#MUC014:0075:BK>
      so all the cars have the flicks on

  <WSC#MUC014:0080:BK>
      oh rather the er wet weather tyres on

  <WSC#MUC014:0085:BK>
      with flicks they'd be in trouble

  <WSC#MUC014:0090:BK>
      wet weather tyres on the thirty second warning board has gone up

  <WSC#MUC014:0095:BK>
      and the other sensation is that kenny smith had the fastest <.>qualifi</.>
      or fastest lap time and was actually quicker than craig baird
      was in practice

  <WSC#MUC014:0100:BK>
      kenny in the race the earlier race today

  <WSC#MUC014:0105:BK>
      it means he <&>8:00</&> goes on to pole position

  <WSC#MUC014:0110:BK>
      and ken smith will start in pole position the cars are heading
      away now in their final warm up lap all on the wet weather tyres
      with a little red light showing

  <WSC#MUC014:0115:BK>
      so the drivers following in those big fishtails

  <WSC#MUC014:0120:BK>
      <?>those</?> curve the water to make them look like hydroplaning
      speed boats around the circuit as they disappear

  <WSC#MUC014:0125:BK>
      it's going to look like a er sort of a more like a power boat
      race than it will a er a motor race

  <WSC#MUC014:0130:BK>
      and it's similar to a race i called a few years ago at pukekohe
      a new zealand grand prix event and that was in torrential rain

  <WSC#MUC014:0135:BK>
      we've also had thunder and lightning here as well so the spray
      is everywhere around the track

  <WSC#MUC014:0140:BK>
      so kenny smith's on pole position

  <WSC#MUC014:0145:BK>
      his fast time one ten twenty eight compared to craig baird's one
      ten eighty five in practice

  <WSC#MUC014:0150:BK>
      so that's quite sensational stuff

  <WSC#MUC014:0155:BK>
      it's also a quite an endurance race as well because it's TWENTY
      SIX laps

  <WSC#MUC014:0160:BK>
      they disappear <drawls>down</drawls> the back

  <WSC#MUC014:0165:BK>
      the end of the runway at the wigram airport base

  <WSC#MUC014:0170:BK>
      they hook a left into the corner the hairpin that's created a
      lot of havoc today <O>swallows</O>

  <WSC#MUC014:0175:BK>
      there's been a lot of cars particularly in the <.>form</.>
      <&>9:00</&> formula ford class off on that corner

  <WSC#MUC014:0180:BK>
      and it's down another long straight away and round a couple of
      kinks past the airport hangars and down to a loop a lefthand
      loop

  <WSC#MUC014:0185:BK>
      and under blackening skies the cars will come past there

  <WSC#MUC014:0190:BK>
      when they er did their warm up laps a few minutes ago craig
      baird's car came up and they actually jacked it up

  <WSC#MUC014:0195:BK>
      took off the engine cover and also took off the front cover as
      well and they were tinkering away in there

  <WSC#MUC014:0200:BK>
      i don't know whether he's got a problem or not but it's not
      normal for er the teams to do that unless there is some kind of
      problem

  <WSC#MUC014:0205:BK>
      so <.>i</.> it could be er something for craig baird

  <WSC#MUC014:0210:BK>
      we see that paul radisich is back there

  <WSC#MUC014:0215:BK>
      they seem to have solved the problem

  <WSC#MUC014:0220:BK>
      he coasted across the line in the first heat the first er race
      earlier today won by craig baird with kenny smith second and
      julian westwood of great britain finishing in third place

  <WSC#MUC014:0225:BK>
      so the cars are through the loop under VERY black skies out
      towards the er the west and the southern alps <,>

  <WSC#MUC014:0230:BK>
      but out they come now

  <WSC#MUC014:0235:BK>
      kenny smith in his swift the <?>ford</?> powered swift on pole
      position

  <WSC#MUC014:0240:BK>
      and that's the first time we haven't seen craig baird on pole
      <&>10:00</&> position in this series

  <WSC#MUC014:0245:BK>
      and what a wonderful trophy what a wonderful race if kenny smith
      at the age of fifty one could win it and show the young guns

  <WSC#MUC014:0250:BK>
      craig baird's looking at his team and signalling there

  <WSC#MUC014:0255:BK>
      he doesn't seem to be a very happy chappie

  <WSC#MUC014:0260:BK>
      creeping up just a little bit he's in his right place now

  <WSC#MUC014:0265:BK>
      paul radisich is up to third fastest

  <WSC#MUC014:0270:BK>
      he got a very quick time

  <WSC#MUC014:0275:BK>
      and back on row four will be julian westwood at a wet lady
      wigram trophy race

  <WSC#MUC014:0280:BK>
      this historic trophy is about to be decided over twenty six laps
      of the wigram airforce base

  <WSC#MUC014:0285:BK>
      kenny smith moves forward slowly

  <WSC#MUC014:0290:BK>
      the light is red

  <WSC#MUC014:0295:BK>
      we just about have a start and they race

  <WSC#MUC014:0300:BK>
      kenny smith away

  <WSC#MUC014:0305:BK>
      craig baird gets a very very good start but has to slot in
      behind <,> kenny smith through the spray

  <WSC#MUC014:0310:BK>
      oh what terrible <.>ho</.> terrific horrific driving conditions
      and it looks like craig baird has actually gone on the inside of
      kenny smith and craig baird

  <WSC#MUC014:0315:BK>
      what a great and <.>dro</.> brave passing manoeuvre

  <WSC#MUC014:0320:BK>
      kenny smith down the back straight starts to get alongside him

  <WSC#MUC014:0325:BK>
      he's right there underneath him

  <WSC#MUC014:0330:BK>
      they are racing <&>11:00</&> wheel for wheel as they go down the
      runway

  <WSC#MUC014:0335:BK>
      down the back straight of wigram but craig baird will lead them
      into the first corner

  <WSC#MUC014:0340:BK>
      it's a very very tight corner where they hook back basically
      into first gear

  <WSC#MUC014:0345:BK>
      well that was a brave manoeuvre by craig baird with spray
      absolutely everywhere

  <WSC#MUC014:0350:BK>
      he got a good start

  <WSC#MUC014:0355:BK>
      he tucked in behind kenny smith and kenny smith moved over a bit
      to get a good line through the lefthand corner and craig baird
      just took him

  <WSC#MUC014:0360:BK>
      is craig baird going to make it six out of six

  <WSC#MUC014:0365:BK>
      it's reasonably steady rain here now at wigram as the cars come
      down towards the airforce building past the hangars

  <WSC#MUC014:0370:BK>
      craig baird leads kenny smith

  <WSC#MUC014:0375:BK>
      and the rest of the field after only one lap is starting to just
      spread out around this big airfield circuit

  <WSC#MUC014:0380:BK>
      disappearing past the control tower building now

  <WSC#MUC014:0385:BK>
      we'll catch them as they come round for the first time the lady
      wigram trophy race and we have a race

  <WSC#MUC014:0390:BK>
      ken smith is right behind craig baird

  <WSC#MUC014:0395:BK>
      what terrible conditions to be in <.>t</.> to put up with all
      that spray

  <WSC#MUC014:0400:BK>
      craig baird's a happy man

  <WSC#MUC014:0405:BK>
      he's out in front

  <WSC#MUC014:0410:BK>
      he doesn't have to put up with spray from <&>12:00</&> cars
      behind

  <WSC#MUC014:0415:BK>
      the cars whip through there

  <WSC#MUC014:0420:BK>
      craig baird in first place

  <WSC#MUC014:0425:BK>
      kenny smith is next

  <WSC#MUC014:0430:BK>
      paul radisich is next

  <WSC#MUC014:0435:BK>
      then julian westwood back in fourth place

  <WSC#MUC014:0440:BK>
      we look for the next one and that is greg murphy with howie <?>nuttall</?>
      back behind greg murphy

  <WSC#MUC014:0445:BK>
      the spray metres in the air down the back straight as they go
      left <O>swallows</O> and on to this long long airforce runway

  <WSC#MUC014:0450:BK>
      and craig baird look at the power of the renard

  <WSC#MUC014:0455:BK>
      it just starts to pull away over kenny smith and craig er

  <WSC#MUC014:0460:BK>
      paul radisich is starting to make a move on kenny smith now

  <WSC#MUC014:0465:BK>
      but it's a long race it's twenty six laps and when they get to
      the er dying stages of that race

  <WSC#MUC014:0470:BK>
      then the tyres will start to wear because they are on the wet
      tyres so they wear a heck of a lot quicker than those flicks on
      a wet track

  <WSC#MUC014:0475:BK>
      looks like paul radisich might even be up to er <,> kenny smith
      and making that passing manoeuvre

  <WSC#MUC014:0480:BK>
      but craig baird is now going away from the rest of them and it
      looks like paul radisich might actually be up to second place

  <WSC#MUC014:0485:BK>
      paul radisich is up to second place

  <WSC#MUC014:0490:BK>
      kenny smith has dropped back to <&>13:00</&> third place with
      julian westwood actually now past kenny smith as well

  <WSC#MUC014:0495:BK>
      so westwood is up to er third place

  <WSC#MUC014:0500:BK>
      kenny smith could have a problem

  <WSC#MUC014:0505:BK>
      we don't know what what the problem is but he's certainly
      dropped right off the pace on that first lap

  <WSC#MUC014:0510:BK>
      they come around <&>13:05</&> <&>section by studio announcer not
      transcribed</&> <&>13:25</&>

  <WSC#MUC014:0515:BK>
      well kenny smith has drifted back to fourth place after having
      pole position and getting away first

  <WSC#MUC014:0520:BK>
      but a very brave passing manoeuvre by craig baird at the first
      corner in heaps and heaps of spray and rain saw him take the
      lead

  <WSC#MUC014:0525:BK>
      and at one stage he was four seconds ahead of julian westwood
      who moved up through the field past paul radisich and started to
      climb on craig baird and now the gap is just over two seconds
      between craig baird and julian westwood

  <WSC#MUC014:0530:BK>
      the british formula three thousand driver in second place with
      paul radisich putting pushing westwood quite hard and ken smith
      back in <&>14:00</&> fourth place

  <WSC#MUC014:0535:BK>
      so at the halfway stage still a long way to go

  <WSC#MUC014:0540:BK>
      there's still light rain falling here

  <WSC#MUC014:0545:BK>
      the track is quite er wet and if you look over towards the west
      where the front's going to it's raining very very heavily there
      so different parts of the circuit

  <WSC#MUC014:0550:BK>
      this very big airfield circuit

  <WSC#MUC014:0555:BK>
      it's er wetter than others but still reasonably steady rain
      falling

  <WSC#MUC014:0560:BK>
      and craig baird a gap of two seconds just over two seconds ahead
      of julian westwood as they come around to complete another lap
      and i'll just put the stopwatch on them this time to see what
      the gap is and whether julian westwood has closed up and by the
      looks of it he has as they go through hook into the lefthand
      loop area

  <WSC#MUC014:0565:BK>
      craig baird comes through

  <WSC#MUC014:0570:BK>
      at the moment he's out to make it six wins from six starts and
      that's quite phenomenal

  <WSC#MUC014:0575:BK>
      westwood across now

  <WSC#MUC014:0580:BK>
      he's closed the <?>lot</?> is one point seven five seconds

  <WSC#MUC014:0585:BK>
      so julian westwood is closing on craig baird at the halfway
      stage of the lady wigram trophy race <&>14:47</&> <&>section by
      studio announcer not transcribed</&> <&>15:03</&>

  <WSC#MUC014:0590:BK>
      still looking good but only by point six of a second

  <WSC#MUC014:0595:BK>
      we have a real motor race on our hands

  <WSC#MUC014:0600:BK>
      it's the closest that craig baird's had er pressure put on him
      all round so far

  <WSC#MUC014:0605:BK>
      this is the third round of the peter jackson series as they er
      <?>streak</?> down the short straight away towards the hangars
      and past the hangars

  <WSC#MUC014:0610:BK>
      craig baird is holding on to first place by point six of a
      second and sitting in second place is the british formula three
      thousand driver julian westwood who's driven a magnificent race
      to fight his way up past a couple of drivers and then get to
      within passing distance

  <WSC#MUC014:0615:BK>
      and a couple of times he almost did it but didn't quite have the
      legs and now he's this time round he'll have just two laps to
      try and get past craig baird

  <WSC#MUC014:0620:BK>
      and there's slower traffic too for craig baird as they er catch
      up with greg murphy

  <WSC#MUC014:0625:BK>
      and westwood is RIGHT there

  <WSC#MUC014:0630:BK>
      RIGHT on the tail of craig baird and craig baird knows that the
      gap is just point two of a second

  <WSC#MUC014:0635:BK>
      they're <&>16:00</&> racing on a dry circuit now the rain has
      stopped and julian westwood is pushing craig baird very very
      hard

  <WSC#MUC014:0640:BK>
      there's also a battle for third place because kenny smith is
      right behind paul radisich

  <WSC#MUC014:0645:BK>
      paul radisich holding on to third and kenny smith is pushing him
      REAL hard now

  <WSC#MUC014:0650:BK>
      paul radisich having the best drive so far as we look at the
      race leader craig baird going around down the long runway down
      the back straight of wigram

  <WSC#MUC014:0655:BK>
      more slow traffic

  <WSC#MUC014:0660:BK>
      westwood and baird both get past and

  <WSC#MUC014:0665:BK>
      julian westwood is RIGHT there

  <WSC#MUC014:0670:BK>
      two cars probably half a car length the distance between the two
      cars and there's really this time round only one more lap

  <WSC#MUC014:0675:BK>
      once they come past us this time there'll be the final lap of
      the lady wigram trophy and at this stage craig baird is on
      course to make it six wins from six starts and that's phenomenal

  <WSC#MUC014:0680:BK>
      it's quite a record and it really means he heads off to the new
      zealand grand prix next weekend at manfield in a strong points
      position for the <.>pois</.> the peter jackson championship
      overall <&>17:00</&> for formula atlantic

  <WSC#MUC014:0685:BK>
      it looks like kenny smith may just have got past paul radisich
      too we'll confirm that as they sweep past the hangars

  <WSC#MUC014:0690:BK>
      here they come

  <WSC#MUC014:0695:BK>
      craig baird up to the loop at the very tight lefthander

  <WSC#MUC014:0700:BK>
      they slow right down

  <WSC#MUC014:0705:BK>
      baird gets er rather westwood gets RIGHT behind him

  <WSC#MUC014:0710:BK>
      kenny smith has passed paul radisich

  <WSC#MUC014:0715:BK>
      there goes craig baird

  <WSC#MUC014:0720:BK>
      he's on the home run

  <WSC#MUC014:0725:BK>
      this is where julian westwood has got to make the move

  <WSC#MUC014:0730:BK>
      it's back to point six of a second

  <WSC#MUC014:0735:BK>
      it's a real motor race for the lady wigram trophy this year

  <WSC#MUC014:0740:BK>
      kenny smith back up to third paul radisich is in fourth place

  <WSC#MUC014:0745:BK>
      they're the leaders although the third and fourth place getters
      are about five seconds behind the leaders as we watch our race
      leader craig baird in the renard the british designed race car
      out to make it six wins from six starts

  <WSC#MUC014:0750:BK>
      a phenomenal start to this lady wigram trophy race in awful
      conditions and he

  <WSC#MUC014:0755:BK>
      well took the bit <.>t</.> between his mouth and just went for
      it and got a magnificent start and passed kenny smith in
      apPALLing conditions with spray being shot up by all the wheels
      of the cars

  <WSC#MUC014:0760:BK>
      and he figured that he had to get in <&>18:00</&> front there
      and then otherwise he'd be fighting to get past

  <WSC#MUC014:0765:BK>
      they come down half the circuit left to go for craig baird as
      the slower back marker

  <WSC#MUC014:0770:BK>
      it looks like julian westwood dropped off just a little bit now

  <WSC#MUC014:0775:BK>
      there's a lefthand sweeper that they go through and then it's
      down in front of the control tower at the airforce base

  <WSC#MUC014:0780:BK>
      around in front of the hangars

  <WSC#MUC014:0785:BK>
      we'll just wait for the white car of craig baird to come in
      front of the hangars

  <WSC#MUC014:0790:BK>
      comes around the control tower now and julian westwood is RIGHT
      there with him

  <WSC#MUC014:0795:BK>
      he's <laughs>right</laughs> behind him

  <WSC#MUC014:0800:BK>
      the spray's being shot up a little bit

  <WSC#MUC014:0805:BK>
      he's looking for an inside line if he's going to make a move

  <WSC#MUC014:0810:BK>
      he's PUSHING him almost

  <WSC#MUC014:0815:BK>
      he's right there but craig baird's going to do it

  <WSC#MUC014:0820:BK>
      there's absolutely nothing in it just probably one two car
      lengths

  <WSC#MUC014:0825:BK>
      craig baird wins the lady wigram trophy by point six of a second
      from julian westwood

  <WSC#MUC014:0830:BK>
      what a motor race

  <WSC#MUC014:0835:BK>
      kenny smith finishes in third place and across in fourth place
      paul radisich

  <WSC#MUC014:0840:BK>
      well a MARVELLOUS race and a very brave drive by craig baird

  <WSC#MUC014:0845:BK>
      a great start

  <WSC#MUC014:0850:BK>
      a brave move at the <.>far</.> at the start of the race
      <&>19:00</&>

  <WSC#MUC014:0855:BK>
      he went in front and at one stage he was way up by three or four
      seconds

  <WSC#MUC014:0860:BK>
      and then westwood started to pull back lap after lap after lap
      and er came back at him in the last ten laps or so and just
      stayed within point six of a second

  <WSC#MUC014:0865:BK>
      and those last few laps he was just a car length or so behind
      but he couldn't quite do it

  <WSC#MUC014:0870:BK>
      but a very brave drive from the british driver julian westwood
      and craig baird maybe we'll have to watch him

  <WSC#MUC014:0875:BK>
      he gets better and better as the series moves north

  <WSC#MUC014:0880:BK>
      i think he'll have to keep his eye out for him the new zealand
      grand prix meeting at manfield next weekend

  <WSC#MUC014:0885:BK>
      kenny smith home in fourth place and paul radisich finishing
      behind kenny smith for fourth place

  <WSC#MUC014:0890:BK>
      kenny smith in third place paul radisich fourth <,,><&>5</&>

  <WSC#MUC014:0895:BK>
      rest of the markers coming back around the track now

  <WSC#MUC014:0900:BK>
      the great race during er that one too <O>swallows</O> between er
      greg murphy and er chris maxwell

  <WSC#MUC014:0905:BK>
      and they swapped places many many times and i think greg murphy
      probably came home next <&>20:00</&> in fifth place

  <WSC#MUC014:0910:BK>
      we'll have to wait for a confirmation of that i guess all eyes
      are really are on the er on the battle for first place

  <WSC#MUC014:0915:BK>
      but er the name of craig baird now joins the rest of those
      FAMOUS names on the lady wigram trophy

  <WSC#MUC014:0920:BK>
      names like jack brabham

  <WSC#MUC014:0925:BK>
      jacky stewart

  <WSC#MUC014:0930:BK>
      jimmy clark

  <WSC#MUC014:0935:BK>
      bruce mclaren

  <WSC#MUC014:0940:BK>
      stirling moss

  <WSC#MUC014:0945:BK>
      <?>jochen rin</?>

  <WSC#MUC014:0950:BK>
      and now the name of craig baird gets put on that trophy as well

  <WSC#MUC014:0955:BK>
      so craig baird winning the er lady wigram trophy race

  <WSC#MUC014:0960:BK>
      today raced at wigram with julian westwood JUST behind him in
      second place

  <WSC#MUC014:0965:BK>
      ken smith home in third and paul radisich finishing fourth
      <&>20:33</&>
