<&>Wellington Corpus of Spoken New Zealand English Version One <&>Copyright 1998 School of Linguistics & Applied Language Studies <&>Victoria University of Wellington <&>0:08 er steve just picked up the tickets today so i'm not sure <{1><[1>what the time is he's just been in <,> the travel agent just gave me a ring to say they've got them but they haven't got the tickets for the accommodation to adelaide um but we'll still get them couriered or <{2><[2>something <[1>all right <[2>mhm what travel agent's that tut oh it's up molesworth street aha um tut when are you going to the phantom <,,> caught me with my mouth full <{><[>laughs <[>laughs <,,> er i think that's a saturday night <.>so tut trace got the <{><[>tickets for that <[>so not this saturday just coming up <{><[>one <.>aft <[>yeah the <.>first yeah the first <{><[>first day <[>this first day the second day you're there like yeah so you fly <,> is that from sydney no melbourne melbourne <{><[>and <.>then <[>it's not in sydney <&>1:00 and then you go to um when do you go to adelaide um <,,> tut i think it's the friday <,,><&>3 next week friday <,,> um we're <.>down we're going to get a rental car mhm and drive up <{><[>because the other girl comes back to new zealand <[>and then you <.>can are you going over with someone else yeah tut a friend of ours is going with us aha and she's only got the one week she comes back <,> i think it's friday she's mhm thursday or friday she comes back to auckland she's going to see les <&>pronounced as mes mis on saturday i think or friday night oh right mm it's amazing she got the tickets receipt she must have booked ages ahead oh yeah i mean we've had <.>them <,> we booked um well originally to go in july this year last year <.>th yeah we said oh what about a year from <&>2:00 now yeah and she went to um book to the phantom tickets <{1><[1>sort of and of course you had to um tentatively book tut air fares to get the tickets <{2><[2>so you just made up that we're going for a week and tut to get the um <,> cos you don't have to pay until two weeks before so you pick fares so then you book the fact that you're going to have phantom tickets so that they sort put a cross on those seats <{3><[3>as such but you obviously don't pick up all your tickets and vouchers and everything before you go <&>knocks something on surface until just before you go <[1>god <[2>yeah <[3>aha and when you come back? tut um we come back on tut see that's the thing i mean we've only just got the tickets they aren't even actually sure of the dates cos i was waiting for everything to come through <{><[>tut steve says there's an itinerary <.>so er not <[>right right entirely sure but <{><[>roughly <[>we come back <,> i think it's the <&>3:00 first <,> tut yeah the first is the night we come back the night of the first of august oh cos yeah we're back on the third tut on the saturday yeah tut so it's thursday night we're flying to auckland it's about eleven oclock at night or half past ten or something like that tut and um aunt ro's gonna pick us up at the airport so oh right so you fly out of wellington back into auckland yeah and then <{1><[1>are you going to get <.>on stay with her <{2><[2>for a night <[1>word <[2>yeah well i'll stay with her a couple of days i didn't know she was coming down so i sort of thought well we'll stay up there for a couple of days yeah um you know sort of get to see each cos otherwise we would never <&>knocks <{><[>see each other and of course she's down for mum's birthday <[>yeah tell her when you see her that i was really sorry about that um mm that red traffic light thing <{><[>laughs <[>oh what have you done tut oh cos see she <{1><[1>had <.>a she got it sent to her she got a real shock right and she couldn't work out when she was over there and then she worked out it was US and um the thing <&>4:00 was you know how june has thirty days well it was on the <{2><[2>thirtieth and we knew we went <{3><[3>to the um les mis on the monday which was the first we thought <,> oh it can't be <.>the us because the thirty first would have been the sunday and auntie <{4><[4>ro had the skoda then we're thinking it can't have been us it can't have been then we realised oh <{5><[5>no <[1>word <[2>yes <[3>oh <[4>oh <[5>there was no thirty first the sunday was the thirtieth <{1><[1>and <.>it it was when we were voc we were hooning along <.>the you know how there's the WESTERN motorway that goes along blockhouse bay remuera and then there's the southern motorway which goes like you know out to manakau and that we were wanting to go to one tree hill greenlane which is the <{2><[2>southern motorway and at the city the the motorways go like that and we got on the RIGHT one which went west and WE'RE HOONING along <{3><[3>there eh <.>and wendy's saying you're on the wrong one we're <.>on and we're saying shut up wendy <{4><[4>shut up wendy and we got out in this <.>s <.>we'd we <.>just half way along we thought oh god we are on the wrong one <{5><[5>so we took this um off ramp then we got lost in the suburb <.>a and you know cos you've gotta get <&>5:00 back onto the motorway you've gotta drive round and that so um laughs it took us <.>ages <[1>laughs <[2>oh yeah yeah <[3>oh no yeah that's ponsonby and word mm <[4>laughs <[5>mm that's <.>not <.>is oh did you get up there you did make it up there <.>to up to one tree hill oh yeah yeah finally and so well we probably think it was when we were lost and we were making a last minute decision at some traffic light and we probably went <{><[>through it <[>back home <.>back getting back out of that suburb onto the motorway and then we got back to the city and then on the SOUTHERN MOTORWAY and we got up one tree hill laughs mm but um yeah auntie rhona told me to write that letter saying that we were lost and it was due to insufficient sign posting and not due to my <,> <{1><[1>UNLAWFUL DRIVING that we received it so we wrote this grovelly letter and we said that it would be a strain on our student budget and as visitors to the FAIR CITY of auckland it has ruined a most SUCCESSFUL weekend or something some <{2><[2><.>bus bus mm <[1>laughs <[2>is this the m o t or whatever it's called yeah so she said oh just give it a go i mean if you get away with it <{><[>you do if you don't well <.>you you know you've tried <[>mm hope someone at the mayor's office is <{1><[1>happy about the lovely <.>city fair city of auckland bit <{2><[2>and about the <,> traffic word <[1>laughs <[2>laughs yeah she said use your journalistic skills laughs <{><[>mm <[>so um i did that and sent it away but probably you have to pay the thing but <{><[>all you just have to do is within fourteen days identifying because otherwise you get a thousand dollar <.>f fine <[>mm oh <{><[>really <[>identify the driver and see <{><[>the thing <.>is <[>an <.>n <.>n <.>n <.>but and then they send you the bill as <{><[>well <[>yeah see auntie rhona was worried that i was still on <.>those restricted and all that rubbish to get a licence because if you get a ticket when you're <{1><[1>on that you got to go right back to the <{2><[2>beginning again so she was <{3><[3>gonna say it was HER but then i said <{4><[4>nah no don't worry laughs no don't worry um <,> um <{5><[5>because you know <,> i'm i'm not on that my licence you know i'm on the full stuff now so it <{6><[6>doesn't matter <[1>oh yes <[2>yeah <[3>yeah <[4>ah <[5>laughs <[6>yeah yeah so we'll see what comes back from that laughs that was so funny what i told you about mum eh she said yes you two sharing if you go in there <{><[>laughs <[>were you only crook for one day um on friday about afternoon i felt really dizzy so i lay down when i woke up i felt awful you know because i was sick <&>7:00 until about one oclock that night and i just couldn't hold <{><[>anything down <[>oh so it was the evening sort of tut yeah from about seven oclock right through till one oclock <,> <{><[>it was <.>just <[>mm well yeah no fun but i mean it was only tut <{><[>word <[>yeah it's just you know how when you've <.>just for that <{1><[1>LONG you've just got nothing you and your stomach's really sore down here <,> because you've just ripped it all up so i was stuffed <{2><[2>saturday did nothing saturday apart from lay on the couch <[1>mm <[2>laughs you were worn <.>out <.>shoes do you wear <.>you yeah did <.>you do you wear your <,> inner <{><[>sole <[>yeah yeah i wear them all the time but just she said it's okay if i wear them once every second day like and wear sports shoes <,> <{><[>one day word <[>voc what is it gonna <.>make it's <.>not you're never gonna be better of it though are you <,> <{><[>no <[>better of the way i walk <{1><[1>no it's just that <{2><[2>you know <[1>yeah <[2>word right cure or <{><[>whatever <[>it's <.>just you know how i had those shin splints it's just that i don't get those <,,> oh right because it doesn't make it <.>worse doesn't <{><[>aggravate it <[>because <.>the reason why i got shin <&>8:00 splints is because the way i walk so <.>that if when i do sport i have those in and walk <{><[>or word <[>is that like pete muir's got yeah did you hear them say something <{><[>about that yeah <[>he's <.>got major heel ones mine are sort <.>of sort of over all the foot his are just sort of just going to be heel <{><[>word <[>you've gotta put it over <.>y bits on the <.>heel yeah the bits on the heel but that's because of the way i <.>work walk over all i need to go word now <,,> <{><[>er mm <[><&>swallows and puts cup down so um because that was so funny and then mum rang up the next morning and said how are you and then she rang up that night she RANG? yeah <{><[>cos i <.>rang <[>when did you ring her i rang her friday night because those guys were supposed to be home at seven it was like eight thirty i'd been sick about five times <,> <{1><[1>and i just didn't know what to do <.>it because every time i DRUNK that just made me SICK but i had to because i had such a sore <{2><[2>throat and i just didn't know whether i should keep drinking or what so i just rang up mum because i'd rang up wendy at <{3><[3>work to <.>g get me something to um suck on and <.>she was sweeping the floor or something and couldn't take the phone so i rang up mum and just <.>said she said well you get sandra round laughs <[1>laughs <[2>yeah <[3>mm what a load of <{><[>baloney <&>9:00 <[>sandra can look <.>after and i said look don't be silly she'll <{><[>be going out with mike oh he can come round too laughs <[>she doesn't know anything about things like that what a MOTHER and <{1><[1>anyway they arrived home in about an hour so i was just wasted on the couch but it was a real bummer because saturday night there was this really groovy party at charlotte and nick's and i couldn't go because there was <.>no i was just like <,> pretty wasted all <{2><[2>weekend and <.>apparently and carrie got a boyfriend at it <[1>laughs <[2>ah mm jerry he's around all the time now <{><[>word <[>oh boyfriend at the party yeah <{><[>he's really nice he was a third year accounting student <[>oh <&>9:22
